The 4th Battalion, 8th Cavalry, although under a cavalry regimental lineage, was an M1A1 tank battalion organic to 2d Brigade, 3d Armored Division. The battalion deployed from its home station at Gelnhausen, Germany. The main body of the battalion arrived in Saudi Arabia on or about 27 December 1990, and remained in theater until on or about 18 May 1991. Upon returning to Germany, the battalion inactivated.
