I get many questions about it and the unit. I am very proud to have served with and been a member of the 3rd Armored Division. Having served in Desert Shield/Storm, OIF, and New Dawn, there’s been changes in Soldiers and how the military has evolved due to the diverse population. Being a part of 3AD history, I am more than happy to share with my students in the AMEDD today what we were in comparison to what we are today due to the shaping of military history.

Although I was in 2/33 Armor, this affected the whole post. There was a soldier, who’s name I cannot remember, PFC in 2/36 Infantry. He was on a M113 and went to start the heater, as I recall the heater exploded. He was trapped inside and recieved 3rd degree burns over a large part of his body. Also as I recall, he was in the hospital in Frankfurt, too fragile to move so General Ulmer (I believe) and Colonel Sullivan had his family flown from the states to be with him. The entire post supported him and his family and prayed for him. Collections were taken up for the family. Unfortunately not long after the accident the soldier died.
