Looking for anyone with information about Hall Overton, who served in WWII and probably worked as a radio technician at some point. He was a great musician and may have been involved in a jazz band at the time as he claimed he learned to play bebop in the Army. Many thanks.

I served as the PLL clerk for the unit also in the ricon team under Cpt Carraway and Lt John J O'Brien ,Lt Philip Brandli, Lt Forest, Sgt Goforth as Motor Pool Sgt also Sgt T. Thomas and Sgt Lee as Plattoon Sgt. I have to say it was a great working with this group of gentleman. I was only 17 yrs old when I arrived from Puerto Rico and the change of weather was a whitch with a (B). Going out that back gate running at 5 or 6 am on snowy grounds in a t-shirt and gloves was not my idea of be all you can be. Whatching the shepard and his sheeps standing by the gun and rod club while we ran out into nowhere and back were memories I will never forget , going around the base thru the motorpool and making a quick stop at the snack bar for a Kingburger and a drink served by Frauline whatever were there names. Playing a tune on the Juke Box with the same old songs which everyone knew even the spanish songs.Watching the little groups sitting in there favorite corners in he snack bar. Buying suites at the Taylor across the street from the front gate or having a beer or jager snitzel and pomp fritzs at the guest house across from the front gate. Who can forget the wonderful reception station as the Castle in Butzbach where I caught pheumonia the first night I arrived from Puerto Rico and kept it to my self with the fear of being kicked out. If only I would of known was was waiting ( The Rock) thats exactly what it was I probaly would of coughed a little louder .The mind of a teenager o'well. I have to say I served with a lot of great guys Dino , Jerry(Slim) McClure my buddy from South Carolina, Krueger from Montana , Shultz , Marks ,Alvin Aponte ,Ayala ,Castro and not Fidel, Sanabria , Cuban Juan Martinez, my troubled friend Berrios from one time The Chicago Latin Kings yes I know what that was I did try to help you buddy and teach you but you were a little hard headed or maybe just young, Cintron from NY, Alexandro Valenzuela ,Juan Matas my fellow Mexicans ,Sgt Terry Thomas , Sgt Lee ,Thomas from Camuy PR Wilson HQ Platoon and other buddies from other companies Valdivieso and Quinones from B Co Sgt Paz from B Co ,From Csc, Sanchez , Negron alias (El Nene) most likely still living in Butbach , Abadia the boxer my roommate in Niederkleen. Also Negron the only redheaded Puertorican in the world ,and everyone else i forgot to include, I have to say I do miss a lot of those days and friends. If anyone has any Pictures they can foward I would really appreciate it since mine went with my first marriage or should I say divorce.Well Thats all for now God Bless all of you ex-members of the 3rd Armored Div and those ex Rock members and your familys. Alpha Rangers all the way!!! Time to plan a trip to Graf or Hoensfel or perhaps good old Wildflicken or whatever they were called . It would be great to hear from anyone ouy there!!

The newsletter is being mailed to those of you who have requested a hard copy of it. For those of you who do not receive the newsletter via mail, you may download your copy from the members only section. I have not tried to do a mass e-mail with them because most peoples anti spam will reject the e-mail. I have an idea of how to do it down the road so I can send them out. If you do not receive your copy of the newsletter by July 5th, that probubly means you are not on the snail mail list. Please contact me if you wish to be added. Remember to get your ballot in the mail right away to vote in the election. Ballot's not received by the Association Secretary prior to his leaving for the reunion will not be counted. I hope some of you can still book to attend the reunion this year. We are having a joint reunion with the WWII 3AD Association. There are not a lot of them left alive. I have gone to two of their reunions and I can tell you, it is a great experience to meet them and get to know them. I believe I read that 1,650 WWII veterans are dying each day. Don't think you can wait a few more years to meet them, there won't be many of them left. Get on board and join us in Columbus.

my email has changed mmcgee@nuvox.com I had some good times in G-Town riding my yellow Honda Monkey around the countryside. I now have a BMW. Sure wish I had it then. Where are all you guys from C Battery. I have talked to John "Buck" Nierman and Johnny "Skinnyman" Cannon. I went back to G-Town in '95. Parts of it had changed but some had not and I am sure never will. I walked up to the back gate and it brought memories of climbing over it late at night.

I am trying to find information about my father whom served under General Patton. I have his service number (39469276), rank (MSGT), and I was told he was with the 3rd armored. How can I find out any inforamtion regarding his service? He passed away in 1973 and only briefly talked about the war.

Please help.

Thank you

General Patton was with the 2nd Armored Division, and the 3rd Army. I would suggest you check with the 2nd Armored Division Association for more information if he served under General Patton

One of the "commo dogs" under SFC Jorge (from Cartagena), Gamma Goat driver, Wire Dog, Guard Duty stander. Like most of you, my memories of the Rock involve Graf and Hohenfels as well. I swear, I spent about 30 months in Germany and went to the field 14 times for 3 weeks or so each time… and would you believe when I got out I went USAR for 6 years, including activation for 1 day during Desert Storm. Snuggs, AlDog, and other friends, drop me a line.

Hey Guys & Girls, Was at Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach, Germany back in the ol days. Remember when we got about 4 marks for our $1.00, spent alot of it at Bahnhof Strasse in Frankfurt. Had a custom patch designed and made, after I got permission from the Town of Butzbach just to cover mu butt. Paid little over $2,100 to have 36 of them made. They are 12" X 17" and made to be sewn on a back of a Motorcycle vest or jacket. I wore mine for Rolling Thunder and was stopped dozens of time in the Pentagon Parking Lot and later after the Parade from anybody that had ever been stationed there. I go back to Germany every 4 years or so. Was there last in 2001 with my wife and the Schloss Kaserne had been demolished and were building new housing while we were there. The Roman Way Housing Area was still there, only about 50% occupied with mostly GI's stationed at Friedberg and surrounding areas. That housing area is going to be turned over back to the Germans by fiscal year 2007. I'm getting ready to go back in September and will also give the Mayor's Office a couple of the Patches that I promised them. There are a lot of GI's who retired in that area and are now working for DoD. If anyone is interested in the Patch, e-mail me. I'm going to take a close-up shot of the patch and can e-mail a picture back for anyone who would like to pucrchase one at cost. God Bless All

My father was stationed at Ft. Riley Kansas twice. Once in the early 1970's and again from 1982 – 1984. He passed away this year on May 5. Some of his favorite memories are when he was stationed there. All of us kids were born at Irwin Army hospital. I am actually trying to locate a picture of the solider praying stained glass window at the chapel. Can you help?

Started in Charlie Company under CPT. Kadell. Went to many Graf's and Hohenfels, and even had the opportunity to train at Senelager with the British 2nd Queens Rgmt. and some frog outfit. That was the best time I had while at the "Rock".

Even though we spent a lot of time in the field, including the ice thickened shower dry off area in "Tent City", I look back to that period of time as some of the best friendships I have ever made. To this day, I still miss my old platoon. It's the funniest thing, at times I hated being on "The Rock", but there were good times with good people. Anyway, if you were ever at "The Rock", especially from '75-78, give a shout.

"The Infantryman"

As Seen By Himself: A Stout, Handsome, Highly-Trained Professional Killer and Female Idol, who wears a star sapphire ring, carries a finely honed knife, is covered with a crisp camo hat and is always on time due to the reliability of his Seiko Diver's Watch.

As Seen By His Wife: A stinking, gross, foul mouthed bum, who arrives home every 6 months or so with a bag full of filthy laundry, a huge ugly watch, an oversized knife, a filthy hat, and a h**d-on.

As Seen By Headquarters: A drunken Brawling, HMMWV stealing, women corrupting liar, with a star sapphire ring, Seiko watch, unauthorized Knife, and a f**ked up hat.

As Seen By His Commanding Officer: A fine specimen of a drunken Brawling, HMMWV stealing, women corrupting bullshitter, with a star sapphire ring, fantastically accurate Seiko watch, finely honed razor sharp Knife, and a seasoned camo hat.

As Seen By Congress: An over paid, over-rated, tax burden, who is however, indispensable since he will volunteer to go anywhere, at any time, and kill whoever he is told to, as long as he can, drink, brawl, steal HMMWV's, corrupt women, kick cats, lie, sing dirty songs, wear filthy camouflaged clothes, big Sapphire rings, over-sized knives, Seiko watches and really f**ked up hats.

Didn't actually serve. Son of COL Robert Rosenkranz, DIVARTY Commander at the time. Best overseas tour, either as dependent or as an artilleryman in the service. Very fond memories, and often find myself reflecting on my family's stay there with nostalgia. Wish the Army was more like it was when I was a dependent with the 3AD DIVARTY!

I just thought I'd say "hello" to all of you two-year soldiers who served w/ me in B Battery, 2-82 FA "Red Dragons" in Friedberg, Germany and also in the Saudi Arabian and Iraqi deserts. Anyway… I don't know how we made it through… No, I'm not talking about Desert Shield/ Storm… I'm talking about The Studio in Friedberg, The Schwimmbad in Bad Nauheim and the RED LIGHT DISTRICT, Sachsenhausen and the Hauptbahnhof in Frankfurt! My memorys of these places are all still a little blurred and hazed. Anyway, I have managed to make it back to Ray Barracks in 2002 where I was greeted by an unfriendly Turkish gate guard who was not willing to let me into the Kaserne to take pictures… nor could I find a soldier willing to just "sign me in" like we used to do for our buddies "back in the day". Well anyway, I hadn't seen much input on the website from 2-82 FA, so I thought it my duty to REPRESENT a little bit. RED DRAGONS!!!

I served with the Gunner Bn when I was a young private from '90-'92. I was kept in Saudia an extra 2 months with a stay back detail when the BN left back to Central Region. No hard feelings, lol. "The Rock" It has been 20 years now since my arrival in Germany. The time has gone by with remarkable speed. It doesn't seem as though it could be this long. I stumbled into this web-site and have been searching to see if any of my old friends are out there. The list of comments are quite long but one thing they seem to have in common is that everyone comments on the good time they had there. We all had one thing in common and that is it was probably all of our first time to be so far from our homes and country. That forms a bond that can never be broken. I hope that someone from 2/29 FA stumbles upon this and responds. If not I hope you all enjoy this web site and I will continue my search. Spc.4 Sargent,Medic EFMB

I was stationed at Hutier Kaserne from Oct of 1988 to Oct of 1990. I married Rick Dalrymple in 1989, so some of you may remember that name. From what I understand, I was sent to Ft. Lewis WA, two weeks before they shut Hutier down and sent everyone to Desert Storm. Rick and I got divorced (I wish I would have listened to some of you a little more). I am now back in my hometown of Stillwater, OK. I was an E-4 and worked in S-3 for LTC Brown.

I was with 71st Ordinance and both lived and worked at Pioneer Kaserne during the end of the Vietnam War. Our unit repaired "obsolete" missiles that came in, and went back out. I was the "Commo Chief" for the unit. Originally the women lived at Hutier Kaserne, but then they moved us to Pioneer.

I have been trying to locate friends from my unit. I will try to find photos from those days to send.

Sheridans were almost brand new when I got to Armstrong in March of '70. While I was there, we did 2 Grafs and 2 Hoenfels among other things. I was there for that big forest fire in Graf that got started by tracer rounds. We spent the next day removing tracer rounds from the ammo belts. Those train rides were a blast. You never so saw many drunks getting off the train in the morning. It was all we could do to unload the tracks. By the time I left in Aug. of '71, we had "cannabalized" one of the 3 tracks in our platoon just to keep the other 2 running. All of them in the 3/12 were pretty much falling apart. Hope all my buddies are doing okay. Be great to hear from you!

I am also looking for information about the reunions of the WWII 3rd Armd Div Association. Especially the first one they held. If you have any photo's or information on their reunions, please contact me. I want to do a story in the next newsletter. I am also looking for old clippins from papers that have articles about the "Spearhead" division. I attempted to buy 61 copies of Stars and Stripes on Ebay last week from 1944-45. They went for over $200 and I could not afford to spend that kind of money on something like this. I am trying to build an archive of old news articles for the future use of the Association. If you have any clippings from any time period, please contact me.

The July newsletter is available in the members only section for you to download in either Word or Adobe format. For those of you who receive your newsletter by mail, it should be back from the printer and mailed in about 2 weeks. The ballot to vote for the board of director election is in the newsletter. Make sure you read up on the candidates and get your ballot in on time so that you can have a say in who runs the Association. There is also a section in the forum section of the website where you may ask the candidates questions and receive answers.

This site has brought back so many memories. I came to HHB 3ADA from an aviation outfit and served as a company clerk, mail clerk, chaplain's assistant and did my share of guard duty and kp at Graf – all the while carrying a 67U MOS – Chinook crew chief. But I didn't complain – it was better than VietNam. I was disappointed when the deactivated the division. Now I live in Denmark and often think of hopping the train down to Frankfurt and Hanau to see if I can remember anything.

We grew up in New York City. My brother Harold was in the 258th Field Artillery in WWII. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was sent to England for recovery. I was 7 years old when the war broke out. Harold was 17 years older than me. I would like to know how to trace where he landed through the Battle of the Bulge. As his letters were censored, we never knew where he was. Unfortunately, in the 1970's we lost touch. I would also like to reestablish contact with him or his family. He had moved to Dumont, New Jersey. Any guidance you could give me, would be much appreciated.

Sincerely, Mary Warren 4402 Saffron Lane Friendswood, TX 77546

The news was on and I heard them talking about the 3rd Armored Division in Operation Gyroscope, after reading more about the operation I knew I wanted to be a part of it so on 29 June 1955 I enlisted at Chicago Ill. With a bus load of other enlistees we were off to Ft Knox Ky. I was assigned to H&H Co. 32nd Mediam Tank Bn. After a couple months I was sent to The Armd school as a mechanic on wheel and track vehicles. The men I served with were not just friends but more like family and I still keep in touch with my best friend Ken Vissers. Those were the best years I spent in the Army and am proud to have served in the 3rd Armd Div.

While stationed in Glenhausen, West Germany, I trained in all the trainnig ares at least twice, I remmember being assigned to the weapons platoon. I'd like to get in touch with one of my platoon sergents at that time. His name was Sgt. Booser E-7. I'd like to know if he married that German girl, back then by the name of " Ziggy ". I'd also like to get a hold of Jesse Hernandez, Bobby Cantalaro, Zold, Razzo and any one else that remmembers me. Alot of the pictures I took back then were lost during the pass years. One other person, his name was Espi. He and I really got to know each other. I'd like to hear from any one that was there in Germany during 73-75 from all the armored Div.

Was in A Co. 36th Inf and volunteered for Long Range Patrol. Was transferred to Hq & Hq and worked with 143 Sig and in Communications & Cryto. Remember when in 36th being attached out with the 13th Arm Cav or 1st Armd Cav outfits as perimeter guard and getting beer with our Army chow in the evening. Butzbach bar and German food and Beer . Alerts being in Giessen and the cab drivers always knew which units or what type of alert it would be before we did. Cab drivers getting us back on time for alerts in record time. good thing we were a little under the weather as we never would have stayed in a car moving like that if we were sober!

I served with the Gunners right after Desert Storm, and would enjoy hearing from any of the guys I served with, especially Dan Taylor, Mark Gieger, Jeremy Poor, Mike Ihle, or Drew Canini, all who had a real impact on my experience while serving. Just got back from Rolling Thunder, proudly flew out 3'x5' 3ad flag from my bike. Surprisingly saw no others. Had numerous Spearhed vets from 3ad approach me and had some good old "war stories" told. Most from Drake and Edwards, none from Schloss Kaserne, where I was stationed. It was good to see and hear from guys I could relate to. Some did not know about our web site, they will check it out when they get back home. Next year we need to organize a unified ride and roll in together. After all, the 3rd Armored Division was the original "Rolling Thunder"; even had the documentary made about us and shown on the History Channel. So let's show them some team spirit next year.. God Bless all

Still looking for old friends from my old unit. I keep checking in from time to time. I now serve with the USCGAUX FL 12-07 District 11SR. I now stand guard with them and I feel that someone has to watch our back door here at home.

I want to thank all who served and are still serving for a job well done. I for one do appreciate the freedom we have. To the families of those who are still serving, may God bless you and your trooper, if it were not for people like you, we might not have a great nation as we have today.

I would like to ask all of you to please attend a Memorial Day ceramony in you area if you could this year. You may not be active duty but you still belong.

Thank you God Bless you all.

To the 3 AD Soldiers, This weekend is a time of reflection upon the great sacrifice that was made by all of us who served this great armored division. No doubt the Third Armored Division is the greatest to ever serve in World War 2 with so many accomplishments and so many sacirifices of life. It is the greatest armored division to stand the Fulda Gap and guard freedom during an uncertain time that we call the Cold War. It is the greatest armored division to take the field of battle in the Deserts of the Middle East. We Band of Soldiers met the enemy in battle and peace. Once again we stand together on another Memorial Day. To all Thank You, Thank you for your service to this great Division, The Third Armored Division. SPEARHEAD….

I don’t remember If I ever thanked Lt. Annan for sending me, Easterling and Washington on administrative leave to Berchtesgaden with a bus load of people from the 3-36Inf in the fall of 1965. We got to go to Saltzburg, Herrenchiemsee, The Eagel’s Nest and a lot of other beautiful places in the mountains. What made it even more special was in the Spring of 1966 I took an American Express tour to Paris. “The Sound of Music” had just been released and I saw it in English with French subtitles and there were most of the places I had seen in Saltzburg. and Obersaltzburg. Did anyone ever notice at the end of the movie when the Von Trapp family are fleeing the Germans they are on the mountain above Hitler’s house! Thanks Lt. Annan where ever you are.

Remember “The land of the round door knobs and the big PX’s” We had someone from “B” company come back from leave in the US with a round door knob. It was installed on a door on the third floor and I think most everyone came up there just to turn the round door knob.

Did anyone else heat “C” ration cans while in convoy by putting a dent in the unopened can and hold the can to the M113 exhaust with a “Mox Nix” stick until the dent popped out? Then we knew it was done. Anyone remember a weapons demonstrations at Hohenfels, the summer of 1965, when an M60 ran over the haul of a VW Beetle. One could hear a gasp from the German civilians in the crowd when the car was rendered flat as a pancake. The engine had been removed first.

I had heard that one time at Ayres Kaserne during an Alert someone tried playing the sounds of low flying aircraft, explosions, weapons firing etc. Supposedly the place went nuts with vehicles driving through fences, some leaving without the whole crew and general confusion. Can anyone confirm this first hand or is it just an urban legend?

Still miss driving my “track”. Got to swim it twice. Once in Compo Pond than once across the Main. Another M113 got stuck coming out of the river and we had to go to the alternate exit point. In the process one track must have hit a sandbar and we ended up doing a 360° turn in the river. The TC kind of “freaked out” since he didn’t know how to swim and wasn’t happy about the whole operation.

I am proud to have been part of the Third Armored.

Served as 2nd & 1st LT from Jan 66 to Oct 67 at Ayers Kaserne during the draw down of troop for the Vietnam buildup. 2/3rd FA was down to a handful of officers (lots of exposure for yound shavetails) and had lots of new recruits, worked our buns off between inspections, readiness alerts and training at Graf, Vilseck, etc. We did win the DivArty best gunners award. Lots of friends came and went, all served well. Did receive the Army Commendation Award. Leaned lots from LTC Joseph Langley, our Bn Commander.

Got to 3/5 in mid '92. CPT Rodriguez was CO, and 1LT Denis Poyerd was my PLT LDR. SFC Soto was Platoon Daddy. Years later he was S3 SGM at my unit at Ft. Riley. (1-13 AR). I remember CPT Rodriguez' wife was the local bike. Everybody rode her. Had some great times in Germany. I even have a few video tapes still. Lots of time at Graf and Hofenfels. I fondly remember being at Hohenfels and coming under fire from the Opfor. We chased them down and discovered they were a platoon of all female MP's…we were very embarrassed since they had take out alot of our guys with a .50 on a Humvee…ahh, those were the days. I was stationed in “Swinging Budingen” Germany, from March 1975 to September 1979. My unit was D 3/12 CAV. I was a UH-1 Helicopter Crew Chief and remember Armstrong Kaserne/Budingen very well. We stayed in the barracks with the Aero Rifle Platoon. I remember the daily walks from the back gate to the airfield, sometimes stopping at the “Old Number Nine” along the creek. I remember that horrible road which cost both Americans and Germans their lives. Those were the early years in my military career, a lot of field duty, guard duty, alerts, KP, Graf, and Hohenfels. Did I leave anything out? Remember operating the radio on long nights of guard duty, “Winds 10 at 160…Land at Pilot’s…. Discression…snoooooozzzzzzzee.” Anyone remember Dave Engelhardt? He was a Technical Inspector, and owned some land surrounding the airfield. Remember he worked the surrounding fields, and always had a fine cow manure shine on his boots. Heard Dave passed away in the early 1980s. Anyone remember our fearless commander, “Captain Ferrera?” Had the pleasure of working for him again in 1989 as a Full Colonel. After a long day I enjoyed going to Omas' Bier Bar in Orleshausen and knocking back a few. There were a few characters there including Christel and Ziggy, the flipper killer. Does anybody remember the place? Oma had a bunch of old photos of squadron personnel on the wall. They would be a great addition to your website. Remember the low cost of stereos, the albums, concerts, and visits to the Audio Club in Frankfurt. Remember the many get togethers in our four-man room in the barracks. Ronnie, Gregg, Dave, Don, Ira, Bob, Steve, Frank, where are you? Remember the back road drive to Gelnhausen, and Pioneer Kaserne (believe was the only commissary at the time). 1976-1977 were very hot summers in Germany, and to this day very good years for German wine. I remember that discovered cache of Rommel’s whiskey, I remember the "Hole in the Wall" in Budingen, Schloslicks (spell?) and french fries with mayonnaise in newspaper, Moms Bier Bar, big bottles of wine with neat pictures, snipe hunting in the woods, walking the many wooded paths in the area, other forms of entertainment (not mentioning), and visiting the castles of Budingen and Ronnenberg. There was the Budingen NCO club where one could have a couple of beers at lunch. Of course I cannot reframe from mentioning the purchase of my $300.00 Blue Scoot 4-11L VW hatchback automobile, which I eventually totaled on an early alert in Orleshausen.

I served in both 3/61 ada and 3/5 ada in both B btry (86-87) and A btry (87-89) as a 24M. I worked with the M163A1 vulcan and the M163A2 vulcan. My time at Armstrong barracks was memorable. For all to know Moni's Place was the best as Moni herself took care of many of us when we needed.

As far as I know, I have no connection with the 3AD. But my dad was in the 78th ('Lightning') Infantry Division and fought at Hurtgenwald in WWII. There is a site on that horrible episode at http://www.hurtgen1944.homestead.com/Index.html which notes that the 3AD participated (in fact, alongside the 9th Infantry, joined the initial battle), but there is no information on your unit. Please see to it that your contributions and sacrifices aren't lost.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing regarding a previous email that I sent over 4 months ago and never received a response. My father recently passed away and was a member of the 67th FA Bn of the 3rd Armored Division and was also a member of the 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalion.

I am desperately trying to find out if the members of the 67th FA were awarded a Bronze Star for actions during WW II. Any information on my father, Ferdinand Malik, PFC would be helpful. Thanks.

I entered this for my husband. We were stationed in Gelnhausen and he worked in the post office. We lived off base in civilian housing with a German family. It was a wonderful honeymoon. I can't believe I found this site. We loved being there. The German people were really nice and we took advantage of all the sightseeing we could through the American Express tours.

Just downloaded the application off the website, unable to officially join in time for my annual Ride to the Wall this Saturday 5/22. Want to know if there is an organized Meeting of all Riders to DC, prior to getting to the Pentagon Parking Lot or are we just riding seperately and meeting in DC. Just came back from Travel and my wife pleasantly surprised me with some shits, patches and the 3AD Flag. I had a large Patch designed for the Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach, Germany, which should be ready for me to wear in time on Saturday. Will be going back out of Town this afternoon, returning Friday. Please let me know if there is a "Group Ride" in to DC. Hope to see lots of Schloss Kaserne Folks this coming weekend… Thanks, Raimund

I remember my time in Gelnhausen with great fondness. During the summers of 78 and 79, I was a member of the battalion team competing against teams from numerous Bundeswehr, French, Belgian, and US Army units. It was the annual "Westerburg Patrol" – involving forced marches, marksmanship, obstacles course, assault boat crossings, and other military skills. Our team won the overall class and guest class in 78, and was second overall and first in guest class in 79. I took every opportunity to travel while I was in Europe. I served with some great guys, including Karl Sturm and Steven "Andy" Anderson.

I Like the web site. I served 20yrs, 9mos and 29 days. I'm retired now and protecting the home front. I still miss "battle carry sabot". If assistance is needed to update B company battle roster, just e-mail and I'll help.

PS. Slow down when driving through Colorado, you may see my lights in your rearview mirror. "That means I want you to stop".

Again great site….

I'm trying to track down fellow brats and their dads who spent time in Gelnhausen Germany in 1957 to 1959. My dad was batallion sgt major for the 33rd Armor regiment while he was stationed in Gelnhausen Germany [1957 to 1959]. He passed away in 2001…a soldier to the end. Through this cyberspace approach, I am trying to reach out to some of his buddies and their brats. Names of his buddies that pop into my head are Rossiter, Dotson, Means, Shannahan, Pamplin, Kirk, Crosby, Collier, Fleener and other who threw back a few Hennigers down at Alphonso's Foxhole next to the soccer field…the bane of 33rd wives! Also I'm looking for fellow brats from Gelnhausen. Fellow brats include Luther Lewis, Eddie Kirk, Anthony Gresham, Terry Means, Paul Dotson, Larry Kerr, Herbie Duncan, and Paul Ortiz among others whose names I have sadly forgotten. I know you're all out there somewhere! Check in.

AHHHHH!!! Memories of The Rock. The Fifty-Fifty Club. Licher beer and gyros. The Welcome Inn. 3 day weekends (and sometimes 4 day weekends). Hangovers on a morning PT run, (I think I am gonna hurl!!!). Staff Duty NCOs busting us for music too loud. We got busted by SD NCO for launching fireworks out of the barracks window once, LMAO! Seeing German girls with a different guy each weekend,(and "HE" said, "She loves me.") Eating at the Mess-Halls, because we spent all our money on beer and clubbing, and some fools spent it all in the Frankfurt "Red-Light District", and now pay day is two weeks away. Can anyone say we didn't have fun there? Anyone else care to share the memories of "The Rock"?

Hello, I am currently a WW II and Vietnam collector and will be doing a WW II and 39th Scout Dog Platoon Vietnam War Dog Impression at displays. I currently portray a 3rd Armored, 36 AI soldier, with my jeep and other collection and would like to know if the 3rd Armored Division had any K-9 Units attached to it in Europe or state side? Possibly as a Sentry dog or guard dog unit. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather served in WWII in the 83rd recon bn. 3rd armored division. I only recently discovered this as no one could speak of him for the heartbreak of his death 12-25-44. He DOW during the Battle of the Bulge. His name was Royce Edwin Meacham and he left a son, my father, Royce Leo Meacham. It is a huge long shot that anyone who visits these pages knew him, but I thought I would write anyway. God bless you all.

I remember being in Graf in mud up to my ass humping M109A-1 shells up and down the fireing line. The living conditions in the feild were tuff….it made us all tuff. The guesthouses in Friedberg were way too much fun. I'm glad to still be alive and in one piece. Tere were times we ended up in places we damm sure were not supposed to go. S3 Air and Division LNO. Got to live at Division Main HQ (w/o a tent) for the semi-daily CG briefings, then relay information to 1st Bde HQ briefings. Had the opportunity to visit 1st Armored Division on our left flank, travel to other Brigade HQs, each subordinate Battalion HQs, and companies within the Brigade. Learned how information sometimes get quite distorted traveling the chain of command.

Had additional duty as Training Officer to consolidate weekly training schedules from each battalion prior to forwarding to Division HQ – Fridays were always long days. Also was the USR officer – not fun at all! Currently a LTC in the USAR commanding 2-95 MP, 95th Division, Baton Rouge, LA.

I lived in Bad Nauheim and my neighbor was my good buddy John Cromley. He married a woman by the name of Elvi (Elvira) and they had a little girl. After ETS I never heard from him again. If you know him, tell him to contact me. Also, I am trying to find a copy of the Bandit logo. The black diamond with the skull in it. If you have it, could you e-mail it to me? Thanks.

I served as Deputy G-5 under LTC Lon E. Maggart and then BG John R. Sullivan. Respectively, they later went on to become MG Maggart, leading troops in the Persian Gulf War, while GEN Sullivan became the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was both an honor and pleasure to serve under these honorable men.

I remmember the first electric tire changer in the Armstrong Barricks motor pool.

I was swinging the ol' pick ax at a split ring and LTC Rumney was walking by the motor pool bay. He asked me (like any LTC asks) to come with him and bring the tire I was working on.

We went to the next row of motor pool bays and into a bay with a brand new electric tire changer. (my record was 9 tire changes in a day using a pick ax and pry bar.)

That was the day I gained respect for him because he got his hands just as dirty as I did. He knew how to use the changer and I discovered a PFC could talk to a LTC and information could go both ways.

As Bob Hope always said, Thanks for the memories!

Murph

I was stationed at Fliegerhorst Kaserne from Sep. 58 to Sep. 60, with Co D, 2nd Heavy Tank Bn (M 103's). The Cold War was coldest during the Winter Shield operations, on the E. German and Czech borders.

I returned to Hanau in Aug. 1975 as a teacher at the Hanua H.S. and taught there until 1981. My last 16 years in DoD Dependents Schools I was an administrator in Wiesbaden, Germany. I am now retired and living on the banks of the Rhine river.

I was assigned to D Co 23rd Engr from 82-87, Then A Co 88-89. After that I got out in Europe and went to work for the USO. Came back to the states in time to see the 3AD fight the Iraqi's. Saw the Border with the 11th ACR and the Wall with the Berlin Brigade. I was attached to almost every Division in USAEUR and some Bundeswehr units as Combat Engineer Support/Advisor or German Translator. Worked as Community Liaison Officer (as an E-6) in DIVARTY. Had a great time and some not so great. I'd really like to get in touch with some old 23rd Engineer Troops, share some stories and pics. The best times were the REFORGERs, Grafs and Hohenfels (forget Wildflecken) with the guys. How about a Sapper reunion?

I am not really sure what company I was assigned to without having to dig through a lot of paperwork. However I do like the idea of the association. I was there for almost three years and made many long nights getting ready for qualification. My unit the 3rd and 32 qualified as the top tankers for the three years I was there. I will not be able to join the reunion this year I will be in Ft. Lewis training rotc cadets. But I will make it there next year. I am interested in to hear from friends of mine Lonnie and Bruce Bell from Nebraska.

I was on the internet and found some pictures of Michael Barracks. Its was suprising the feelings you have for a place that you both loved and hated. I remember getting to 3rd AD replacement and being asked if i liked to walk. Well i learned what walking really was at Dco 533rd. I learned alot more than that during my time with 533rd M.I. It was an experiance that influences one for years to come. I am proud to be apart of a company, battalion, division, a great group of people who gave there all to america. To those who remember me please drop me a line, to everyone else i would like to hear from you too. To anyone who may have photos of Michael Barracks please take a moment and post them on the internet, there are several sites for our unit. Thankyou

I served with the 23d Engr Bn (Cmbt) from June 1961 to June 1966. I worked with the S-3, then with the ADM Platoon. I arrived in Hanau a PVT E2 and left there a SSG E6. My last position was Battalion Special Weapons NCO. If I could have stayed with the 23d 20 years I definately would have.

I served as a company-grade officer in A/1-32 AR, HHC/3BDE, and HHC/3-32 AR.

I reported to A/1-32 AR in July of '75. LTC Rutherford commanded the battalion at the time, not later as you have him listed. The A Company commande was William Kurmes. Please correct your records.

LTC Dennis assumed command of 3-32 AR from LTC Jordan some time in 1976, but he was relieved. A Major Healy was interim commander, until LTC Line arrived. Line commanded the battalion through my departure in the Summer of '78.

Went back to Butzbach for my golden Konfermation on Palmsunday 2004. Since our friend Erwin BORK bought the Ayers Kaserne "Rock" and they took a lot down already I took pictures. Erwin drove me around and I took many pictures. Will put them on ofoto and email them. Schloss Kaserne is City Hall of Butzbach and is looking so nice. It was a castle, the DUKE of Hessen Nassau sold some of his Soldiers to the english Crown and some fought in Yorktown 1776. Than Hitler made it a Kaserne and the after the war the US Army took it over. The housing in Butzbach has a very high fence around and it looks like the glass palast for the bad boys next door. Will write more about the ROCK later, what it was for Hitler in WW2 My father changed a lot of Hitlers cars and made woodburning cars so they could drive without gas. I remember those days very well. Will gether pictures and see what I can do to help the 3rd Armor Div. with the history of the ROCK. email me if you like to find out more about the ROCK or Schloss Kaserne

Assigned to supply under Major Crawford and Sergeant Wilson until transferred to S4 at 7th Army Headquarters during duty in Germany in 1956. Met some of the finest men I've known. Discharged in Brooklyn in June 1957. Graduated from law school in Jan. 1961. 3 of my children are lawyers and I am still practicing. Regret not having obtained a yearbook when in service.

My brief association is as follows: I joined the 3rd A.D. after I was transferd from the 106 Infantry Division during the summer of 1945. The 3rd A.D. at this time was stationed in Ellwagen, Germany. I was assigned to the 32nd's Regimental Headquarters S-2 group under the immediate command of Major Richard Treadwell. The 32nd, CCA was commanded by Col."Dick Richardson. I stayed with the 32nd until they were also disbanded in the fall of 1945, I was then assigned to the 59th QM Depot, 7th Army, headquartered in Mannheim, Germany. I remained with the 59th until I shipped stateside to be discharged in June 1946. I am looking for the whereabouts of Joe Kinn, a combat veteran of the 3rd A.D.

-A lost young man 19-22 yrs old, "lost" with no meaningful life goals in mind, except one! -Hessen Homburg Kaserne (Hanau) in 64C mos, I liked driving crazy cause racing is still in my blood. Once I got caught doing donuts in the snow with a 5ton dump truck. -I never made it past PFC. I liked spending ALL my money on Stereo Equipment so American music would make me feel close to that part of the globe called "home land." -Never got romantically involved 'cause I didn't want the baggage to bring back to the states: just wanted to do my 3 yrs time. -Had only 1 fight: thanks Earl Day, it was a ground wrestle. Mich Machaud gave me a black eye once while i was bed ridden, it healed but still got a crack in my front tooth. -Motor Pool is where i ended my 3yr tour, thanks 1st Sgt: I found God.

-Oh that 1 goal: Which religion or Church Should I join without having my Dad force me to be a Baptist. Was I ever surprised: The best Church idea was surpassed by far: I know "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" is the true Church and Kingdom and Bride of Christ. I was Baptized 18March1979 and when I got home my dad kicked me out of house 3 months later for joining the devils cult. -Went on to serve a 2 year mission in California, did 3 more years in National gaurd in Florida, Got a 4 year degree in Computer Science. -Now 25 years later, got 4 kids, been married 16 years, been working as a "Senior Programmer Analyst" for 12 years here in Florida for Orange County. -Scoutmaster Service to young men is what I do for a hobby: maybe they can do better than me and not be so lost. -Kernes r u out there: I thought you lived a cool headed life in Germany! -Military life can be ennobling and a great Character builder with professional counselling and encouragement.

WAS MADE A SGT IN THE UNIT POLICE RIGHT OFF THE BUS!!! WORKED AT THE MAIN GATE AND EARNED A ADDITIONAL MOS AS M.P. TRIED TO GET TRANSFERED TO 503rd MP, BUT WAS RETURNED TO MY ARMOR UNIT . NOT ARMOR TRAINED, SAW I WAS TO BE A TANKER, LIKE IT OR NOT . THEY ASSIGNED ME TO 2nd PLT AND WAS GIVEN COMMAND OF A TANK, THAT THEY USED AS A PARTS TANK, TO KEEP OTHER TANKS GOING!! STARTED REBUILDING THE TANK FROM THE INSIDE OUT. BOUGHT MY OWN PAINT, OR FIXED STUFF LAYING IN THE MOTORPOOL. LEARNED TO FIRE TANKS AT TANK GUNNERY, USING OTHER TANKS IN THE UNIT. READ SO MANY MANUELS, I STARTED CORRECTING THE TRAINING NCO. SO I WAS TOLD TO GIVE THE CLASS MYSELF. DID A GOOD ENOUGH JOB, THEY MADE ME TRAINING NCO.IN THE WINTER OF 76, AT GRAF, MY CREW FIRED A PERFECT SCORE. TOP GUN, OF THE 3rd AD. AFTER GUNNERY, MY CO TOOK MY TANK AND CREW, GAVE ME HIS TANK AND 3 RECRUITS. WE HAD BEATEN HIM AS TOP GUN. BY SPRING GRAF, I HAD GOTTEN HIS TANK IN TOP SHAPE, BUT HAD A BAD GUN TUBE. THE NIGHT BEFORE RECORD FIRE , MY GUN TUBE WAS PUT IN, AND SINCE I HAD BEEN AT THE MOTORPOOL FOR THREE DAYS WITH LITTLE SLEEP, THE GERMANS WORKERS USED THEIR EQUIPMENT TO BORE SIGHT ALL MY WEAPONS. A CASE OF AMERICAN WHISKEY, ALSO HELPED.( OK, SO COURTMARTIAL ME!!!) GOT ON LINE RIGHT BEFORE RECORD FIRE STARTED, UP LOADED, AND FIRED A PERFECT SCORE, TIED WITH THE CO. AT HIGHT FIRE, WAS GIVEN SEARCH LIGHT DUTY, WAS UP ALL NIGHT, AND WAS THE LAST TANK TO FIRE. AT 4:30 AM, STARTED MY RUN, AND I KNEW EVERY THING WAS GOING TO GO MY WAY. TOLD MY CREW HOW I FELT AND SAID THAT WE WERE WINNERS, NO MATTER WHAT!!!! BEAT MY SCORE AND OPENING TIMES OF WINTER GRAF. TOP GUN , TWO TIMES IN A ROW.EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T LIKE TANKS, IT JUST DIDN'T GET BETTER THAN THAT!!!!!!!!!!THE ONLY THING I HATE IS SOMEONE STOLE MY FIELDJACKET WITH MY TWO TOP GUN "SMOKEBRINGERS" PATCHES. WAS GOING TO RE-UP, BUT THE LAST TIME THEY HELD THE E-6 BOARD, THEY PUT THE SUPPY SGT ON MY TANK AND GAVE IT TO HIM. WAS TOLD I WAS NEXT! AS I HAD TRAINED THIS KID AS A PRIVATE, IN WHAT LITLE TANK TRAINING HE HAD RECEIVED, I HAD SEEN ENOUGH !!I RENEGED ON MY INTENT TO RE-UP AND STARTED TO PROCESS OUT . THE GUY, WHO TOOK MY SLOT, WAS ALSO THE RE-UP NCO. LOOKED BAD FOR HIM, BUT THEY MADE HIM MY PLT. SGT BEFORE I LEFT, I GUESS TO GET BACK AT ME.I DON'T REGRET MY DECISION, BUT THERE WERE TIMES I REALLY MISSED IT!!

Got off the ship in Bremen and went straight to Graf. The next day I volunteered for a typing job — they sent me to Frankfurt to work in the G3 Section. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there in Frankfurt — great cultural environment (compared to Southern California) and met some great guys and a few German gals. Also enjoy being out in the field — and the monthly alerts. Didn't care for guard duty or KP. After a year there I saw an ad in the Stars and Stripes – 24th Inf Div Band looking for musicians — so, off to Augsburg where I finished out my 3 years as a piano player and cymbal player. Great experience. If you were in Frankfurt during '62, drop me a line.

My father was Staff Sargeant, Robert William May. He was in the 3rd Armored Division.

I would like to obtain as much history of just where he went and what he did as I can locate.

He died in 1984.

Thanks, Diana May

Went over on the USNS Darby in '56, back on the USS Randall in '58. At Edwards Kaserne. Lots of alerts. field problems, hectic bigtime sometimes. But we got the job done. Remember Capt. Hardy, Lt's Blasingame, Neff, Honma, Sgt's Allen, Solt,Reed, Roudebush, Hobeck amd Carr. Many moons ago, great memories. Looking for to buy a 3rd AD yearbook from 1955 when we reactivated the outfit at Ft.Knox…I've lost mine. Like to hear from any of the old guard…

My name is SFC(R) Joseph F Spencer and I was the Maint NCO in the BDE S-4 from Nov 1 1990 until I retired in March 1992. SSG Leroy Johnson was the Ammo NCO not the Maint NCO during this time. One other thing is that I am glad that if I have to go to war I am very glad that "Wild Bill Nash" was are commander. I will never forget CPT Joe Kime.

Need to find Aaran Stout.(Flashman), contac me. Hello, I was with the 3d Armored Division a long time. I have 2 lifetime Spearheader awards in a frame. They are almost the same, except the Divarty Sergeant Major's names. One Reads, United States Army Europe, 3d Armored Division. Then the 3d ad patch, then reads,To All Who Shall See These Presents, Greetings, STAFF SERGEANT MARVIS W. HASTINGS is hereby appointed a LIFETIME SPEAREADER For his faithful performance of duty while serving on the frontier of freedom with the famous 3d Armored Division (Spearhead). Given under my hand this 15TH Day of JULY 1988 at Hanau,Germany Thomas E. Carr, CSM, USA Divarty Sergeant Major. This is one of mine the other is signed by another CSM. One when I was with the 2-6 FA, then it changed to 4-82 FA. I do still have all my unit creast from my units with the 3ad. I am retired now, One of the last few men Drafted, and stayed in. Old coffie cups and costers, coins, all 3ad I saved, My pen sets I saved. This is my history. At one time, they called it Re-Up trash, now they wished they saved it. I loved my life with the 3ad, and have missed it every day after I retired. I would love to see her colors fly one more time on the parade field. I retired after Desert sheild,Desert Storm. If any one out there knows how to get in touch with Aaron Stout, 4/82 survey sec, or any of the medic's, or PA, drop me a line. My E-Mail address stay's the same. Motor Dad. 4/82 FA Bn. Maint sec. Any one with 4/82 knows me, They either ran, or I dead lined them.

I was in CCCA 2nd ARB 46th Infantry D company 1st platoon. I am in contact with Harris Gurowitz and Paul Lawrence but, would love to hear from others. Captain Oscar Patrick and Captin Goodwin were the CO's while I was there. Two fine officers and leaders. Battalion CO's were Lt.Col Halperin, LTC Caudill and from my hometown of Jackson/Dyersburg Tn LTC Jessie Overall. 1st Lt. Paul Olson was my platoon leader for a long while. I cannot remember the name of his replacement but he a was former SP4 and OCS graduate who didn't particularly care for his fellow officers. He slept and ate with the platoon when we were on maneuvers. Some of the guys were: Dayton Selby, John Smith, Hanes Simmons, Juanito (Johnny) Mendez, John Wade, Ron Twaro, Marlin Teunge, Merlin (Mike) Iles, Jerry Copeland, James Hull, Frank Turner and many more. Anyone out there??

I still wear the spearhead combat patch today. I joined the 3AD (forward) in Saudi, Jan 1991. I was a chemical officer (CPT) assigned to USMA and was deployed from West Point to support Desert Shield and later Desert Storm. I was assigned to the 22d Chemical Company but housed and used as a DTOC chemical officer at Division Main and Div Rear (G3). LTC Adams, from Arkansas was the Chemical Officer. CPT Trently was Asst Chem Officer as was CPT Prescott who was mainly with the Jump TOC. I received my acceptance to medical school while in theater. I was the Chemical Officer asked to go and investigate the "spider bite" of the scout who got into some ?? blister agent. The Chemical Co recon team later investigated. At the end of hostilities, I worked with the historian to do the first draft of the unit diary in theater. I had kept a personal diary during the deployment which I still have today. I left the division shortly after we crossed into Kuwait and returned back to USMA in mid-March 91 after being coined by MG Funk. I returned to USMA and was the only 3AD soldier who was present at West Point when Gen Schwarzkopf gave his famous speech to the cadets. I left active duty in 1991 having received no medals or recognitions from serving with the 3AD during Desert Storm. Using my documents (orders and such), I was able to verify my participation in Desert Storm. However, since the 3AD rolled up their colors in Germany after the draw down, I never received the individual awards and decorations which still escape me today. I went on to medical school and reactivated in 1999. I am now a LTC in the Medical Corps, active duty, and am stationed at APG. With my background in Chemical, Combat experience in chemical with the 3AD, Instructor time at West Point, and being a physician, Branch placed me at the US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense's Chemical Casualty Care Division. Once I get all my bags unpacked, I would love to submit some of my relics to the archives.

Dr Benjamin Hill LTC, MC Physician Scientist "Spearhead"

Lots of memories from my time there. Can't say I enjoyed it too much while actually going through my time there, but it was a rewarding experience now that I can reflect back on it. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I definitely grew up a lot while over there.

I have several photographs from Friedberg as well as from when 1/32 traded in M60A2's for A3's. I am willing to scan them and send them along to be included on the appropriate web-site. Please contact me re:where to send.

Also, CPT David C. Elliot was CO of HHC from 77-79; CPT Ronald D. Myers took over command of HHC in 1979 (in case you want to include on Co.CO's roster)

I served as a Tank Mechanic in Erlangen, Germany (Ferris Barracks). I got to see the transition from the old dinasaur M-60 (12 Cyl. Detroit Deisel Engines) to the M-1 (Turbine Engines). Also saw the transition from the jeep to the humvee… Went to basic training in Fort Dix, NJ and AIT in Fort Knox, KY. Served from 88-93 in inactive reserve while attending college.
