Those were some very important formative years I spent in Ayers Kaserne. I learned a lot about myself and made some very good friends. I'd love to get in touch with some of my old buddies to remember the good old times, so feel free to contact me.

The Bad-der Main-HUFF Gang and the infamous Red Brigade and various other terrorist units and cells !!! Anti-Terrorism Armed Reactionary Force and Back Up Armed Reactionary Force– it was very, very thrilling !!! What about Panzer Armee Korps Afrika Korps whiskey ? Gin so smooth that it went down like water… Scotch so bright and light ! If ever I see WW II Battle Capture Panzer Armee Korps Afrika whiskey for about US $ 7.00 a bottle I'm going to buy the lot and have a party !!!

I had a good time at Ayers and made a lot of good friends and saw a lot of good soldiering. This was my 2nd tour in Germany. 2/36Th. Inf. Ranger Bn. on the Rock brings back a lot of memories. My 1st tour was with 1/8th Inf. in Crailshim down south. This is the area I was able to follow a SMLM unit in a restricted area. I was able to give all the Info. to S-2 intel. and the SMLM unit was detained. What a rush that was. Is the Badar Mainhuf group still acting up in Germany? They caused a few problems when I was stationed in the F.R.G . I hope to be able to hook-up with some of the soldiers I knew on the "Rock", You all take care and God Bless!

Hope all Spearheaders had a wonderful Christmas and wishing all the best in the coming New Year. Since my first message in the guestbook almost two years ago, I have only seem one Spearheader that served in the 503d Admin. Co. during my time in the Division. I called several Spearheaders on Christmas Day that I've stayed in touch with since 1968. Have lost touch with many others because addresses and phone numbers have changed. Anyone that remembers serving with me, please email me. It's wonderful talking about old times and what's happened in our life since. have changed

Since a fellow scout confessed to a daring exploit, I guess the time has come to do likewise. Anyone in HHC 2/36 who remembers the bogus DF's that kept appearing in the Battalion and Company Bulliten boards, some of which sent the BN CO and Company CO into a rage, well, It was ME!!!! Had lots of fun with that until 1SG Cue figgured out who the smartass was. He was cool though. Best First Sergeant I ever had. Scouts out, Rangers may lead the way, but the Scouts lead the Rangers.

I served in the S2 of 4-32 Armor (Red Lions). Truly one of the most challenging parts of my career.

I have recently retired, and now slumming as a contractor at the Intel school at Ft Huachuca, AZ.

I have had some contact with LTC John Kalb, commander of the battalion during Desert Storm. He is now retired, after rising to the rank of COL.

Does anyone have any information on the location of SGT Mike Winters??? I'd appreciate any info on where he is now.

RED LION, READY FIRST, SPEARHEAD!!!

Still looking for fellow "Bandit Scouts". I am in contact with Mike "T" Taylor and SGT. John Yang. Also would like to contact a "redcoat" Scout who became Delta Company C.O. driver– SP/4 Shepard. Hey Shep, remember in August of 84 when you were on C.Q. and you fell asleep and some camoed up drunk scout stole the company guidon? I almost got it home when I took leave. I had it in my flight bag, but as my bags were to be searched in the A.M. I stuck it under my dressed down bunk. Went home on leave, but SFC Beldon was waiting for my return. I did my 40 push-ups and had a heart to heart with the Sarge( a Scout in Nam). Wild times and fond memories. SGT. Hanna has the only picture to make me guilty of this awesome display of a Scout in action. SCOUTS OUT!!!!!!!!!

When I arrived, we (the mortar platoon) were in HHC 3/36 inf. We were reorganized into E co when 3/36 Inf Changed colors to 5/5 CAV. And back into HHC for Desert Storm. Anyone remember the name of the little bar in downtown Butzbach? The one where you could get a Gyros and Pommes for 1.50 Marks? God I miss that place. Of course I don't miss the 2:30 alerts, Graf, Hoenfels, waiting for a fire mission so we could warm our hands on the base of the Mortar Cannon…

Just wanted to acknoledge to everyone that the web page for Lafeyette G. Pool(Tanker Ace) is one of the best I've read. Pool is my Grandfather and I've waited a very long time to be able to read all the accounts of his past. I've heard all of the stories from him and my Granny, but it's alot more to be able to read it like this. I'm 27 yrs. old now and wish I am able to get into the military and follow in his footsteps. But I'm a sever diabetic and unable to. So thank you very much for this documentation of his glorious history.

I can't believe that no one in the scout platoon of old "Blood and Guts" is registered on this page; of course we were not particularly known for our intelligence, the smart ones managed to stay out of the field and in jobs that kept them warm in the winter.Sure miss the beer and the guys of the old platoon, would like to hear from any of the old gang if you are on the webb. I drove HQ 77 for Sgt Bell, in fact I drove it till it blew up before leaving in Dec 68.

I was first assigned to "B"Co as a tank commander then transfered to CSC. I was transfered because I was trained on the Redeye system and when the CSC Co was formed it included Redeye. We were known as the taxi section because of all the jeeps and trailers assigned. When I arrived in 1971 I was a SSG the 1Sg of CSC was 1Sg Henry Tillman and I learned a lot from him that NCO Academy did not teach. He was rough but no one ever cared for his troops like him. The Bn CO was LTC Hattersly and the S-1 was Capt Anderson, SFC Eugene Wenek and SP/4 Severson The one trooper I remember most was SP/4 Birdsong, he was an outstanding trooper. I had a son born during this time and due to a birth defect we were med-evac to the states in December 1973. I stayed in the Army untill 1985 and retired as a 1Sg. I went on to join the Harris Texas County Sheriff's Department and now am wearing Sgt's stripes again. My son recovered from corrective surgery and is a Deputy Sheriff with the department. would like to hear from any one who served with me during this trying period. The men of the "Bandits" were good to me and my family.

Just returned from Germany after a two week TDY deployment to Ramstein AB with the air national guard. I wanted to make a trip up to Kirch Goens and Butzbach and see what happen to the ROCK. Anyway, never made it, however, I did get a chance to stop in Frankfurt, Gelnhausen, and Hanau while on the way up to Berlin by train. Boy, did it bring back great memories of my time spent with the 3AD.SPEARHEAD ON.

My father was a member of this unit during WWII. His name was William Burton Cook. He may have gone by Bill at that time. To my knowledge most people called him Burton. I was wondering if you have a listing of the WWII Vets who were in this unit and possibly address information, etc.

I had the pleasure of serving in the 3AD two different times, (and almost a third if I hadn't retired) As a mechanic I was originally assigned to 1-32 AR, but 2-27 owed 1-32 AR a track mechanic, so I was went to work on M109A1's, Then when I returned the 3rd time to europe (2nd time 3/11 ACR)I was assigned to 1-48, changed to 4-18 INF, and we were supported by 45 FSB (Forward Support Battalion) where there motto was "We don't support, and you can't make us" The even made a video and played it for us at a battalion dining in.

I keep hoping to find some old friends here,so far no luck. As Christmas draws near I remember Dec,1958 and our trip to the Orphanage at Giessen, one of the most memorable Christases for me. I remember us sitting on the back of a truck as we were preparing to leave, singing Silent Night Holy Night and the kids on the ground singing along with Stille Nacht, Heilge Nacht, lots of soldiers and lots of tears of joy,God bless…

Went back to Butzbach and Ayers to check it out. Worked for about six months on the economy under the table and miss it alot. Probably will go back even though Iam getting old. Just can't get enough of that old feeling. I still love the town of Butzbach and will go back and live like a pauper. Hello to all of my old friends-Joe Telgenhof, Russ Johnson, Bill Steadman and Mikey.

Have fond memories and will never forget all the brawls, comraderie, and partying. Hello to all I didn't mention. In the immortal words of the terminator-"I'll be back".

Am I still a member?

Web Manager's Note:  you are probably referring to the old "Spearhead Association".  No one seems to know how that was organized or where its records went upon inactivation of the 3d Armored Division.  In effect, it appears to no longer exist.  There are currently two veterans' organizations associated with the 3d Armored Division:  the first is the WWII-only "3d Armored Division Association (1941-45)"; the other is the "Association of 3d Armored Division Veterans", open to 3AD veterans regardless of era served.  The latter is the organization that sponsors this website.

I was in 1st platoon and served initially as the Platoon Leader's T.C. The evening prior to the ground war, I resumed my original position as a Team Leader and T.C. for 2nd squad. My Squad leader was SSG Carlos Ayub. My memory fails me now pretty often, so I should have written the information that I knew a long time ago. However, there are a few of my comrades which were assigned with me in Delta Company and we may collectively be able to provide much information on the roster and events of our specific company. I am looking for any and all former members of my unit. I am stationed at the MANSCEN, Fort LeonardWood. I am currently serving as a Small Group Leader in Engineer BNCOC. My e-mail address is: gonzalest@wood.army.mil, or hustlers_g@jobe.net. Thank you for this web site SSG Gonzales

Noticed that HHC DISCOM does info does not include Division Ammunition Officer/Division Ammunition Office/and DISCOM HHC Commander, ISG + The HHC Commander is the 3D Armored Division Rear Tactical Operations Center (TOC)Commandant. (Jerry Torres, DAO and HHC Commander 3D Armored Division DISCOM (Aug 85-Sep 88)

Also add MMC (Materiel Management Center) organization to HHC DISCOM – provides all divisional support for all classes of supply (MAJ/LTC SLOT) Also Operations Officer (S-3) Position (Maj/LTC). Did it include also an Aviation Section – and Aviation Unit (may have moved out of Organization)? It did when I was there.

Missing also from DISCOM Organization is the Missile Maintenance Company (E Company).

More General Powell Information: LTG Collin Powell was the V Corps commander (3AD/8ID) For about 6+ months and at first refused to leave his corps command when called by the pentagon, until called personally by the President sometime during (85-88). He wanted to serve his full tour with his troops.

I would like to get information about my stepfather who also served in the 3rd during WWII. His name was Joseph W. Magiera. He served from Apr 42 to Nov 45. His discharge listed his organization as Btry C 871st FA BN. His MOS was Medium Tank Crewman.

If there are any people who served in the 143rd Sig. Bn. 57-58 at Drake/Edwards I would like to hear from them.

I was a wrecker operator and was assigned to Company B for a while. The pictures on Dan Ortiz website brought back a lot of memories.Sometimes I think of the guys and wonder where they are at; William Tipton, Frank Door,Sgt. Reeves, Sgt. Mace, James Ivey and others that I can only remember their faces no names but I keep trying to remember and keep searching websites and they jog my memory heres another one Bill Sparks. If anyone remembers me or any of these guys e-mail me and let me know.

Served in A 3/36 In on the Rock, Ayers Kasern 79-81, my CO was Cpt Christoper B. Dickey and 1SG was Robert Webber, my Battalion Cdr was LTC Corson, and My Brigade Cdr was Recently retired Gen Gordan R. Sullivan. I have some great pics of the Kasern in an album if anybody needs some I can scan. During early 1981 Co A had a fire which gutted the third floor, we were luck to get out that night w/ few injuries, I was there on alert many mornings. One I'll never forget was the day we moved out to sector from our AA it was the morning after the newly formed Delta Force was forced to withdraw after a failed attempt to rescure American hostages held in Iran. I am currently approaching retirement from active service now with the NJ Army National Guard, I am a Operations NCO for an Infantry battalion, I owe a lot of my current sucess to the things I learned in my early days on the Rock

To whom it may concern, I had been looking for such a site like this one for awhile now and was very pleased and very shocked at the same time. As I was browse through the site I came across an area or page were it was stating the soldiers of 3rd AD that have been killed or died and to my surprise my name was on that list. Well not to sound like a wise ass, I'm still breathing and kicking very much. No offense taken, but it would be nice if my name could be removed from that list. Thank You Torres,Daniel E

Arrived in Frankfurt,March 1968. Was stationed at Gibbs Kaserne. Worked at Drivers Testing for 15 months. This was located across street from the Plantation Club. Up the street from the WACs Barracks. Down the street from the 97th General Hospital. Ran the Arms Room for 3 months at HHC V Corps at Gibbs. Worked the last 6 months at the IG Farben (later Abrams) Bldg in the Unclassified Distribution Center. My (then) wife came to Germany and we lived on Am-Tiergarten Sta. Loved my time in Germany and went back December 1999. Things sure had changed in 30 years. Gibbs is overgrown with weeds and I.G. Farben was being refurbished for the university. Would love to hear from others that was stationed there.

It would mean a great deal to me to hear from any 3AD veteran especially those from WW II. As veterans we all have something that non-veterans cannot understand. A civilian has no comprehension of the bond formed between those serving our country be i9t peace time or war time. If at all possible, contact those you served with and keep in touch with them as you go through life.

The 899th was a separate Tk Bn stationed at Fliegerhorst Kaserne during the 1950's. It was part of the 4th Armor Group which consisted of three tank battlions and two Armored Infantry Battlions. The 899th was deactivated in 1958 or 1959. During my time with the Battlion as a tank platoon leader and company executive officer our Battlion S3 was a young Captain Alexander Haig. I departed the battlion in November 1956 just prior to the Russian invasion of Hungary.

Just a quick note of thanks to those who run this great site. I would be glad to provide information on 4-82 FA in Desert Storm, and will look through my old papers to see what I can find. Special "hello" to Mike Williard and Brian Hatheway!

Served as a communications specialist, 05B20 in Gelenhausen. I mustered out at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. Then I finished college, while staying in the reserves as a 51H (construction supivisor). Then I went to the 85th Armored Division as a 19E4(M60A3), then to Drill Sergeants School at Ft. Knox, Ky, then Tank Commanders School at Gowen Feild, Idaho. Now I'm on AGR status as a 51H4X for the reserves and stationed in Middletown, Ia (Iowa Army Ammunition Plant). As a 51H4X, I've been stationed at Davenport, Ia, Ft. Seridan, Il, Rock Island Arsenal, Ft. Sam Houston, Tx, and Toledo, Oh.

Sometime in 2001 & with the help of my GS-12 Computer Specialist son, I will dive into a ‘Jim & Gelnhausen: A Little of This, A Little of That’ “home page”. I would like to include scans of Fulda Gap maps, Thanksgiving 1962 HHC 2d ARB 48th Infantry Menu, insignias, a few pictures, etc. Before I focus in that direction I would like to share something here & therein keep it separate from being part of home page endeavor. I married my high school sweetheart on 1 May 1962, 3 days before leaving for AIT Signal School in Ft Gordon, GA & then on to NY & a boat ride to Germany. I arrived in Gelnhausen on the first Sunday in September 1962. As a married RA (I enlisted for 3 years), I was obliged to a 24 month tour of duty in Gelnhausen. My wife made preparations to join me in Gelnhausen (I still have her Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, health check card dating from that time) . . . however, I was told by more than one person above the junior enlisted grade (including the Company Commander) that Gelnhausen was really crowded, that command sponsored soldiers (let’s call ‘em E7s) should have an opportunity to rent the available housing "on the economy" pending their sponsored quarters coming available, etc. (the “etc.” to include that junior EMs were frowned upon finding apartments in communities beyond the immediate Gelnhausen area … since they were a problem in getting to Post for Alerts, etc.) I was told that it would be better to wait “9 months or so” before considering bringing my wife over. (I also got the hogwash about how being 8 months into E3 by then, & likely really close to E4, might really improve my financial ability to compete with the above E7s in the housing market.) By the 9 months later date my wife had become deeply involved in some serious family issues involving her parents & her siblings, of which there were 3. As a consequence, she never did come to Germany. I was amazed to read a US Congress report dated 1978, which stated that prior to 1973 the military (Army in this case) could observe "no financial plight (because few junior enlisted personnel could afford to support a wife on their meager pay, to say nothing of transporting a family overseas at their own expense)." Page 8, "Junior Enlisted Personnel Stationed Overseas", Wash, DC: US GPO, 1979. Oh, by the way, the very next sentence on page 8 cryptically states, "With the advent of the All-Volunteer Force and the consequent higher pay for junior enlisted personnel, equitable treatment of even the most junior personnel became an issue." (The word-smiths were really busy on that document.)

Greeting Spearheaders! Great site. Arrived in Oct of 1986 and became Platoon Sergeant of 1st Platoon D 3/36th. Great Platoon! In 1987, I was drafted by new BC, LTC Goff to run the S-3. I couldn't even spell TOC! Went through Bradley NETT and reflagging to 5-5 CAV in October 1988 as the Operations Sergeant (borrowed a video camera from TASO and videoed the ceremony on the parade ground. Perhaps the only copy in the world). In 1999, moved back to the line and took over 1st Platoon, C 5-5 CAV as an 11B! No, I did not reclass to 11M. In Apr of 1990, took over as 1SG under CPT Schaffer when 1SG Johnson was relieved by LTC Deegan. PCS'ed in August 1990. Without a doubt, KG was the best four years I spent in my 21 years of active duty. Sad to see what it looks like now. Oh well, life goes on! Retired in April 1994. To all from the Ready First Combat Team – Bayonets!!

I was in 2/32 Armor twice from Jun 1976 to Oct 1979 then I returned in Apr 1981 to Jun 1988. I was Bn Master Gunner 1984 – 1986, During my last stretch I was in C Co from 1986 to 1988, Acting First Sergeant for the last part of that period. I spent a good part of my career/life there, and have many fond memories of my old home. I'd enjoy hearing from any old friends who were there with me if they happen to be browsing this site and notice my message. If you'd like to say hi please drop me a line at my email address. I'm really, really, really, enjoying retirement, mainly because of my experiences at the "Rock". I believe I have a lifetime membership to the "Spearhead Association" also, and at one time owned the key to the back gate of Ayers Kaserne. I enjoyed looking around this site, and hats off to those responsible individuals who put this together. They've done a superb job. "Outlaws" I'll talk to you later MO

I was a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Turret mechanic with HHC, 5/18th INF, 3dr BDE, 3rd AD. I was assigned to the Scout Platoon during desert storm as a dismount scout and also assisted with the maintenance of all the turrets and weapons systems of the Scout platoon while we were "forward". I know many pictures were taken and I know some were lost. If you have any you would like to share with me I would appreciate it. Also if anyone know the where abouts of then SSG LaMountain in maintenance, I would like to contact him for some pictures he took. Thanks.

Still Looking for a few good Sappers. Is there any type of member roster? scanning the message boards gets a little tough. Loved my time with Spearhead(well at least 85% of it). Plan to return & visit in a couple of years. I hope all of you who visit this site & are ex "Spearheaders" are joining! They can't run a great site like this on well wishes & I'd hate to see it go away!

I was a gunner assigned to C-24 M-60A1 and qualified at Graf in early 1968. As I recall my crew of C-24 shot third highest in the Battalion at that time. The high scores were from bird colonels as TCs and using E6s as gunners. It was my TCs a platoon Sgt. 5th attempt over many years to just qualify at Graf and was as surprised as I was when we shot perfect score on infrared (night course) and were all searched after we came off range to see if we possesed notes or written instructions concerning the course. No one else had shot perfect score in the battalion. Though, my TC had been to Graf several times. It was the rest of the crews first time after 45 days training in the gunnery courses in the field. We were all quite pleased about the whole thing. I did not get assigned KP dutie by that Sgt. ever again! Enjoyed the web site will keep in touch. Surprised no one had posted a picture of the Melody Bar in Bad Nuehiem! The sixtys were a wild time for US soldiars there were numerous racial attacks and men going awol to live for years as Germans. I enjoyed the German people immensely while there though we would spend 9 months out the year in the field. The invasion of Checoslavakia and the snatching of the Pueblo by the zN. Koreans kept us on high alert the whole time I was there. I am 54 years old today and had often daydreamed of visiting Ray Barracks in Friedberg someday. Probably wont so I especially enjoyed your posted pictures especially of the evaporative cooling wall that was in the park in Bad Nuehiem. I had sat by it a number of times trying to shake off the affects of the Melody Bar!Thanks again Larry Barber

Web Manger's note:  is the "Hunter Kaserne" referenced above actually "Hutier Kaserne", or was there a Hunter Kaserne in Hanau?  Please drop me a line if you know more on this by clicking on this email hyperlink

I would like to know the whereabouts of CSMs McDonald, and Salter. There are 8 Salter addresses in FL,TX, WA, AL(2), AR, and CA. Too many McDonalds. He and I served in Hawaii in 63-64 in 2/9 FA, at Fort Sill, and then in Germany. Saw him at Fort Knox in early 90s, but nothing since. It's a small world, but sometimes not small enough.

I just submited yesterday, but what the heck. When I arrived at the reception stattion on Ft. Knox, KY, I had hair to my shoulders, another "Crute" whistled at me sarcastically, his name was JEFF HANSON, we were connected from that point on, at first I wanted to kick his A.., we ended up in Gelnhausen together, he in HHC 3-33 and I in A 3-33 then D (CAT Co.), we never really spent any time together, but we allways knew what was up with the other, until the Gulf, I believe that we became "blood brothers" during that time, I even kept in touch when I got stationed in Berlin and then Schweinfurt, the "long haired hippie" as a few of you might know him as while he worked as a Civilian in the Hanau Gymnasium, just disapeared one day about 4 years ago! I see his note on this site, but it is no good. CAN ANYONE FIND THAT BASTARD AND TELL HIM TO CONTACT ME!!! I am a Civilian now and living in Berlin, Germany and am the proud owner ot a Cocktail Bar called "MA-DEUCE" oohaahh!! Anyone who either hated or could barely tollerate me, is welcome and even encouraged to mail me. by the way, DAVE SEGREST is a Prison Guard in Fl. I Miss all the guys, Gelnhausen, and the strange nights in Sachsenhausen at the "Cottage". Take care fellas, (PICKEL'S SIR!) (MUSTANGS SIR!)

THERE'S NOT ENOUGH ROOM. SO MUCH WAS SO BAD AND YET, IT HAD TO BE SOME OF THE BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE. THE LONG LASTING FRIENDSHIP OF ONE PERSON WHOM I WAS IN HIS WEDDING AND HE IN MINE. THAT FRIENDSHIP IS NOW 16 YEARS OLD! HE SENT ME THIS INFO ON SPEARHEAD!!

IT WAS A RIGHT OF PASSAGE FOR SO MANY OF US. STUPID STUFF I GUESS BUT WHO CAN FORGET THE WHORE HOUSES AND SACHSENHOUSEN? (SPELLING?) I SAW BRUCE SPRINGSTEINS' BORN IN THE USA TOUR IN FRANKFURT IN '85.

MY FAVORITE TOWN, WETZLAR IS STILL BEAUTIFUL. I WAS THERE LAST IN '92 AND THE TRIANGLE BAR IN BUTZBACH NEVER REALLY OPEN TO GI'S BUT I HAD A MEMBERSHIP. IT WAS NICE TO GET AWAY FROM THE DUMB GRUNT THAT GAVE US ALL A BAD NAME.

BASICALLY THE OLD TIMERS WERE RIGHT. NO MATTER HAD BAD THINGS GOT OR WERE, IN THE END YOU ONLY REMEMBER THE GOOD. AND IT WAS AWFULLY GOOD. I COULD WRITE A BOOK.

Just some info to update your unit roster for 45th FSB

B Co Commander: CPT Jeffrey L. Knop Bn CSM: CSM Mark Barber Armament Technician: CW2 William A. Grimes Armament NCOIC: SSG Harry B. Anderson

Your site for B Co 45th FSB lists the wrong listings for it's MST's. We supported 2nd BDE so all the MST's should be listed as 3-8 Cav, 4-8 Cav 4-18 Inf and 4-82 FA.

Great site!!! More info to follow

I truly treasure my time with Spearhead. I commanded the 22nd Chem Co which was comprised of great american soldiers. I also played on the 3Rd AD Frankfurt American Rugby football Club which was by far the best American rugby club in Europe. I still have many friends from that time, in fact I was at the wedding of one this weekend and there were no less than 4 old 3AD FARC members there, some of whom i had not seen in years.

Spearhead !!!

The soldiers of the 3AD. What a history! So many years.

A thank you, to all the WWII 3AD soldiers, is just not enough. Their battles were almost beyond description. The victory they won is something so much more than from common times. And, the Desert Storm troops were GREAT, of such high quality.! A grateful country will be included in the history books.

Arriving to the 3AD in the early '70s….The EMs were a strange mix of draftees and MVA (Modern Volunteer Army). All the NCOs had completed their first tour in Nam, and so many had completed thier second tour. I remember looking for an Army, like the one I saw from the "world", ??

In the early 1970s?, the Finance section of the 503d Admin Co, became a separate company, called the 503d Finance Co. (At Drake) I remember that LTC A. J. Ruprecht, was the 3AD F&AO.

I recall that 503d ADMIN had a PSD (Personnel Service Det) unit at each Bdg HQs, that also included one Finance Rep from the 503d Finance Co. PSD-4 was in Hanau, with DIV ARTY. SFC Bayone was the lifer IC. SFC Williams was the H&HQB PSNCO at S1, who became 1SGT of the HQB.

Does anyone remember the commanders; COL Adams and COL B. Dody, of the 3AD DIV ARTY, in Hanau?

Do you remember Alabamas? We used to rock the house there.I was one of the bouncers there. It was a Rock Bar in saxonhausen. I really would love to hear from Jimmy Langdon, Darrin Sieber, Bobby, Mearle Hannah Woody, James Vinyard, Marty Anderson, And everyone else! One more thing… We only lost one soldier from 4/18 in Desert Storm. Cpl. Lindsay. I didnt know you very well brother, but I will never forget you. Later!

I have many great memories of my time in Germany. Sadly, I've lost touch with most of the people I served with. I would love to hear from you if we served together.

It was a honor to serve with the Ready First Brigade under Paul E. Funk II and his father Div. Commander Paul E. Funk. I was told he now works for General Dynamics in Turkey selling or something to do with the M-1 Abrams. Anyway if any of my old buddies see this please look me up in Arizona. Was originally assigned to B 1-36 IN in November of 1988, later redesignated as 5-18 IN, in Friedberg (Ray Barracks), Germany. Cpt Michael C. Cloy was the company commander for most of the time I was there. As a side note, he is now a battalion commander back at Friedberg. PCS'd just prior to DS to Ft Riley. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the following, give me a yell–SPC Mike Williams, SPC David Powers, SPC Wesley Clowers, PFC Paul (Blinky) Williams, PVT Ernie Love, SPC Frank Jarrell, SPC Steve Callison, SPC Rob Orr, PFC Fritze, PFC Byers, SFC Hendrix, SSG Soriano, SSG Livingston, or PFC George Healy. If anyone remembers SSG Kraft from E Co, he was my first platoon sergeant when I was assigned to Ft Campbell (1-187 Rakkasans). Also, SGT Sar, who was in A Co until after DS is now an instructor at SFAS at Camp Mackall, NC. I ran into him when I went to selection in APR-MAY 00.

Was assigned to a mobile assault bridge nicknamed "Easyrider". Spent time at the Combined Arms School learning more about demolitions. Was there when the racial riots broke out in the company D/E barracks in the Hessen-Homburg Kaserne. My room mates were Steve Otterson and Robert Newman. Was on levy to Vietnam shortly after the riots. Spent alot of time on guard duty at the motor pool and the NATO site guarding nuclear weapons. Spent alot of time on KP when I wasn't in the field or away at school. This pretty much sucked. In Vietnam I was first assigned to the 23rd Infantry Division with the 511th Engr. Co.Then was assigned to the 1st Cav with the 501st Engr. Co.

I doesn't surprise me that I never see any entries from my scout and mortar platoon buddies (literacy was never our greatest concern…) I expected a little more from the medics and mechanics though! Y'all had to be somewhat intelligent to do the jobs that y'all did (we, on the other hand, just played it by ear and tried to look good while we were screwing it up!!!).

Anyways, I'm just here to say "HOLA" to any of the distinguished freaks who used to party on the third floor (RM 306!!!!) and piss out the windows of the old barracks in Friedburg! (sorry about the dribble stains on your second floor windows Russ!).

Peace, Love, Rock-n-Roll!!!! nuge

Kirk Callesen hit on the nose when he said he left a piece of himself at "the Rock". Maybe it's because it was my first active duty station, but all my other experiences in the army, I compare to "the Rock". Whenever I think of my days in the army, my memories of "the Rock" are always my fondest. If anyone is looking for old buddies, go to www.military.com. I found several in less than a half hour. I couldn't have found them anywhere else. While your at it, check out www.11bravo.homestead.com.

It kinda of hit me the other day,why I joined the association and why I surf this guest book so often. I'm back again with those of my kind. When I say I spent three years on the "Rock" I really don't have to explain more than that. When I got short and ETS'ed off the "Rock" I felt very happy and yet as if I ws leaving a part of myself behind. In the years since everything I've done, and all the friends I've made always in one way or another have to compare themselves to that one experience in my life. I've been back to the "Rock" since leaving the Army (the last time in May 2000) looking for I don't know what; it just draws me. This website and the comments from fellow veterans make me feel as if what happened wasn't just to me alone but rather to us as a group (or should I say groups for there were many generations of Americans who keep the faith, and did their duty). I often tried to explain to my friends (civilian) what it was like, those three years. But, they couldn't or perhaps, would not ever to be able to understand ( or should I say FEEL) what it was like to drive a track in a blizzard, or run PT as a battalion or so many of the other things that we all did and experienced. There are few memorials to the losers in a war, and even less to the victors in a cold war. But we did it, we won, and I'm glad and proud to say I did my part. The "Rock" sits empty now; a parking lot for a local trucking company. The messhalls will never again be full of groups of hungry, rowdy men making conversation waiting for their turn through the chow line. The very life that made the "Rock" the place that it was will never be back and I for one am sad. The "Rock" is dead; long live the "Rock". Kirk Callesen CSC 3/36 Inf Scout Plt. "Scouts Out"

I served as the Air Battle Management Operations Center (ABMOC) NCOIC. It was a pleasure to watch what I beleive were three Great Generals; FUNK, FRANKS, and BLACKWELL. I had the honor to watch them plan each attack until the cease fire was called. I kept a very good account by the hour of each battle and conversations I heard from all of the three great Generals that planned our Victory from the 3 AD TAC Forward (577 tracks). Webmaster, Thanks for the memories and thanks for keeping us in touch…SPEARHEAD!!!!

Started my affiliation with the "Spearhead" Division as it's DIVARTY S-2 in Aug. '88. Reassigned to HHC, 533d MI Bn as Asst S-3, ADVON OIC for DS/DS, OIC of the Battlefield Deception Element, last Company Commander of and deactivating B CO (Surveillance, Interrogation and Counterintelligence), 533d MI Bn. Am incredibly proud of my service to our nation during that time frame and would welcome any contact from any of my former superiors, peers or subordinates.

I was probably known most for my bitching. I was a tanker and did not want to be driving a truck while a war going on around me. I was probably the only dumbass to receive an Article 15 while we were deployed. Some other people in support platoon were; MSG McCann- plt sgt., short man but he could get fired up. Spc4 Tom McCall-drove a fuel HMMT. Hell of a friend, Spc4 Scottie Mcminn-drove a fuel HMMT. Meanest & toughest SOB on the face of this earth. He was a great guy though. SPC4 KElly R. Brandon- drove a cargo HMMT. Cool guy quiet but very dependable. I hope he made it to the big time singing and rapping. SPC4 ? first name Donald- drove a cargo HMMT. He was a rowdy Texan. Cpl Flemming- drove a cargo HMMT. Nice guy. Fucker went AWOL when we got back to Germany. Spc4 Kelly- drove a cargo HMMT. NIce guy, a litle on the strange side. Sgt Bruce- squad leader and drove a cargo HMMT. Great guy. He really cared about the folks around him. So many others that I can picture but i can't recall their names. Spc4 Timothy Pratt- drove a cargo HMMT. Hell of a guy. Crazy nut from Tennessee who thankfully found some of his own kind at KKMC who kept us supplied with homemade wine. Poor guy's wife hauled ass with their daughter while we were deployed to gulf.

Still hoping to hear from some of the people I served with at the rock. If anybody knows the whereabouts of Francisco Curiel, Erik Wallock, James Kearns, Charles Cue, Mike Idler, Robert(Ranger Bob) Atkison, Creature Vidal, or any of the scouts from 84 to 87, tell them to drop me a line. While I was there, I couldn't wait to PCS and get back home to round door knobs and the rest of the world, but would love dearly now to go back and see everything. Does anybody remember the Italian cafe near the movie theater in Butzbach, man they served good food! Sure could use a cold Giessener Brauhouse Pilsner and a shot of Applekorn right about now. Scouts out, don't believe it, ask your wife.

I was never in the service, but we were stationed at Pioneer Kaserne in the mid '80s with our father. He was the CSM of what was then called the 85th Maint. Bn. We lived in Sportsfield, and then Old Argonner. (forgot how to spell that, sorry.) Was a great time for a dependant in high school years.

My grandfather, William Howard Zimmerman, was in 3AD, 7th Tank Bn, during WWII,at Battle of the Bulge. He died in 1978. We know very little of his war record, because he wouldn't talk about it with his wife or any of his kids; one thing he mentioned to my mother was liberating a concentration camp. His 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren would be very pleased to find out anything about this division and battalion. Our grandfather was a great man who should be remembered. Thanks. After viewing the soldiers that have listed themselves I obviously have lost track of my former unit as well as the members during 1968-1970. I served in Co. B 1/48th Inf for about a year then in the Battalion S-3 shop for the remainder of my tour. I am wanting to find those that I served with and also what happened to the 48th Infantry. A few of the names I remember are Bill Vassar, Jim McGinty, George Thomas, 1SG Love and LTC Hilbert. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who served with me or in the unit. "BLOOD & GUTS"

My family has been contacted regarding this website, and I am quite impressed. My dad, BG Charles J. Girard, died in VN and was "Third Herd" all the way. We miss him very much, and it's touching to realize he is still remembered by some. Dad was Army all the way, and no matter what the assignment, he gave it his all. Through this site, my family will probably learn more about just what Dad did when we were little kids. I think my mother will be touched too; it will bring back many memories as she was beside him all the way…beginning with their first meeting during WWII, when she was a Capt. and he was a Major. I know this site will take a lot of work, but I think it's great. Thanks.
