Greetings to any former "Dragons" out there! Also to my fellow officers, OBC classmates, and other friends who I met while I was in the 3AD.

The 3rd Cav,left Fort Mead and we went to Baumholder Germany during the "Berlin Problems." I was a Tanker and spent most of my time driving something. We spent a lot of time in the field.Graf/Viealsack/Fular-gap and Nato alerts.I was there when JFK was killed. He had been to our company and a parade just before he was killed. We had a full nato alert because it was felt that maybe Russia/Cuba was behind it.I just had to get this computer and try to talk to some of my old buddies. We tankers never die,we just go into netural steer.10/4>>RG

I sure wish I could go back and relive my days with the 3AD. I hated it then and could not wait to get back to the states. I didn't realize what a good time I was having. I miss going to Sachsenhausen and to the KaiserStr!!! I went back in 99 and took the Strassenbahn route from my apartment to Drake kaserne, went to John's, which is now a Korean Restaurant. Sure brought back alot of memories. What ever happened to 1SG Dave Collard?

Like a lot of others, trained with 2nd Armored at Fort Hood, then school at APG, then 1-1/2 years as a mechanic in Hq/A Co, 122 Ordnance at Fleigerhorst Kaserne, commanded at the time by Capt. "Tommy the Tiger" Smith. Managed to get my wife over there, we lived (survived, really) off post in Ruckingen. Like most other draftees, I didn't want to be there, but wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Best time: Spent most of the summer '59 on a roving roadside inspection team, stopping and inspecting Division vehicles. We tried our damndest to nail Elvis in his Jeep, came close, but never managed it. A few names I recall: Bernie Puplava, Jim DeNino, Chuck Hamm, Bill(?) Stacy, John(?) Marcucci, Ben (?) Acierto, and a guy from Alabama named Tucker; also a lot of faces I can no longer put a name to. Great to find this website, brought back a lot of memories.

So, where's everyone from the C&E (formerly and better known as EMP) platoon, especially the Wire/TTY squad? Oliver? Penberthy? Stockley? You guys out there? I still see TV documentaries on Desert Storm and each one seems to showcase a different aspect of the war. It's very interesting to watch them now because I could finally learn what the heck was going on around us at that time in the desert and back in CONUS. Well, let's find out whether this here log will help to reunite any of the ol' gang.

Am seeking names of 3AD vets who were in the Division during the last 2 weeks of October, 1962. This was during the Cuban Crisis. Pres. Kennedy had put all US forces worldwide on alert. During that time Berlin was quiet, so the concern was about a possible Soviet sponsored “incident” to either distract from or to counter the situation going on near Cuba, and the best candidate for that was in the Fulda area. Maybe a nice “accidental” Border crossing by a Soviet armor(ed) battalion or two, supposedly strayed from some ad hoc/impromptu maneuver. Maybe they could later claim that the people of Fulda invited them over to save them. Here’s a partial account from that time by Dave Melton, who was in HHC, 3AD (3rd Armored Div Headquarters Co.) at Drake Kaserne, Frankfurt: “We were restricted to our kaserne and the vehicles were all loaded and lined up ready to pull out. We drew our M14s and kept them with us during the whole time; we even slept with them. We could only go to work, the mess hall, the movie theater, or the barracks. This lasted a couple of weeks, I think. When it first started we didn’t really think too much of it because we didn’t know all the details. AFN and Stars & Stripes only told us what the brass wanted us to know. A few days into it one of our guys from Florida got a phone call in the orderly room from his wife back in CONUS. He thought someone had died. His wife said she wanted to talk to him one more time in case the balloon went up.”

When the train arrived at Gelnhausen Bahnhof from Hanau or Frankfurt, the conductor or PA stated something along the following lines: "Gelnhausen!, Gelnhausen!, Bitte aussteigen!" For some, this was a catchy phrase to be repeated to others at unusual times … such as when coming back onto Post through the main gate following an FTX.

Its great to see so many hits on the site, it'd be even better to get more members. I was in a & d company's 23rd Engr, HHC DIVARTY, HHC HMC, Berlin Brigade, and tne 11th Cav. I don't see many Engineers out there the tankers, cannon cockers & ground pounders could say all they wanted about who leads & who goes first – til a mine field, a bridge out or another obstacle appeared – "essayons"!! This is a great site & I love reading all the messages from all ranks, mos' etc – we have a lot more in common than I think we'll ever know. For any one who was stationed in Hanau – I just got an E-mail from a German pal. Hutier, Francois & Hessen homburg Kasernes are gone, leveled – housing now. If there is anyone out there who remembers a crazy sob named Spalding (me) drop me a line.

I was stationed at Hutier Kasserne from January of 1986 until December of 1987. I can remember all those cold and lonely nights trying to stay warm and keep the others out of my "POGIE BATE" out in the field at Graff. I was in Headquarters Battalion 2-6 FA (Centaur!) for the first year and a half and then tranferred to DIVARTY for my final six months in country. I was a 63B (mechanic) and was always proud of my gamma goats and m151s. Also, I recall, watching the FISTERS call fire from the mm109s and the A-10 Thunderbolts while in Graff. Some of my old buddies: Stewart Shipp, James Smith, Tony Martinez, Dan Faith, Mendoza, Donna Skinner. Are you guys out there? I'd Like to hear from you.

Jim, I don't know why out of 37,000 hits this website receives, only 150 people have joined the assoc. I for one am proud to have served in the 3rd AD and I'm glad to be apart of the assoc. This website gets a majority of my time on the net. For years I looked for ways to get in touch with my old unit and thru ya'll I've found quite a few old 4-7 cav troopers. Keep up the good work.

I understand how you can feel inferior to those who faced real combat when you like myself did not. I don't pretend to be equal to those brave men who faced real gunfire because I never did and have no way of knowing how I would have stood up to that kind of real life hell. But I can assure you that I have been accepted with open arms by every vet I have ever spoken to in this association who has been in combat. I think to hold them in that kind of respect is proper. But remember this, the purpose of the Veterans Association and the Museum and Archives is to keep alive the memory of what the people of this great division did for future generations. If the membership is limited to only those who served with her in combat, there would not be enough people left to support the work here. If you don't join because you feel unworthy to stand beside those who served in combat, join to help keep the memory alive of those who served and died protecting this country as part of the 3d Armored Divsion.

To all who served during peace time. Think about it! Why were we at peace? Beacuse you were their to give our foes some thing to think about. If we had not placed ourselves on the line then their would have been war a lot sooner then then later. You are indeed veterans in every sence of the word. So be proud of your service and join this fine orgination.

This is directed towards an veteran who was not join our association because you feel that your service was not worthy of the label "veteran" because you were not involved in a long killing war. that is not true. Sensible Americans realize that when you leave our country to go overseas as a service man or woman, you are placing your life on the line. This has been true for many years. At one time we were respected anywhere in the world, now we are hated in many, many parts of the world. Our current peace keeping troops are on dangerous ground just aa the troops of the Cold War and those who went to the middle East for the Persian Gulf War were. All of you are veterans and by supporting this web site you will become one of those helping to make Americans aware of the honor you deserve for serving your country.

I have been quite facinated and excited that this website exists. My grandfather was part of WWII in the 3rd, 67th Field Artillery. He doesn't have access to a computer, nor would he attempt to use it, so I check every few months and print anything of interest and send it to him. I would like to see pictures of Camp Polk's barracks and other buildings. If anyone has these, please get in contact with me. Also, the book about Spearheaders that's featured on a webpage here doesn't lead to the contents as the page says it does. I would really like to read this publication. Please let me know how I can find this!!!

Hats off to you guys. I really think you're wonderful for putting soooo much work into this website – it must be 10 times harder than anyone imagines it is!! Thank you very much.

My ex-husband and I were in Hanau from September 1975 through August of 1977. These are approximate dates. We loved it there. Everyone at Pioneer did all that they could to make our time there wonderful! i was saddened when the time came for us to return to the states. I can say with all honesty that a day never goes by that I don't think of Hanau and Pioneer Kasern with a smile! Please continue to make all Americans serving there feel like home is not so far away.

Looking for any information on LOGISTICS/CSS in 3rd AD. I am now a QM officer and an instructor for the QM/OD/TC/MS/AV Advanced Course (now called CLC3) and field many questions about CSS in the Gulf. I was a tank platoon leader back then and HAVE NO CLUE what/how CSS operated. Heck, I thought 45th FSB was organic to 2nd BDE, didn't know what a DISCOM was, etc. Welcome comments from anybody with information on how the fight was supported, any figures/estimates on fuel consumption, what Corps CSS units supported us, etc. Many thanks. I was the ONLY 96B (Intelligence Analyst)during my tour. I served in "The Gulf" for 6 mos. during the war. My BN CDR during that time was LTC (now COL) DANA ROBERTSON. I ran into our section's former 577 (Command Track) driver, JORGE VALLESFERRO, on a couple of TDY's I made to Ft. Buchannan, P.R. He is in the P.R. National Guard; is married and has a son. I now work at the Pentagon in the Foreign Intell Watch/AOC. I came here in Sept. 99 after serving as the only Equal Opportunity Advisor in Panama and Latin America. Prior to that and after Germany, I went to the 10th MTN DIV, 10th AVN BDE, where I deployed to Somalia twice, and deployed on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Eishenhower when we went to Hati (whew!). So now I am a desk-pogue at the Pentagon staring at a computer screen and delivering the "Black Book" to the Army powers-that-be.

Looking for my fellow German-American Henry Eggert. Hank, are you out there? (Hank was a clerk in 48th Infantry Battalion HQ @ Coleman Kaserne, Gelnhausen … he was obliged to get 7th Army clearance to go visit his relatives near Coburg, since it was close to the Border.) I was on Post before Hank – I got there in Sept ’62. I recall in late 1962 that the 2 Germans handling the (German) telephone exchange equipment on Post were Kurt K. and Heinz B. Kurt had been an officer in German Army on Eastern Front (Russia); Heinz had been a member of a Tiger Tank crew & was captured by the “Amis” (one way some Germans refer to Americans) in Normandy. Heinz was driving a US Army ¾ ton truck with a big white star on the door when I knew him – a different drive than a Tiger Tank. German WW2 vets divided up U.S. GIs into 2 groups: those with whom they would talk about the war & those they wouldn’t. Since I was pretty young (19), I think the only reason they talked to me was after learning that my Grandpa, Karl Martin, was from “down the road” about 60 miles. (Grandpa’s village, Herrenzimmern, is located near a straight map line drawn between Bad Mergentheim and Rothenberg o.d. Tauber; Grandpa’s twin sister stayed in Germany & he signed over the family house to her in Jan ’33 when their mother died.) 2 of my mother’s first cousins were in Wehrmacht Heer (WW2 German Army); my Second Cousin Eberhard L. was a Luftwaffe Colonel (one of his grandfathers was Karl Martin’s oldest brother – there’s 35 years age difference between me and Eberhard.) Eberhard was saved from the Russians at the end of the War by a US Army Air Force Major – Eberhard had been on the Eastern Front. Lastly, anyone recall the name of the big German kid who was in the 48th Infantry scouts in early 1960s? He later became the Post Interpreter (Armband & all) … he married one of the American Service Club girls at Gelnhausen.

I was a member of the tripple three armor when we won the Canadian Army Trophy. It was a hell of a deal at the time as it hadn't been won by an American unit in 27 years. The M1Abrams kicked their ass, on every shot. Later I think the Persian Gulf War proved that to the rest of the world. Leon Wilkinson

I'm sending this on behalf of my dad who served as 33rd Armor regiment sgt major while he was stationed in Gelnhausen Germany [1957 to 1959]. He subscribes to the Army Times in hopes of tracking down some of his 'Men of War' buddies. Thought this cyberspace approach might help him expedite his search. Names of his buddies that pop into my head are Rossiter, Pamplin, Kirk, Crosby, Fleener and other who threw back a few Hennigers down at Alphonso's Foxhole…the bane of 33rd wives! Also I'm looking for fellow brats from Gelnhausen who might be also be helping their dads. Fellow brats include Luther Lewis, Eddie Kirk, Anthony Gresham, Terry Means, Paul Dodson, Larry Kerr, Herbie Duncan, and Paul Ortiz among others whose names I have sadly forgotten. I know you're all out there somewhere! Check in.

I think you have a great webpage and want to thank you for all of the work you've done on it! My unlce was a proud 3d Armored Division vet. I saw a comment in a military website guestbook from a fellow who'd just read that new WWII novel, "THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY" and recommended it highly. Always eager to read about military history, I got a copy from barnesandnoble.com and thought it was just terrific. The novel is a stirring story of courage and dedication to doing what is right, no matter what the cost. I was happy to have been told about the book, so I'm passing on the word whenever I visit a veteran's website. But enough about that, my only suggestion for your page is to add more of the kind of stuff you already have. If something isn't broke it doesn't need fixing. Keep up the good work!

Webmasters note: This website is dedicated to the history of the 3d Armored Division. During the Korean War, the 3d Armored Division did not serve overseas. Instead, it was a basic training unit at Fort Knox Kentucky. The Korean War was really out of the scope of covering the divisions history, and thus is not showcased on this website. For those interested in Korean War history on the web, we suggest starting with a site such as www.koreanwar.org

My Dad, Kenneth C. Speers is a WW11 veteran (1st Army 3rd Armored Div.) "SREARHEAD" and I have some of his things that he captured from the mayor's office of Auchen Germany in 1944, with all the talk about WW11 I was wondering if there might be a place for this stuff.

started my military service as combat engineer in the states but when shipped to Germany I was assigned to the Hq.Co.3-32 armour 4.2in. mortar pltn.as a track driver/asst.gunner.I really enjoyed the chance to see a lot of Germany from the drivers seat of the gun track and through tours that were also offered.I started at Ray Barks. then was transferred to Frankfort to become a stockade guard for a few months then back to Friedberg to finish my hitch with Uncle Sam.Any old 4.2" mortar men out there that served with me drop me a line. One of these days I would like to go back and see how things have changed over the past 30 odd years.

It has been so many years ago, I can remember only that I took Basic training at Fort Knox. I spent two years in the Army and was bounced from one unit to another. I also served in the 44th Inf. Div., the 2nd. (Indianhead)Inf.Div., as well as the 2nd. Army in Fort Lewis Washington on my way to Korea. We never made it there. I do remember one outfit I was in. The 564th FA Btln.

This is a great site! I was looking for a patch and insignia to go into a shadow box, and decided to look into what was going on with my old unit. Guess I am a little late. Would'nt happen to know where I can locate a, (can't remember the exact name), shoulder pin? Use to wear them on the shoulder flaps on the dress uniform. The 143d had one with the lion on it I believe, and of course it was Signal Orange… Anyway, keep up the good work! I am going to bookmark this page and will check back often.

hello RED LIONS and CAT TEAM 89 troops. I'd like to hear from some of my old friends. I'm still in touch with MacClellan and Dillow. Remember the Fifty and the Welcome Inn? Don't walk on the parade field! I sure could use a gyros from Ullies. Why did we have to listen to the national anthem before every movie? Seargeants time sucked! Iwish there was a fantasy camp for old tankers to go out and tear up some ground. Nothing can ever beat the German-American festival in Butzbach.

Looking for friends from 4/8 Cav,that served at Coleman Kaserne, in Gelnhausen from 88-92. The cold weeks at Graf could do nothing to dampen the friendships we made, but the years have sent us to the corners of the earth. I'm back in Illinois now. Also looking for army buddies for my uncle, Carl Strehmann, who served 3AD valiantly during WWII in Germany.

Hello,

We are Elske (15 years old) and Evelien (16 years old) and we are two girls from Dordrecht, the Netherlands.

We are doing a research for a schoolassignment about the Liberation in 1945. We have to research the World War II and liberation experiences of civilians and soldiers during the period 1944-1945. We have to interview veterans and survivors.

The aim of the project is to assemble an oral history of American and other Allied participation in the liberation of the Netherlands during World War II, as well as the courage and endurance of the Dutch people.

If you are a World War II veteran or survivor or if you know a World War II veteran or survivor or if you have got any information that might be useful for the assignment, please let us know by sending us a letter or an e-mail. Also, if you are the editor of a newsletter or if you know a newsletter and if you think we could publish a little ad about our assignment, please let us know as well. Thank you so much.

I was initially assigned to Hq 2/32 Armor, then to Brigade when the chaplains were taken out of the battalions.

In 1971, I moved to Canada, and in 1978 joined the Canadian Forces as a Chaplain, serving until mandatory retirement in 1992. I have since worked with the Army Cadet organization as chaplain for one of their largest camps, Vernon Army Cadet Camp, 1993-1997.

I have a special interest in military professional ethics and have given presentations at JSCOPE, the Canadian Defence Ethics Conference, the CF Command and Staff College, etc.

I would liketo locate Lt. Ed Underwood, 2/32 Armor, if possible.

I joined the Division at Fort Knox in September 1955. Originally assigned to the Headquarters Tank Section, I was attached to Battalion Personnel to process the dependents for the move to Germany. After our arrival at Ray Barracks I was permanently assigned to Battalion Personnel as the Officers' Records Clerk. I served in that position until I returned to CONUS in May of 1957 for separation from the Army.

Two years later, November 1959, I returned to the Division at 1st. Brigade, Kirch Goens, as the Red Cross Field Director. I remained in that position for 5 years and rotated to CONUS (Fort Sheridan, IL) in November 1964.

Anyone left standing on there feet or able to sit up and take nourishment from A-Btry 2/27 FA at RAY BARRACKS 1978-1980???? I know some of us are gone but not all! Maybe everyone is retired and laying on a beach with millions in der bank and the Army long forgotten? Wish it were me Bro's!!! Im not that lucky. I am the single father of two fine kids (Mama's long gone) and have to put my all into life just to keep the bills paid. Its been much harder for me the last 20 years than the Army ever could be. Looking back with 20/20 hindsight I should have stayed in the Army and retired by now!!! Maybe our country will have another civil war someday soon and I can rise like the Phoenix out of the ashes, gain control of the partisans and kick A!!! Remember…Gen. U.S. Grant resinged from the Army and failed at everything he tryed. He even failed at selling firewood in the streets! Then came the civil war and grant put his hat back in the ring and never looked back!!! I am ready and willing to lead this countrys sons to victory!!! So any commanders out there remember if the "S" hits the fan in the western Michigan area please dont forget you got a "Grant" just waiting for your order to attack!!!

As a senior in the school of architecture at Syracuse University and designing a Military History Museum for my thesis I find it both important and informative to find such websites as yours that indicate the importance for the recollection of this nations military and it's influence and significance that may not always be realized by those of whom are not associated with or understand it's pertinence. I'm particlarly interested in this importance may be communicated architecturally and although I believe the rendering provided for the new museum may not fully do your cause justice I am very interested in what will be put on display and intrinsically how this may differ from other museum -military and otherwise.

Thank you – for you time and I hope this website will be continually updated as progress is made.

Looking any old buddies from Buedingen. When 3AD started to draw down prior to Desert Shield, my unit was the first one in the Division to deactivate. When ODS hit, alot of us were sent to 5/3 ADA, 8th Inf. We were the unit which deployed to the Gulf in support of 3AD. while the rest of the unit packed up, and PCS'd back to the states.

I FOUND THE GELNHAUSEN TOURIST PAGE AND IT BROUGHT BACK FOND MEMORIES. I ARRIVE AT COLEMAN KASERNE AS AN 18YR. OLD PRIVATE FIRST CLASS AND LEFT A SPECIALIST WHO SERVED IN A FINE UNIT. I LEARNED TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT, WHAT COMARADERIE IS, AND HOW TO TAKE A PUNCH TO HUMBLE ONE'S OUTLOOK. GREAT PAGE! i WILL SEND IT TO MY FRIEND WHO ALSO SERVE WITH THE SCOUT PLATOON OF 1-48 AND 4-18IN. BLOOD AND GUT! VANGUARDS!

just like to say hello again. I have recently seen my former c.o. Ctp J. Antal on the "History channel" doing a military documentry. I hope that someone out there would know his e-mail address. I sure would like to here from him. To the rest of the platoon, I want to say hello like, John Kidwell who wrecked his yellow p/u in Germany,(did you ever get it back?) Clyde Stauffer (shorty) Sgt Doritsky, Big Al Burnnett (gunner) for "Winstons" tank. Remember we qualified for the CAT run?. Anyway I hope to hear from some of you soon take care God bless sp4 E Perez

I just wanted to take a minute and say "HEY" to the guys from the Scout and Mortar platoons… but I could never forget to say hey to our mechanics and medics… Tell me, has anyone ever been to a wilder party than a barracks party… more beer and booze than humanly possible, louder music than is allowed by law… Scout platoon 2/67 AR was like "Animal House", but with guns!!!!

Looking back, I now know some of my best memories are of 3AD, the 45th, and 23rd Engineers. I just wish I'd been mature enough then to realize what a great opportunity I had. I was a cook for the 45th and have very strong memories of my fellow cooks and of the long, long days and nights in the field at the Friedberg Woods, Graf, and Hohenfels. I'd like to hear from others who might have been there with me … I married mechanic Lee Rogers in '78. We are since divorced but are friends.

I did not serve with 3AD, however I have served twice in the 32nd Armor Regiment, once as a Tank Company CDR during Desert Shield (3-32 AR) and once as the Battalion XO of 1-32 AR. Can provide some details, also of interest is one of the more famous pictures to come out of the Gulf War was that A/ 3-32 AR. VR, Pete

Spent most of my time in D/23rd Engr. Was also in A Co & HHC, as well as attached to the 11th ACR, HHC DIVARTY, HHC HMC, 5th Panzer Div, etc(they move you around alot when you have an inoperable hernia for 2 years as a SSG and speak fluent German). Lots of memories in all of your notes, Lamboystrasse, the Rock, Graf, Hohnfels, Wildflecken etc. Funny how we forget the bad times & revel in the good!!!

Those were the best years of my life, literally. I lived in HHC barracks on Edwards Kaserne, and later switched over to A Co. Then the division deactivated and I went to 141st Signal, 1AD in Bad Kreuznach. It was never as fun as Frankfurt, though. I was a SPC- 76C. Now I am working on graduate studies in history. Would love to hear from anyone in the unit. I'll bet Kitty is still over at John's, stealing cigarettes from the customers…

It's been a long time. When you're there, you think your the only one that's pulled time on the "ROCK". After reading the listings of all that have served before and after, it's very humbling.

I would be very interested in hearing from MIKE HARDMAN, FLORIDA?, DOUG DRAKE, OHIO? AND ROBERT GEYER, FLORIDA?.

Here it is nine years later and I still think about the days in Germany. I miss the people and places and all the fun we had. I was in the JAG office under LTC Squires then LTC Burton. Other JAG soldiers were Jo Arnold, Robin Alward, Alan Reichart, Kurt Gross, Amanda Meek, Richard Shaw, Robert Alderman, Joy Dobbs, The Bercutts, SFC Tomlinson and many others. Where are all you HHC 3AD people? I miss John's food and Kitty the waitress. What about all the partying in Sachsenhausen?! Drop me a line.

I am trying to dig up some 80's 3AD pictures, to whom shall I mail them? I don't have a scanner – so normal mail will have to do. Any info on Spearhead memoriabilia especially 23rd Engre Bn Unit Insignia? Thanks, Dave

Looking for some of the guys from HHC from 67-68. Some of you guys played Softball with me in Kirch Goins (THE ROCK)for Lt. McGowin CO. HHC. We were the 2nd Brigade Champs!  I know you guys are out there. I was a radio operator in S-3.I lived on the second floor near the maintenance bay, across from the showers. The first CO. was Capt. Angelli. When he left it was LT. McGowin. He's the one who organized the Softball Team. We had Red Caps with a Ranger Tab on it. we actually won the Brigade Championship, but lost the next round to those Air Force guys on base who did nothing all day. The Battilion CO. was Lt. Col. Long. I remember those losy alerts about twice a week. Also how can you ever forget those winter vactions in Graf. The best part of "The Rock" was the EM Club. So if Buddy Faircloth,Herbert Collins, Denny Krochell, or Sgt. Stock are still sober from the "Lischer Beer" drop me a line. If you don't you wiil be banished to spend a week in Kirch Goins(The Town).

I'd really like to hear from any HHC 1st BDE (88-90) guys if you're out there – Dempsey, Vollonweider, Mikey with the dragon tattoos, Don Brant, if any of you read this send me an email. See ya, Buntz

Anyone out there from good old A-battery 2/27 Ray Barracks late 70's early 80's! Remember the red plastic "ZERO STAT" gun we used to call "TOPS WRINKLE GUN". Good old TOP Galloway! (DER WRINKLE-MIESTER). Not many old boys from 2/27 out there from our time. FTA!!!! Remember "BOOM-BOOM" BETTIS? Hes dead! Drank himself to death. "The Big Bird" got shot and died in Chicago over crack. "The D.J." got shot and died in "LA-LA Land". "The CREATURE" shot himself and is gone too! "DADDY J" did himself too via gunshot! Lots of head cases came out of that era. Its not the 3 AD's fault. Those guys were setting themselves up for a fall way back in 1979. Life goes on! Lets hear some good stuff! We all know the bad. I guess this proves that ya cant take highly trained killers and name takers and not give them a war to fight. Im not shure its all out of me yet either but I just take it a day at a time bro's! Know what I mean?!

I am a WW II veteran who has already joined the Third Armored Division veterans. The reason for this is to urge any one reading this, who is elgible, to join the Association. Many have joined in order to lend their support. The Association is, as you can see, presenting on the Internet, a web site which will show the American public of the history and honor of the Division. Join us, please. I would enjoy answering any questions or just chatting with anyone, especially WW II vets.

Just thought I'd pass along this info I received from my former Plt. Sargent who retired from the Army and works for the PX system in Giessen. He lives in Lang Goens, which as many of you remember is not that far from the 'Rock'. It follows: "The front gate to the rock is locked but the back gate is opened but I think only for the German Army. There is a guard anyway. Someone gets in because many of the windows you can see are broken out. Many of the old Kasernes have not been accepted by the German Government because of oil contamination, not enough drip cans I guess!!! I have heard they are building a new commissary and PX complex in Giessen, behind the old PX where there were motor pools for a maint unit before. Before they can do any construction they must do a 2Million dollar clean up of the area, kinda like tent city in graff where we had to dig up around the tent pads but they have to take out all of the soil down to 1.5Meters, Decontaminate it and return it then they can begin construction, they say they will begin in the spring. Yes the rock is just a bunch of buildings setting in the middle of nowhere. I have heard that a company that build a logistics wearhouse down at the corner where the light was bought half of the land for the railhead but I dont know. When you go past the back gate there is a sign that indicates there is a German ordenance company in there, I think they are using the ammo storage area. They are building a high speed living complex where schloss Kaserne was in Butzbach. Its going to be real nice and they made them save the old part of the castle, it will be offices and shops .I think I saw they are putting in 153 living units there." It may sound a little garbled because I'm taking this info from two separate e-mails. Anyway, I just thought you'all would like to know. Scouts Out Kirk 'Cal' Callesen CSC 3/36 Inf. Recon Plt. Squad Leader 2nd Sqd 1st Plt Co B 23rd En Bn PSG 3rd Plt Co B 23rd En Bn Ops Sgt Co B 23rd En Bn (Desert Storm)

in the 3-5 Cav section the Engineer slice is incorrectly listed, the squad with the scouts was 1st Sqd 1st Plt Co B 23rd En Bn NOT from 12th En Bn. 12th En Bn was the Bn under the RFCT, the 23rd En Bn chopped Co B to them. Co B minus the 2nd Plt was part of TF 3-5 for the entire operation from January 1991 in the initial AA through the redeployment bact to Germany.

As you make entries into the guestbook. Please keep in mind that sometimes people might read it far into the future. A few entries ahead of this one, a gentlemen is trying to find an old friend. If you want to be found, it is important to keep updating your e-mail address. I have had over 20 people I tried to contact who made an entry during the past 6 months and their e-mail address was no longer any good.

The years I served in the Division were without any dought the best of my 18 years. It was a sad day & cerimony at Fleigerhorst airfield when the colors were retired.

This was truly a pleasure finding this site on the internet. Althought the pictures are dated, the memories are the same for me because it hadn't really changed. It was a time in my life when that holds both pleasent and disturbing memories but all in all I wouldn't trade it for anything. My time in this brigrade was a milestone in my life and the training sustained me farther than in the battlefield. Thank you.
