Save the Date! November 4-7, 2021

A3ADV Warning Order!
Save 4-7 NOV for reunion

At long last, it appears that we are beginning to see signs of light at the end of the COVID tunnel and your board has established November 4 – 7, 2021 as the dates for our next gathering. Please save the dates and begin to make plans to attend this reunion because it will be one of the best ever with red carpet treatment at our nation's capital.

The schedule will include a welcome to the Pentagon by the Chief of Staff of the Army, or one of his designated deputies. And, yes, the buses will be able to disembark a lot closer than the outer reaches of the parking lot. We will be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to remember those Spearheaders who made the ultimate sacrifice. We will visit the Women in Military Service to America memorial where a beloved, departed member of our Association, Lani Tucker, will have her portrait become an integral part of the Changing Faces of Courage exhibit.

Our itinerary also will take us to the brand spanking new US Army museum, where we will dedicate our unit plaque which has been installed on the Walk of Valor. At all locations, we will be received as a VIP veterans group and will be shown special honors and courtesies.

Obviously, we have learned much from recent reunions and we fully appreciate that most of our members come to reunions for the purpose of seeing old friends, rekindling old memories, and meeting new comrades. As with our last gathering in New Orleans, there will be ample time built into the schedule to enjoy the “Rally Point” and visit with your fellow Spearheaders. It’s also exciting to know that we will be joined by many notables in the Division’s past who have already indicated their intention to be in attendance.

Let me close with a few observations about reunions and the effort that goes into them. They just don’t occur and it takes tremendous work to successfully pull one off. It’s far more than just picking a location and wishing that everything will simply fall into place. This reunion has now been two years in the planning and has taken more twists and turns than you can imagine due to the pandemic.

We all owe a great deal of gratitude to both the Board and the Reunion Committee, headed by Chris Ginther, for their efforts on our behalf. For the last several years, I have been pushing for more member involvement in the affairs of the Association, including reunion planning. So, plan on joining us at this reunion. Let your voices be heard, and then give action to words by volunteering to help. As us Airborne types say, "Stand in the door."
