It went from a company and grew into a Btln. known as DASB. The name then changed to 9-227th ASB and was commanded by COL Townsend and CSM Daniels First_name: Paul CommentsFirst_name: Travis CommentsI was assigned to HHC 1 48 from May of 1987 until March of 1989 when I was transfered to B Co 1 48. I know we changed to 4 18 IN I think in June of 1989. When I got to Gelnhausen, arriving fresh from Basic and AIT at Fort Benning, GA, I was suprised that I was pulled for duty in S-1 instead of going to a line company. LTC John Everson was the BN Co when I got there and CMS Emerson was one hell of a Sergeant Major! Folks from S-3 kept things rolling along like SFC Soules and MAJ Brian Haig. When things got a little hairy out in the TOC while we were in the field SFC Soules always kept us laughing. We used to make runs from the ALOC to the TOC and it seems like those S-3 guys were always laughing about something hahahahaha. Great Fellas! While I was assigned to HHC I worked in the S-1 shop as their M577A2 driver and performed whatever other duties they could think of. We went through NET for the Bradley in early 1988 and my MOS was changed from 11B to 11M. While in HHC I had some great room mates, Ben King, Guy Kerbey and William Seton. We got on each other's last nerve every once in a while but what can you expect when you put 4 soldiers in a room? Everybody I came in contact with during my time in HHC and B Co, as well as the rest of the battalion were really stand up folks! I had a great time once I finally made it to B Co in March of 1989. At that time Lt Col StOnge was the BN Co and B Co CO was Capt Mark Hayhurst who left and was replaced by Capt Anthony Phillips. Our 1SG was John Henson, but then he left also and was replaced by SFC Lewis. I was assigned to 1st Platoon Bandits with SFC John Santiago (now retired CSM)as the Plt Sgt. Some of the other 1st Plt guys were SFC Samuel Miller, SFC David Cabanilla, SSG George Leonty, Sgt Bridwell, SSG Joyner and the list could go on. SFC Mark Mello, now retired 1SG, the 3rd Plt Sgt was also a really great guy as was SSG Ed Gould who retired from the Army last year as a MAJ I believe. Some things I won't miss about Gelnhausen are the block haus and cabbage patch runs. Running through a patch of rotten cabbage after harvest season was a little rough on the senses at 0600, especially when that smell was mixed with the gin and heffe weizen that was pouring out in every drop of sweat hahahahaha! I wish I had back every DM I spent on bier at the Blue Knight in Gelnhasuen and at the Irish Pub in Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt!!!! I would be so rich now hahahahahahahaha One of my more embarassing moments was when I buried a M577A2 in a creek during REFORGER 1988 and a M88 Recovery Vehicle had to come and pull me out - I tried to blame it on the TC hahahahahaha One of the most memorable moments is when B Co went to Berlin in 1989 and trained at Doughboy City......we froze hahahahaha!!!!!!! While we were training at Doughboy City I had an accident that had the potential for disaster. We were learning how to make and engage targets with Molotov Cocktails, and as I pulled my arm back to throw one, the wick on the bottle came out and the fuel mixture ran right down the back of my BDU's and caught fire. For my good fortune, a quick thinking SPC Leslie Terrell was there and put the flames out before I turned into anything crispy hahahaha Got to go to the eastern side before the Wall fell later that year - it was something I will never forget. I would really be curious to see what Gelnhausen and Coleman Kaserne are like today. Since my last time in Gelnahausen I heard Coleman Kaserne has been turned back over to the city and has been used for everything from civilian housing to an industrial and office complex. I am going to make it back to Gelnhausen someday. It will be strange being there as a tourist. 2008 finds me working and living in Austin, Texas. I still work for the government, but in a civilian capacity. I work at a small military post here in Austin called Camp Mabry. I am the Deputy Provost Marshal for the Joint Military Forces of Texas, Texas National Guard. I see that the 3AD reunion is in Austin this year. For those of you that don't know, Camp Mabry has a great museum of military history that is free and open to the public. The displays are great and their collection of military equipment dates back to WWII. So if your in town for the reunion please stop by and check it out. Well my fellow Spearheaders I hope this finds everyone doing well. Take care and it was a pleasure serving with each and every one of you. First_name: Michael CommentsJustlooking for any old friends. e-mail if you want to. First_name: Mario CommentsJust found this website and thought I would post a message. Hope to make contact with some of my old friends who served with me during my tenure with B Company in Germany and Desert Storm. I was in 2nd platoon, tank B23 which was manned by Andres (driver), Jose (loader - forget the last name) and Roosevelt McNeil(TC). Also would like to hear from Savoy, Burkehardt, Cortez (HHC maintenance), Peanut (from Vidor Tx), Bremer, Tim Abner, Capt Hajost and Dorn to name a few. You may be wondering why the Air Force email address. I have been in the Air Force reserve since I left Army active duty in 1991 and presently serving in Iraq on a 4 month tour. What is so funny is I am serving the exact timeframe we did during Desert Storm. I'm supposed to leave on the same date that we redeployed from KKMC in 1991! Anyway, I am currently an accountant in the civilian sector working for one of the largest oil refiners in the world. I'm have been blessed and life is good! First_name: karl CommentsFirst_name: Edgar CommentsLooking for Kris Plandel, Jeff Dobst, David Smith First_name: Bruce CommentsHad a great time viewing site - brought back so many good memories. Fore Mustangs! First_name: Bill CommentsFirst tour at Drake Kaserne Driver for Maj.Gen. C.W. Abrams. Second tour at Drake member of the Division's most hated unit the Division CMMI Team. 8&half years active duty then 22 years in the Army Reserves. First_name: mike Commentshi guys hope to hear from you i have a website at bravo2-33-armor.com come on over lets talk hope to see some 2-32 folks thier also First_name: George CommentsJust visited the old barracks in Hanau. Sorry to see that it is shut down and looking a bit shabby. Brought back great memories. I guess the Pioneer Kaserne has accepted the mobile floating assault bridge duties. The town will be suffering when most of the troops pull out next year. There is still avery large contingent at the other Kasernes. I have many recent photos of the shuttered barracks, but not sure if they're worth sending. First_name: bryan CommentsI was stationed at The Rock from 1989 until 1992 as a mechanic. There were a lot of good times. Looking for Billy Sukach, Todd Albertson, Pelchat, Whitacre, Musgrave, Chris Ross or anyone else who may remember me. First_name: Jeff CommentsHoping to find some old delta dogs from the 214 club days. First_name: Jean CommentsI served with B Co 122nd Maint BN on Fliegerhorst Kaserne. I was 35J20 in the Hangar on the flight line there. I enjoyed my time in the Army and had wonderful experiences in Germany. I really loved my job there too. I got to work with a lot of great guys, some of them rotated right from Viet nam. Mostly sharp smart people. I got to learn so many great things and was introduced to a fascinating industry, electronics. I would never have otherwise been able to travel or go to college had I not joined the military at that time. I have been so fortunate to be able to turn my experiences in to wonderful career oppurtunities on the other side. But I do miss Aviation, worked in it briefly on the left coast after I got out. I enjoyed the work on Cobra TOW when I was in Germany and was on the 7th Corps IG team for a year and got to travel around Germany for Inspections .I worked with Cobra TOW and the Air Cav at Budingen when I was with B 122. After the changeover to 503rd CAB I transferred to B Co 205th Trans and stayed on Fliegerhorst until my discharge in May of 1979. I look back fondly on my experiences and wish that I kept in touch with some of the great people I got to meet, we are all scattered to the far reaches of the universe now. Back then during the "cold war" and in "Peacetime" did we ever think these times, the time of war, would come to us again? I don't think so, but I thank God that there are still young people who believe in the Military and thet they can protect us and serve with honor and distinction, Thank you Thank you all. And if there is anyone who served on the flight line on Fliegerhorst during the mid to late 70's it would be great to hear from you!! I am now Jeanne Wheeler and live in New York state, and after much career searching have settled in to Broadcasting with PBS in East Greenbush New York, WMHT First_name: Jean CommentsI served with B Co 122nd Maint BN on Fliegerhorst Kaserne.
