CommentsThis sight brings back many memories. I cut the grass at the Chapel every Saturday night for 45 days so it would look good for Sunday Service if you know what I mean. I find it hard to believe no one has a picture of the Rock on this sight. I also remember scrubbing Blue Paint and Doves off of it. Started out hard there and went on to retire as a 1SG with the 101st and Iraq. Thanks for the memories Steve First_name: robert CommentsLife time member of the 3ad Assoc., love this site. First_name: Daryl CommentsCliff Mitchell and other posters here in the guestbook, It is a very common practice for the internet to be used for all kinds of scams, such as the one mentioned by Cliff. We have taken steps here to prevent or make difficult the harvesting of email addresses. No email addresses of members are available to anyone except members who have access to the members only portions of the web site. Any email addresses that are not protected within the password protected portions of the site are vulnerable. Here in the guestbook, that is why we have broken the email addresses into two parts; it makes it far more difficult for the crawler programs that are used for harvesting emails. Cliff, yours could easily have been picked up from prior postings, which are still archived and can be susceptible, but it could even be from somewhere else as I will discuss just a little. There has always been a warning on this page concerning this so that each individual can decide whether to post an email address or not. Of course, if an email address is not posted, don't expect any contact from anyone who might read your entry and want to respond directly to you. If you don't leave an email address, you can always hope for and watch the guestbook for a response. The choice is left to the individual and again, we have always had that warning on this page. Across the internet there are all kinds of informative discussions about how to limit access to your email address and protections for it. Most people do not use or follow any of them. My suggestion is always to have a trash or junk email address that you leave in public places and another that you reserve for close contacts. However, even that is not safe because you can't control the actions of those close contacts. For example, if one of them forward a message or reply to multiple others with your email in the address header, your address is out there and may pass through a gazillion computers (that's a lot of computers with your email address on them). Bottom line is, use preventative measures and be cautious, but don't expect to keep your email address hidden from these types for long. When it becomes overly troublesome, you might consider creating a new address. There are no silver bullets for the problem and you won't find one here, either. Daryl, A3ADV President

THE "ASSOCIATION of 3rd ARMORED DIVISION VETERANS" WEBSITE ! I THOUGHT THAT I SHOULD BRING THIS MATTER TO YOUR (The Associations Attention !) THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME and PATIENCE. CLIFTON A. MITCHELL President's reply: Clif, by personal information I am assuming you mean your email address. You and others should read my comments posted here on Sunday, Feb 24. No truly "personal" information is accessible on our site, except what might be placed here by the individual themself. All other information, particularly member information, is kept secure and from public access. There is a warning on this page about posting "personal" information here in this public guestbook. The decision on what to leave here rests with the individual. I would also point out that there is the Spearheader Forums where we maintain a much tighter control over who has access and it is a more secure area since people can contact you from there in a manner that does not expose your email address.

First_name: Bradford CommentsFirst_name: Daryl CommentsIf anyone thought the Cold War ended with the collapse of the Warsaw Pact and the fall of the Berlin Wall, you might want to consider this. In the February 2008 issue of The American Legion magazine there are two very interesting articles. In the first, General Richard A. Cody, the vice chief of the Army, is quoted with the following: "...I've got a chart that shows that between 1950 to 1989, we deployed the Army about 13 times..." "Since the wall came down, and the Cold War was over, we've deployed the Army on 43 different deployments." Amazing numbers, aren't they? In the second article, "Where In The World Are We", it is stated that nearly a half-million U.S. military personnel are deployed today around the world. There's been some clamoring to bring the troops home from Iraq, but I wonder how many knew or remember some of these other deployments. For example, we still have 27,114 in Korea. In Germany, even after all of the drawdowns and re-assignments, we still have 58,894. There are about 10,000 in each of Italy and the United Kingdom. Around 1,500 in each of Belgium, Spain, and Kosovo. The article indicates that there are 168,000 in Iraq and about 25,000 in Afghanistan. There are several surprises in the article like 114 in Thailand, 425 in Egypt, 562 in the Netherlands, and 865 in Portugal. If you have the opportunity to see either or both of these articles, I'm sure you will find them to be worthwhile and interesting reading. If you do not receive the magazine, you might be able to find the articles on the Legion's web site. First_name: Ed CommentsMEMORIES OF ALL THE GARDEN SPOTS,GRAF,HOENFELS. Thanks Lloyd First_name: ronald Commentsit is kind of disappointing,to have served as a SSG.during desert storm and not to be recognized.at the time of deployment to saudi,i had been appointed as unit driver training nco.once we arrivved there the squad leader od c23,was releived of his command and i was entered into his position. i served the rest of desert storm as the squad leader of the 3rd squad of c 3-5 cav.i would really apreciate it if this mix up could be fixed and i was added to the roster of my fellow soldiers in my unit during peace time and desert storm.thank you .if you need to contact me about proving my position i am surely open to that i can be contacted at my e mail address of dewinthedeww at aol.com..thanks you for your attention and i will be checking back time to time to see if i have been added thanks ronald a youmans ssg.
