First_name: James CommentsLooking for information when I was there. First_name: Christian CommentsThis goes out to my buddy Eddie Watts. I just found this site and amazingly enough, he posted that he was looking for me! We have not spoken since 1990. Seems like yesterday and forever all at the same time. I am very sorry to hear about his stroke. We were at Kirchgoens from November 1988 to July 1990, fresh out of high school. I loved driving M1A1 tanks down the Autobahn at 50 MPH. Those were probably the best days of my career. Life takes its twists and turns and now I am a 251A Warrant Officer in the Army Reserves. I did go to Desert Storm with an MP unit out of Minnesota, the 257TH MP Co. I recently contacted two of my leaders, 1LT Tom Brennan, who is now LTC Brennan and works at the Pentagon and SGT Michael Raymond, who is retired MSG Raymond and is working as a contractor at NTC. Two of the best leaders I have ever had. If Lon Pribble, 3AD.org web team, sees this, he will know who these two people are. Anyways, HELLO to all the Spearheaders out there who are missing their German beer! Christian. His email address is available from guest book mgr. He describes as an eyewitness the tradegy that occured in Grafenwoehr in 1960 when a short round hit a tent with 3 12 Soldiers. Believe 17 were killed with many wounded. I was told they were D Troop Soldiers. I always remember the story being told by my Platoon Sergeants whenever we camped out in Graf with those big guns firing. D co. comanders jeep and tank driver First_name: Walter CommentsWould like to hear from anyone who was in A Co, 2nd Bn, 32 Armored stationed on the rock from 1965-68 First_name: Lee CommentsFirst_name: Michael CommentsIt is confession time. As I bumped across this web site and looked at the picture of The Rock illustrated at the intersection of the Butzbach-Wetzlar Road, I decided it is time to come clean. The night prior to leaving country at the end of my three year accompanied tour, I decided to pull something of a prank which would be remembered for some time. Though not as imaginative as many jeuvinile acts, it was somewhat unusual and may explain why the rock in the picture on this site looks so different vs. the one I saw over my years of service. My buddy, SP5 Christopher Mullett (91C), who is now a Pediatrician in El Paso, and I drove out on the night of 26 NOV 1978 to The Rock and I poured a 5 gallon can of white paint all over the large concrete, triangular symbol of our esteemed Kaserne. At that time I was a SGT 91B2F and at this time I am a retired Major 66H8A (Intensive Care Nurse). Really, my wife and I had a good time over there spending our off duty time racing around europe and spending as little time as possible in the housing area. We had quarters in the housing area up in Wetzlar. After 26 years in the Army, much of it enlisted, I must say the only two things I really miss are the years on air crew and the three fine years assigned to The Rock. First_name: Anthony Commentsanyone from 3rd bn 36th inf from 73 to 76 First_name: Edward CommentsUpon my arrival at Budingen Germany in early 1975, there were many rumors about race riots occurring on post. The Army was trying to address race issues within the ranks, and remember attending my share of race relations or race sensitivity classes. This was post Vietnam and an interesting time to serve in Europe as a PV2. Soldiers were finishing their tour under the draft. Short timer calendars, to include boots over the wires were seen everywhere. There were racial tensions, drug use, and explicit acronyms used to describe the Army. There was also a polarization between white and black troops. As I moved on with my military career, there appeared more race integration. Some say what occurred in the Army at that time was a representation of what was happening across America. Although those were trying times, I always seem to refer to my time spent in 3AD and Budingen Germany as my most memorable. I was actually assigned to a CID unit, which stands for Criminal Investigation Command, however, this was covert, and to this day only documented within certain confidential documents. Gelnhausen is a beautiful town, that is if you can appreciate the fine and subtle circumstances of life. There is significant history and culture, and the people are extraordinary! It seems so different now, sort of vacant. In my memory, the place was full of color and alive. Now it seems gray and dead. Painful, but memories are often more colorized I suppose.
