Not sure what list you are looking for it at. When someone sends in their membership application, it usually runs at least 2-3 weeks to be processed. You will receive a membership card and letter. You don't get your name added to the unit rosters by becoming a member. Typically, those names are added as people leave entries in the guestbook.

Commanded A CO (Apaches) during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. Changed command (to Rocky Heatherly)after the cease fire with Tom Arial and Craig Carson. Battalion hosted 3 company changes of command in one day in Iraq. My 1SG during the war was 1SG (R) Bob Wilkerson. XO was Brad Gerricke, PLs were John Steele, "Iron" Mike Stagoski and Mike Crick. My father Woodrow Wilson Tyler from Texas was killed in France in July 1944 while serving with the 3rd armoured division. I am working on our family tree and am trying to locate information on my uncle's death in World War II. His name was 2nd Lt. Terry Elsworth Johnson. He served with the 32nd armored regiment, 3rd armored division. He was born in Minnesota and was killed in action on 11/24/1944 in Belgium. For sure it was yesterday, maybe even the day before but, not twenty something years ago. There has not been a single day that I do not think or look back on those days. Stationed at Fliegerhorst and flew the borders on T-Bird and Corvette missions (between VN tours). Crashed a Mohawk close to the small town of Volkartsein one wintery day. Had two trips to Rota, Spain ferrying aircraft there (a great place). Brought a Porsche back to the States. Loved the tour but had to work too much to be able to do any traveling. I loved Germany and the Army. But they didn't love me. I was attacked in 1990 by my acting 1st Sgt. Was in the hospital for several weeks and ended up taking a discharge. He got sent to Ft. Leavenworth for premeditated attempted murder for aprox 12-14 yrs. I believe he is out now but can not seem to locate. If anyone remembers anything about this they can email back and I will give further details. This happened on a kaserne in Hanau. Thank you for any help.

Paul J Suski was my Dad he would not say anything about his service in WWII other than he had to make the Beer run. My mother recently gave me some of his papers and in there was his Discharge papers that my mom said he carried in his wallet until he passed away a long with the book "Spearhead in the West 1941-1945" The discharge states that he was a heavy truck driver with Co K 423RD Inf served in Normady, N. France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe he received good conduct medal and 1 silver battle star. Anyone with information on my Dad or the 423 would be greatly appreciated so far my research has turned up nothing on this unit and no information in regards to the silver battle star is that a unit award or individual? I have sent for his record from NASA but don’t know if that will be much help. Thanks Greg

I just found this website and it was like turning back the clock for a moment. I was one of a handful left in the Division to turn off the lights in 3AD HQ at Drake Kaserne in Frankfurt and close the doors on what we thought was going to be a temporary inactivation in Feb 1992. This website and others associated with it bring back a lot of good memories of time spent with friends and comrades on training exercises and during Desert Storm. Good to see that the Spearhead spirit lives on even if the Division is no longer active.

Stationed at Fliegerhorst Kaserne. Can anyone give me info about the tunnels or bunkers under the kaserne? One of our forklifts exposed a tunnel during the Bosnia deployment back in 1996. Engineers filled & sealed it. Didn't get a chance to check it out, but became very interested.

Notes on "The Rock" ... I read on a German webpage (www.lostplaces.de) that The Rock had been torn down. This is not totally accurate - at least, not yet. I was on The Rock on Sunday, 15 August 2004, and most of the buildings are still there. It is true, however, that they are being torn down - apparently plans are to tear them all down and build something else there. But most of the buildings are still there now, and they look about the same way they did when I visited in 1997 - just abandoned.

One of most beautiful places in the world. I was very young and hopelessly in love with your country.Gelnhausen will forever have a place in my heart. I spent a little over two years in your beautiful town. Since this was the first time I've ever been out of my country ,I was really fascinated with your culture. I said it looked like Disneyland, but the truth is, Disneyland looks like your country. I was 18 years old when I arrived in your country. When I rotated back to the states, I was 21 years of age with a new outlook on life.While I was stationed there, I met the love of my life. Her name is,Irmgard Klie. We were married in the town of Gelnhausen at the Standezamt and we lived in a small apartment. The top apartment on 13 undermarkt. we are still married and have had three beautiful children. I also adopted a little German girl by the name of, Sabine Burnner which she was born in Gelnhausen to my wife in her first marriage. We were married on July 5, 1965. One of my biggest hopes, is to return to your beautiful little town and retrace some of my memories as a soldier and dating my girlfriend which became my wife. You'd think that coming back to Germany would be very easy for me to do. A specially when you work for airline. I work for Continental Airlines, But I have had both of my knees replaced and I am still recuperating. Meanwhile while I'm recuperating my flight benefits are suspended. One day soon I will be back in this little beautiful town.

President Bush will announce today the expected withdrawel of the 1st Armored and 1st Infantry Divisions from Germany. Also the closing of 13 bases near Friedberg and Giessen. These closings would mean the end for most if not all the former 3AD bases. Grafenwoehr is undergoing a $630 million dollar upgrading,and will be getting a new Stryker Brigade.

I was an 11C and a "Tubehead" as part of the 4.2" mortar platoon in headquarters company. I lived and served in Gelnhausen in 3rd AD and enjoyed the chance to experience Germany. I landed in Frankfurt in January 1984 fresh out of basic at Fort Benning and was then assigned to G-town through September of 85. I have fond memories serving under SFC Selfridge and SSG Reed. Captain Finney was our Company CO. Some of the names I recall: Vinson, Posa, Rainbolt, Smith, Stubblefield, McNeil, LaFalce, Linares, Martinez, Walingford, Busby, Uharriet, (Ghist, McCubbin, Shingledecker, Van Norman - these guys were from from maintenance). We had many good times wandering around town eating at the local restaurants and drinking at the pubs. We also took the train into Frankfurt when we weren't in the field for late nights at Sachsenhausen. My fondest memory was participating in the Nijmegen march up in Holland - four days 100 miles.

I am a brit ( who served in the UK Army in the cold war) but I am buying a small farm in Somerset, England. The 143rd Signal Bn was billeted there abouts in early 1944. I wondered if there was anyone who had any memories of that time or remembers what living around "CUCKLINGTON" or "HALE" was like. The site still has concrete roads across it and one field is known as "TANK FIELD" by the locals who remember half-tracks being parked there before D Day. Great website! I served at Fliegerhorst (Fliegerdump) and had a wonderful three years in my first Aviation assignment. Limitless flying, travel in Europe, and the innocence of youth - it didn't get any better than that. And what a great unit: from MG Ullmer down to SFC Jim Avant... great professionals all.
