Looking for anyone with information about Hall Overton, who served in WWII and probably worked as a radio technician at some point. He was a great musician and may have been involved in a jazz band at the time as he claimed he learned to play bebop in the Army. Many thanks.

I served as the PLL clerk for the unit also in the ricon team under Cpt Carraway and Lt John J O'Brien ,Lt Philip Brandli, Lt Forest, Sgt Goforth as Motor Pool Sgt also Sgt T. Thomas and Sgt Lee as Plattoon Sgt. I have to say it was a great working with this group of gentleman. I was only 17 yrs old when I arrived from Puerto Rico and the change of weather was a whitch with a (B). Going out that back gate running at 5 or 6 am on snowy grounds in a t-shirt and gloves was not my idea of be all you can be. Whatching the shepard and his sheeps standing by the gun and rod club while we ran out into nowhere and back were memories I will never forget , going around the base thru the motorpool and making a quick stop at the snack bar for a Kingburger and a drink served by Frauline whatever were there names. Playing a tune on the Juke Box with the same old songs which everyone knew even the spanish songs.Watching the little groups sitting in there favorite corners in he snack bar. Buying suites at the Taylor across the street from the front gate or having a beer or jager snitzel and pomp fritzs at the guest house across from the front gate. Who can forget the wonderful reception station as the Castle in Butzbach where I caught pheumonia the first night I arrived from Puerto Rico and kept it to my self with the fear of being kicked out. If only I would of known was was waiting ( The Rock) thats exactly what it was I probaly would of coughed a little louder .The mind of a teenager o'well. I have to say I served with a lot of great guys Dino , Jerry(Slim) McClure my buddy from South Carolina, Krueger from Montana , Shultz , Marks ,Alvin Aponte ,Ayala ,Castro and not Fidel, Sanabria , Cuban Juan Martinez, my troubled friend Berrios from one time The Chicago Latin Kings yes I know what that was I did try to help you buddy and teach you but you were a little hard headed or maybe just young, Cintron from NY, Alexandro Valenzuela ,Juan Matas my fellow Mexicans ,Sgt Terry Thomas , Sgt Lee ,Thomas from Camuy PR Wilson HQ Platoon and other buddies from other companies Valdivieso and Quinones from B Co Sgt Paz from B Co ,From Csc, Sanchez , Negron alias (El Nene) most likely still living in Butbach , Abadia the boxer my roommate in Niederkleen. Also Negron the only redheaded Puertorican in the world ,and everyone else i forgot to include, I have to say I do miss a lot of those days and friends. If anyone has any Pictures they can foward I would really appreciate it since mine went with my first marriage or should I say divorce.Well Thats all for now God Bless all of you ex-members of the 3rd Armored Div and those ex Rock members and your familys. Alpha Rangers all the way!!! Time to plan a trip to Graf or Hoensfel or perhaps good old Wildflicken or whatever they were called . It would be great to hear from anyone ouy there!!

The newsletter is being mailed to those of you who have requested a hard copy of it. For those of you who do not receive the newsletter via mail, you may download your copy from the members only section. I have not tried to do a mass e-mail with them because most peoples anti spam will reject the e-mail. I have an idea of how to do it down the road so I can send them out. If you do not receive your copy of the newsletter by July 5th, that probubly means you are not on the snail mail list. Please contact me if you wish to be added. Remember to get your ballot in the mail right away to vote in the election. Ballot's not received by the Association Secretary prior to his leaving for the reunion will not be counted. I hope some of you can still book to attend the reunion this year. We are having a joint reunion with the WWII 3AD Association. There are not a lot of them left alive. I have gone to two of their reunions and I can tell you, it is a great experience to meet them and get to know them. I believe I read that 1,650 WWII veterans are dying each day. Don't think you can wait a few more years to meet them, there won't be many of them left. Get on board and join us in Columbus.

Where are all you guys from C Battery. I have talked to John "Buck" Nierman and Johnny "Skinnyman" Cannon. I went back to G-Town in '95. Parts of it had changed but some had not and I am sure never will. I walked up to the back gate and it brought memories of climbing over it late at night.

Please help.
Thank you
General Patton was with the 2nd Armored Division, and the 3rd Army. I would suggest you check with the 2nd Armored Division Association for more information if he served under General Patton

Hey Guys & Girls, Was at Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach, Germany back in the ol days. Remember when we got about 4 marks for our $1.00, spent alot of it at Bahnhof Strasse in Frankfurt. Had a custom patch designed and made, after I got permission from the Town of Butzbach just to cover mu butt. Paid little over $2,100 to have 36 of them made. They are 12" X 17" and made to be sewn on a back of a Motorcycle vest or jacket. I wore mine for Rolling Thunder and was stopped dozens of time in the Pentagon Parking Lot and later after the Parade from anybody that had ever been stationed there. I go back to Germany every 4 years or so. Was there last in 2001 with my wife and the Schloss Kaserne had been demolished and were building new housing while we were there. The Roman Way Housing Area was still there, only about 50% occupied with mostly GI's stationed at Friedberg and surrounding areas. That housing area is going to be turned over back to the Germans by fiscal year 2007. I'm getting ready to go back in September and will also give the Mayor's Office a couple of the Patches that I promised them. There are a lot of GI's who retired in that area and are now working for DoD. If anyone is interested in the Patch, e-mail me. I'm going to take a close-up shot of the patch and can e-mail a picture back for anyone who would like to pucrchase one at cost. God Bless All

Started in Charlie Company under CPT. Kadell. Went to many Graf's and Hohenfels, and even had the opportunity to train at Senelager with the British 2nd Queens Rgmt. and some frog outfit. That was the best time I had while at the "Rock".

Even though we spent a lot of time in the field, including the ice thickened shower dry off area in "Tent City", I look back to that period of time as some of the best friendships I have ever made. To this day, I still miss my old platoon. It's the funniest thing, at times I hated being on "The Rock", but there were good times with good people. Anyway, if you were ever at "The Rock", especially from '75-78, give a shout.

"The Infantryman"
As Seen By Himself: A Stout, Handsome, Highly-Trained Professional Killer and Female Idol, who wears a star sapphire ring, carries a finely honed knife, is covered with a crisp camo hat and is always on time due to the reliability of his Seiko Diver's Watch.
As Seen By His Wife: A stinking, gross, foul mouthed bum, who arrives home every 6 months or so with a bag full of filthy laundry, a huge ugly watch, an oversized knife, a filthy hat, and a h**d-on.
As Seen By Headquarters: A drunken Brawling, HMMWV stealing, women corrupting liar, with a star sapphire ring, Seiko watch, unauthorized Knife, and a f**ked up hat.
As Seen By His Commanding Officer: A fine specimen of a drunken Brawling, HMMWV stealing, women corrupting bullshitter, with a star sapphire ring, fantastically accurate Seiko watch, finely honed razor sharp Knife, and a seasoned camo hat.
As Seen By Congress: An over paid, over-rated, tax burden, who is however, indispensable since he will volunteer to go anywhere, at any time, and kill whoever he is told to, as long as he can, drink, brawl, steal HMMWV's, corrupt women, kick cats, lie, sing dirty songs, wear filthy camouflaged clothes, big Sapphire rings, over-sized knives, Seiko watches and really f**ked up hats.

Didn't actually serve. Son of COL Robert Rosenkranz, DIVARTY Commander at the time. Best overseas tour, either as dependent or as an artilleryman in the service. Very fond memories, and often find myself reflecting on my family's stay there with nostalgia. Wish the Army was more like it was when I was a dependent with the 3AD DIVARTY!

I just thought I'd say "hello" to all of you two-year soldiers who served w/ me in B Battery, 2-82 FA "Red Dragons" in Friedberg, Germany and also in the Saudi Arabian and Iraqi deserts. Anyway... I don't know how we made it through... No, I'm not talking about Desert Shield/ Storm... I'm talking about The Studio in Friedberg, The Schwimmbad in Bad Nauheim and the RED LIGHT DISTRICT, Sachsenhausen and the Hauptbahnhof in Frankfurt! My memorys of these places are all still a little blurred and hazed. Anyway, I have managed to make it back to Ray Barracks in 2002 where I was greeted by an unfriendly Turkish gate guard who was not willing to let me into the Kaserne to take pictures... nor could I find a soldier willing to just "sign me in" like we used to do for our buddies "back in the day". Well anyway, I hadn't seen much input on the website from 2-82 FA, so I thought it my duty to REPRESENT a little bit. RED DRAGONS!!!

"The Rock" It has been 20 years now since my arrival in Germany. The time has gone by with remarkable speed. It doesn't seem as though it could be this long. I stumbled into this web-site and have been searching to see if any of my old friends are out there. The list of comments are quite long but one thing they seem to have in common is that everyone comments on the good time they had there. We all had one thing in common and that is it was probably all of our first time to be so far from our homes and country. That forms a bond that can never be broken. I hope that someone from 2/29 FA stumbles upon this and responds. If not I hope you all enjoy this web site and I will continue my search. Spc.4 Sargent,Medic EFMB

I was stationed at Hutier Kaserne from Oct of 1988 to Oct of 1990. I married Rick Dalrymple in 1989, so some of you may remember that name. From what I understand, I was sent to Ft. Lewis WA, two weeks before they shut Hutier down and sent everyone to Desert Storm. Rick and I got divorced (I wish I would have listened to some of you a little more). I am now back in my hometown of Stillwater, OK. I was an E-4 and worked in S-3 for LTC Brown.

I was with 71st Ordinance and both lived and worked at Pioneer Kaserne during the end of the Vietnam War. Our unit repaired "obsolete" missiles that came in, and went back out. I was the "Commo Chief" for the unit. Originally the women lived at Hutier Kaserne, but then they moved us to Pioneer.
I have been trying to locate friends from my unit. I will try to find photos from those days to send.

Sheridans were almost brand new when I got to Armstrong in March of '70. While I was there, we did 2 Grafs and 2 Hoenfels among other things. I was there for that big forest fire in Graf that got started by tracer rounds. We spent the next day removing tracer rounds from the ammo belts. Those train rides were a blast. You never so saw many drunks getting off the train in the morning. It was all we could do to unload the tracks. By the time I left in Aug. of '71, we had "cannabalized" one of the 3 tracks in our platoon just to keep the other 2 running. All of them in the 3/12 were pretty much falling apart. Hope all my buddies are doing okay. Be great to hear from you!

I am also looking for information about the reunions of the WWII 3rd Armd Div Association. Especially the first one they held. If you have any photo's or information on their reunions, please contact me. I want to do a story in the next newsletter. I am also looking for old clippins from papers that have articles about the "Spearhead" division. I attempted to buy 61 copies of Stars and Stripes on Ebay last week from 1944-45. They went for over $200 and I could not afford to spend that kind of money on something like this. I am trying to build an archive of old news articles for the future use of the Association. If you have any clippings from any time period, please contact me.

The July newsletter is available in the members only section for you to download in either Word or Adobe format. For those of you who receive your newsletter by mail, it should be back from the printer and mailed in about 2 weeks. The ballot to vote for the board of director election is in the newsletter. Make sure you read up on the candidates and get your ballot in on time so that you can have a say in who runs the Association. There is also a section in the forum section of the website where you may ask the candidates questions and receive answers.

This site has brought back so many memories. I came to HHB 3ADA from an aviation outfit and served as a company clerk, mail clerk, chaplain's assistant and did my share of guard duty and kp at Graf - all the while carrying a 67U MOS - Chinook crew chief. But I didn't complain - it was better than VietNam. I was disappointed when the deactivated the division. Now I live in Denmark and often think of hopping the train down to Frankfurt and Hanau to see if I can remember anything.

We grew up in New York City. My brother Harold was in the 258th Field Artillery in WWII. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was sent to England for recovery. I was 7 years old when the war broke out. Harold was 17 years older than me. I would like to know how to trace where he landed through the Battle of the Bulge. As his letters were censored, we never knew where he was. Unfortunately, in the 1970's we lost touch. I would also like to reestablish contact with him or his family. He had moved to Dumont, New Jersey. Any guidance you could give me, would be much appreciated.
Sincerely, Mary Warren 4402 Saffron Lane Friendswood, TX 77546

The news was on and I heard them talking about the 3rd Armored Division in Operation Gyroscope, after reading more about the operation I knew I wanted to be a part of it so on 29 June 1955 I enlisted at Chicago Ill. With a bus load of other enlistees we were off to Ft Knox Ky. I was assigned to H&H Co. 32nd Mediam Tank Bn. After a couple months I was sent to The Armd school as a mechanic on wheel and track vehicles. The men I served with were not just friends but more like family and I still keep in touch with my best friend Ken Vissers. Those were the best years I spent in the Army and am proud to have served in the 3rd Armd Div.

While stationed in Glenhausen, West Germany, I trained in all the trainnig ares at least twice, I remmember being assigned to the weapons platoon. I'd like to get in touch with one of my platoon sergents at that time. His name was Sgt. Booser E-7. I'd like to know if he married that German girl, back then by the name of " Ziggy ". I'd also like to get a hold of Jesse Hernandez, Bobby Cantalaro, Zold, Razzo and any one else that remmembers me. Alot of the pictures I took back then were lost during the pass years. One other person, his name was Espi. He and I really got to know each other. I'd like to hear from any one that was there in Germany during 73-75 from all the armored Div.

Was in A Co. 36th Inf and volunteered for Long Range Patrol. Was transferred to Hq & Hq and worked with 143 Sig and in Communications & Cryto. Remember when in 36th being attached out with the 13th Arm Cav or 1st Armd Cav outfits as perimeter guard and getting beer with our Army chow in the evening. Butzbach bar and German food and Beer . Alerts being in Giessen and the cab drivers always knew which units or what type of alert it would be before we did. Cab drivers getting us back on time for alerts in record time. good thing we were a little under the weather as we never would have stayed in a car moving like that if we were sober!

Just got back from Rolling Thunder, proudly flew out 3'x5' 3ad flag from my bike. Surprisingly saw no others. Had numerous Spearhed vets from 3ad approach me and had some good old "war stories" told. Most from Drake and Edwards, none from Schloss Kaserne, where I was stationed. It was good to see and hear from guys I could relate to. Some did not know about our web site, they will check it out when they get back home. Next year we need to organize a unified ride and roll in together. After all, the 3rd Armored Division was the original "Rolling Thunder"; even had the documentary made about us and shown on the History Channel. So let's show them some team spirit next year.. God Bless all

Still looking for old friends from my old unit. I keep checking in from time to time. I now serve with the USCGAUX FL 12-07 District 11SR. I now stand guard with them and I feel that someone has to watch our back door here at home.
I want to thank all who served and are still serving for a job well done. I for one do appreciate the freedom we have. To the families of those who are still serving, may God bless you and your trooper, if it were not for people like you, we might not have a great nation as we have today.
I would like to ask all of you to please attend a Memorial Day ceramony in you area if you could this year. You may not be active duty but you still belong.
Thank you God Bless you all.

To the 3 AD Soldiers, This weekend is a time of reflection upon the great sacrifice that was made by all of us who served this great armored division. No doubt the Third Armored Division is the greatest to ever serve in World War 2 with so many accomplishments and so many sacirifices of life. It is the greatest armored division to stand the Fulda Gap and guard freedom during an uncertain time that we call the Cold War. It is the greatest armored division to take the field of battle in the Deserts of the Middle East. We Band of Soldiers met the enemy in battle and peace. Once again we stand together on another Memorial Day. To all Thank You, Thank you for your service to this great Division, The Third Armored Division. SPEARHEAD....

I don’t remember If I ever thanked Lt. Annan for sending me, Easterling and Washington on administrative leave to Berchtesgaden with a bus load of people from the 3-36Inf in the fall of 1965. We got to go to Saltzburg, Herrenchiemsee, The Eagel’s Nest and a lot of other beautiful places in the mountains. What made it even more special was in the Spring of 1966 I took an American Express tour to Paris. “The Sound of Music” had just been released and I saw it in English with French subtitles and there were most of the places I had seen in Saltzburg. and Obersaltzburg. Did anyone ever notice at the end of the movie when the Von Trapp family are fleeing the Germans they are on the mountain above Hitler’s house! Thanks Lt. Annan where ever you are.
Remember “The land of the round door knobs and the big PX’s” We had someone from “B” company come back from leave in the US with a round door knob. It was installed on a door on the third floor and I think most everyone came up there just to turn the round door knob.
Did anyone else heat “C” ration cans while in convoy by putting a dent in the unopened can and hold the can to the M113 exhaust with a “Mox Nix” stick until the dent popped out? Then we knew it was done. Anyone remember a weapons demonstrations at Hohenfels, the summer of 1965, when an M60 ran over the haul of a VW Beetle. One could hear a gasp from the German civilians in the crowd when the car was rendered flat as a pancake. The engine had been removed first.
I had heard that one time at Ayres Kaserne during an Alert someone tried playing the sounds of low flying aircraft, explosions, weapons firing etc. Supposedly the place went nuts with vehicles driving through fences, some leaving without the whole crew and general confusion. Can anyone confirm this first hand or is it just an urban legend?
Still miss driving my “track”. Got to swim it twice. Once in Compo Pond than once across the Main. Another M113 got stuck coming out of the river and we had to go to the alternate exit point. In the process one track must have hit a sandbar and we ended up doing a 360° turn in the river. The TC kind of “freaked out” since he didn’t know how to swim and wasn’t happy about the whole operation.
I am proud to have been part of the Third Armored.

Served as 2nd & 1st LT from Jan 66 to Oct 67 at Ayers Kaserne during the draw down of troop for the Vietnam buildup. 2/3rd FA was down to a handful of officers (lots of exposure for yound shavetails) and had lots of new recruits, worked our buns off between inspections, readiness alerts and training at Graf, Vilseck, etc. We did win the DivArty best gunners award. Lots of friends came and went, all served well. Did receive the Army Commendation Award. Leaned lots from LTC Joseph Langley, our Bn Commander.

Got to 3/5 in mid '92. CPT Rodriguez was CO, and 1LT Denis Poyerd was my PLT LDR. SFC Soto was Platoon Daddy. Years later he was S3 SGM at my unit at Ft. Riley. (1-13 AR). I remember CPT Rodriguez' wife was the local bike. Everybody rode her. Had some great times in Germany. I even have a few video tapes still. Lots of time at Graf and Hofenfels. I fondly remember being at Hohenfels and coming under fire from the Opfor. We chased them down and discovered they were a platoon of all female MP's...we were very embarrassed since they had take out alot of our guys with a .50 on a Humvee...ahh, those were the days. I was stationed in “Swinging Budingen” Germany, from March 1975 to September 1979. My unit was D 3/12 CAV. I was a UH-1 Helicopter Crew Chief and remember Armstrong Kaserne/Budingen very well. We stayed in the barracks with the Aero Rifle Platoon. I remember the daily walks from the back gate to the airfield, sometimes stopping at the “Old Number Nine” along the creek. I remember that horrible road which cost both Americans and Germans their lives. Those were the early years in my military career, a lot of field duty, guard duty, alerts, KP, Graf, and Hohenfels. Did I leave anything out? Remember operating the radio on long nights of guard duty, “Winds 10 at 160…Land at Pilot’s.... Discression…snoooooozzzzzzzee.” Anyone remember Dave Engelhardt? He was a Technical Inspector, and owned some land surrounding the airfield. Remember he worked the surrounding fields, and always had a fine cow manure shine on his boots. Heard Dave passed away in the early 1980s. Anyone remember our fearless commander, “Captain Ferrera?” Had the pleasure of working for him again in 1989 as a Full Colonel. After a long day I enjoyed going to Omas' Bier Bar in Orleshausen and knocking back a few. There were a few characters there including Christel and Ziggy, the flipper killer. Does anybody remember the place? Oma had a bunch of old photos of squadron personnel on the wall. They would be a great addition to your website. Remember the low cost of stereos, the albums, concerts, and visits to the Audio Club in Frankfurt. Remember the many get togethers in our four-man room in the barracks. Ronnie, Gregg, Dave, Don, Ira, Bob, Steve, Frank, where are you? Remember the back road drive to Gelnhausen, and Pioneer Kaserne (believe was the only commissary at the time). 1976-1977 were very hot summers in Germany, and to this day very good years for German wine. I remember that discovered cache of Rommel’s whiskey, I remember the "Hole in the Wall" in Budingen, Schloslicks (spell?) and french fries with mayonnaise in newspaper, Moms Bier Bar, big bottles of wine with neat pictures, snipe hunting in the woods, walking the many wooded paths in the area, other forms of entertainment (not mentioning), and visiting the castles of Budingen and Ronnenberg. There was the Budingen NCO club where one could have a couple of beers at lunch. Of course I cannot reframe from mentioning the purchase of my $300.00 Blue Scoot 4-11L VW hatchback automobile, which I eventually totaled on an early alert in Orleshausen.

I served in both 3/61 ada and 3/5 ada in both B btry (86-87) and A btry (87-89) as a 24M. I worked with the M163A1 vulcan and the M163A2 vulcan. My time at Armstrong barracks was memorable. For all to know Moni's Place was the best as Moni herself took care of many of us when we needed.

As far as I know, I have no connection with the 3AD. But my dad was in the 78th ('Lightning') Infantry Division and fought at Hurtgenwald in WWII. There is a site on that horrible episode at http://www.hurtgen1944.homestead.com/Index.html which notes that the 3AD participated (in fact, alongside the 9th Infantry, joined the initial battle), but there is no information on your unit. Please see to it that your contributions and sacrifices aren't lost.
