I took part in alot of training exercises and recived both distingished platoon and squad awards. We did it all from Air mobile training in Bad Toldzes, city training in Berlin, member of Border Legion Guard, and all the regular training exercises. My last six months of duty I spent in the 3rd Brigade with the R&U Shop. Anybody know where i could get an M60 Machine Gun or replica to put out on my front porch.

I served with 2/67 ar from Sep. 93 to Sep.96. I was the loader on C14 and HQ63. During my time on C14, we got the 1000 on TT VIII and to this day remains as a favorite memory and accomplishment. And to all my friends there at that time, Altic,Hoever,Miller,Morbacher,Lucero,James,Estep, and all the rest of you guys, yes, even you SFC.George, they were truly some of the best times!

Shipped over on Rose in '56. Stationed in Freidberg. Transferred from 47th infantry to an unauthorized band on post. We were billeted in the third floor of the BOQ until one of our men bowled over an officer heading out to chow. We were then moved over with the MP's on the third floor overlooking the parade grounds. I was a Freshman in college at the time of Desert Storm and a brief pen pal to Brian. I have often wondered what happened to him since the cease fire and often thought about trying to find him again.

I was the second platoon leader and executive officer of B Co. Captain Gregory Fontenot (now Colonel, retired) was my company commander. He was succeeded by Captain Warren Frier. My first sergeants were Alvin Dalton and Colin Davies (Dragon). Other platoon leaders were Jerry Lacey, Bill Busse and Jeff Stover. Other NCOs whom I remember were Daniel Coyle and Jerry Crozier(my platoon sergeant), Robert Ellsworth (motor sergeant), Allen Woods, Waege, Mayberry, Lemoine, Dowdy, and Cannon. The battalion commanders during this period were LTC John Swindells and LTC Charles B. Fegan. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who served with the Pickles during 1976 through 1979.

My ex husband and i were stationed at Edward Kaserne and left here in 1987. In 1997 I wanted to return to Germany and see how it had changed and where I used to live. Quite a difference with the tall grass and the delapidated guard shack now. I did take a couple photos of it and the main exchange area. The only thing left standing at the main exchange was the gas station which was gutted and the commissary. Was kinda sad to also see that my favorite eating place had become an italian restaurant. It was located right across the street from Edwards. Drake Kaserne's building seemed to be all intact and there were cars parked near the bank so was guessing it was still in use by the Germans i guess. Was kinda sad seeing it in such run down condition though. Even housing had 2 ft grass growing there. Guess things don't stay the same do they.

I was station at Anderson Barracks in Dexheim germany. While stationed there I belonged to a paltoon involved with tactical nuclear weapons classified as Atomic Demolition Munitions 12E20.

I also worked at the theater perfroming many jobs including a movie projectionist. One night while showing a movie I think "A" company flashed the theater audiance!

Had many great times in the surronding countryside and cities. Got a chance to live off base in Dexheim in a house that was over 500 years old. Great experiences with excellent people and personnel.

I was assigned to Scrappy Red medical Co.TDY with Charlie Co. First Bat of the 8th Cav. Regiment I continue to search for A Sgt who saved my life while we were on patrol Nov. 10, 1951 out in the North of Chorwon Valley. At the time he was with the Third Platoon led that day by Lt. Jack Tendering. I was bringing up the rear of the Patrol and Sgt. JOnes was just ahead of me perhaps 20 feet when he turned to alert me of the Chineese squad behind me on the trail we had just come up. When I turned to look back the barrel of a 30 cal burp gun greeted me as the man started to fire from not more than 40 or 50 feet. As the bullets snapped around my head I drew my 45 colt revolver from the holster on my hip and fired as I dived for cover behind a large rock close to me. My heart felt thanks to Jonsey as we all called him ( I never knew his first name. He may have come to us from the Oklahoma 45 Div. I was never a member of 3AD. Wish I was though. Seems like a great bunch. I'm writing because I did work at Francois Kaserne between 1978 and 1979 as part of the 66th Engineeer company.

I was a SGT. who served with D. 4/18 ( Delta Dawgs)Infantry from 86-91. We had some great times like: Reforger 88, Berlin 89, and of course Desert Shield/Desert Storm. But whoever was around the unit in 88,89 will never forget 1Sgt Miller and his painful PT sessions and roadmarch's,and 1Sgt Millers mascot. Looking back though for the rest of us who stayed in Gelnhausen it prepared us for the desert. But the men who I served with in the desert were the best. So a toast to some of the best soldiers there ever was. 1st Platoon: PFC Jansen, PFC Matthews, PFC Lane, PFC Stebbins, PVT Riddell, SGT Peerson, SPC Shadix, SPC Gonzales, PFC Vincent, PFC Blanton, PFC Black, PFC Boelz, SSG Anderson, SPC Mcloskey, PVT Hill, PVT Birchfield, PVT Lawrence, SSG Glass LT Stefanichik, ,SFC Johnson, Pvt Stanford, PFC Splawn, Sgt Hanson, Spc Eaton, Pfc Thomas and the others my memory has failed. I was first stationed at Coleman Kaserne in the summer of 1990 fresh out of Basic. My first memories were of going to the park or Hallenbad in downtown Gelnhausen and watching the topless German girls playing volleyball! Then it was training at "Graf and Hoens". And. oh yeah, the fall of the Berlin Wall. Then deployment to the Gulf for Desert Storm. As the post deactivated, I was sent to Ft. Knox for the remainder of my tour, where I trained officers on tanks and drove General Patton, (Patton's son a 2 star gen.) for a while. And have subsequently moved back to So. California. I will always remember Gelnhausen as a beautiful and scenic place where myself and others like me pillaged and plundered, (and drank) our way out of adolescence and into manhood. There are few times in one's life when they can truly say life was good, and that was one of them. I don't know if it was because of the war, or the German people and culture I experienced. I don't know if it was the bonds and friendships formed with fellow soldiers and Americans in foreign lands. All I know, is that I had the experiences of a lifetime while assigned to 4/8cav in Germany and the Gulf, both good and bad, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. God bless all of you, I am proud to have stood next to you.

I was glad to have served in Desert Storm, and in 4-67 Armor. Great bunch of soldiers to go to war with. I was a Battalion LNO as a new butter-bar, navigating with a compass and odometer, picking up op-ords in the middle of the night. Then transferred to be Platoon Leader of 1st Plt, D-Co. Looking for any one that was on temp duty befour the ground forces war started.IE-I was driving a bus that took all ground forces to their ground location near the Iraq border,My OIC called me and my co, driver scud dodgers. We was always dodging the scuds coming our way.Any one that remembers the OIC, A col, or the CIA officer we reported to be four we left, that had that house boat in the pier,write my e-mail,I left to fight with my unit the night the ground battle started, and never said I was leaving, My CO came and got me. Any one remembers me? Im the one that played spades when the scuds was trying to hit us, and while the ladys in the warehouse was crying for their mothers,our female soliders.

One of the coolest experiences of my life. One could never imagine what life was like in Germany during the cold war unless one was there. As deputy PAO, we saw, heard and told about it all. My time spent wearing the Spearhead patch was relatively brief but memorable. Later on in Germany I served with units supporting the Division, but never again had the chance to sew the patch back on. I've always had the highest regard for the 3AD and remember it fondly and with admiration.

Hey Kevin and Stephan Thanks for the website!! Without you 2 guys and some others we would have never found our C6 who was missing from are alpha alpha since after the war and a whole lot of other fellow tankers. Remember you can take a man out of a tank, but you can't take the tank out of a man. I want to back up the board on this one. There are people running money making scams that are using our guest book for a source of e-mail address's from overseas. There is no way to stop them. The board in response to complaints was trying to come up with a way to give people the ability to communicate with each other and leave their name and address without getting 10 messages a day trying to get your bank account numbers or sell you the latest organic drug to keep your virility up. Having served a couple of years on the board, it is tough enough to make decisions with your group being spread out all over the world. If you wanted to make every decision come down to a vote of the members, nothing would ever get done. We elect them every year, if you want to see something done different, run for the next election, or at least vote. But don't criticize them publically until you at least talk to them about stuff. They don't get paid. During my two years on the board, I spent over $2,000 out of my pocket to do the things I needed to do. One of the reasons I got off was because I was tired of being ripped all the time. Because no matter what decision you make, someone is ticked off and will tear your head off. It makes it hard to get quality people to do something like this when your reward is getting a bunch of crap dumped on you all the time with very little positive feedback in return. This is a perfect example of "what do they do". People have been complaining about the spam they get from leaving guest book entries for over a year, they finally figure out a way to give them members a way to do this that will hopefully eliminate the spam, and they get ripped for this. People on the West Coast were tired of having to fly across the country to attend reunions, so they plan one on the west coast this year. Well people who live on the other side now are mad because they have to fly across the country. Can anyone tell me why anyone would want the job when this is what you get in return for all the time you donate to do it? Lets all just mellow out a little bit and let them do their job. If you have an idea or concern, talk to them first. Or better yet, run for election this year and get to enjoy all the benefits and perks of being an unpaid volunteer board member. No pay, no insurance, no vacation, no reimbursement for expenses, and no retirement plan. But other than that, its a great deal.

I just saw the posting about the "Members Only" section from Kevin Colson and I was wondering: 1) What purpose will having a "members only" section serve and 2)Why weren't current members queried and given a chance to voice their input on this change? Personally I think this move is "divisive" and "elitist" and will only serve to drive a wedge between members and non-members. I think the Association's Board of Directors has failed to consider that there are a lot of veterans of the 3AD out there that are proud of their service and proud of this site, but for whatever reason may not be financially able to become a "member" of the Association. Veteran's of the 3AD have toiled, sweat, given their blood, and in some instances given their life for their country, but to have a select few on a Board of Director's panel decree that they are somehow not worthy to access the same data on this site, because they can't/won't pay a membership fee (after all the association is supposed to be "not for profit")is unjust and not conducive to esprit de corps. If the "members only" section is indeed implemented I will not be re-newing my members
