I was at Co. B 3rd. Battalion 36th. Inf. THE ROCK from1964-67. I have a copy of the 3rd.Armored Division 25th. Anniversary yearbook with aforeword by Maj.Gen. Walter T Kerwin Jr. It has agreat history of the division and some fantastic pictures. It also covers operation Silver Talon.

My father, Lee, has been deceased since 1972 but if anyone remembers him I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. I recall he mentioned landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and I know he received a ring with the word Westwall on it. He was part of a tank crew and was wounded so I'm not sure when exactly he was sent home.

Went through basic with C Co., then to A Co. then went overseas on the Upshure in spring 56, to Friedberg. I remember our briefing after arriving at Ray Barracks. My recollection of it was "You're here to stop the Russians when they attack, we expect you to hold them for three days, until re-enforcements arrive. Welcome to Germany. Have a Good Time !" Yeah, right !! Learned to ride motorcycles there, and help form the Knob Knights motorcycle club with Sonny Owens, Don Shoemaker, Bob "Lucky" Howard, and many other fine friends.

Went on to serve in Vietnam and retired in 1976 as a CWO Helicopter Pilot.

Don't know what the most recent designation of my unit might have been. When I joined it, it was the 122d Ordinance Bn, later became 122d Maintenance Bn, when I left, it was 3rd Armored Maintenance Bn. Headquarters & Company A on Fliegerhorst Kaserne.

Arrived Dec 1961 Francois Kaserne Hanau - 36th Med Bn, later transferred to the 3AD Band 1962 at Drake then Edwards Kaserne. I visited the area as a civilian 1988, 1998 and 1999. Francois Kaserne is well maintained, however, Drake and Edwards are in bad shape. I send some photos to the webmaster taken in 1998, maybe they will appear soon. I retire (again) in 2004, I may live in Frankfurt for a few months each year, I speak fluent German, having had a German wife. I would like to hear from any 3AD Band members.

I hope none of my fellow soldiers from the 23rd confuse me with the Berry from the 36th Inf. He must not have left the barracks during his tour. I for one am very proud of my service with the 3AD. The threat that we faced was very real. Does anyone remember when they blocked the Autobahn? I do, both times. Life was not easy for the engineers. It was either cold, wet, and usually muddy. Graf was nasty as was Hoenfels. I love it all. So to the other Richard Berry, think about what you said and apologize to the rest of us who served with pride. Thanks to all who served and kept us free!

I was really disappointed when the 3rd A.D. was deactivated. Our proud divisions history and lineage appeared to have disappeared in to the dark mists of military history. I had served there with great pride and was proud to consider myself a life-time 3rd A.D. soldier, and fortunate to have served in one of the finest Armored Divisions in the U.S. Army, and the world. It is wonderful to find a site dedicated to our Divisions achievements and fine soldiers, regardless of their tour of service.

I served with 45th Med. 3AD from 1981-1983, and also served in Frankfurt at the TMC there at, if I remember correctly, Drake Kaserne. I attended the Nijmegan Marches in 1982 and was sent to Heidelberg for Medical Proficiency Training where I shared the Honor Graduate Award with a Medic from another unit(we shared identical scores!). From 3AD, I was sent to 4/12th Air Cav, in sunny Fort Polk, Louisianna, where I served as the Clearing Platoon Procurement and Medical Supply Specialist. I could aquire, con, beg or trade for anything!!! I am now a civilian working for the Veteran's Administration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician and I also work in a civilian hospital as a Certified Respiratory Therapist. Good, hard 3AD discipline has served me well!!!

I did not list a unit because i was not in the Army,but nevertheless i worked at Ray Barracks (local national).Many may remember me,I worked in the Bowling Alley until it closed for renovation and then was transferred to work at the Officers Club as head Cashier for dining room.On occasions i waitressed in the dining room and at dining ins.In the Bowling alley I worked nights and served quite a few customers their "Licher's" and took care of the Bowling leagues.Even though i was under "burn out status" on many occassions,I have fond memories of those days---sure would like to hear from anyone that remembers ---.Oh and in case anyone wonders---YES ---i am married to Ramon (Yogi) who is also listed in this guestbook.He was in the Army and was in the 1/36 Inf.at Ray Barracks.

I was a member of the 92nd MP Co that was OPCON'd to 2nd Bde, 3AD during the Gulf War. 2nd Bde (Iron Bde) was the first to make contact with the Republican Guard during a dusk to dawn battle in Feb 91. Intelligence gathered from EPW's by my Kuwaiti interpreter held us in place and 3rd Bde then flanked and destroyed the remaining Iraqi armor that were dug in. Not being an Armor Div troop is was a rather harrowing experience to see all of the destruction that was left in our path from that battle.

I was in the Signal platoon (MOS 31C) for HHC 1ST BDE. Worked in the BDE HQ with Maj Richards, SFC Dunlop, SSG Richardson, SSG Wilson. Anyone remember these people? Please email at above address if you do. I ETS'd in May '90. I miss Kirchgoens and Butzbach. I do not, however, miss running around "The Rock" for PT, ha ha. I heard they moved everyone to Hohenfels, or Graffenwoer. Anyone know about this? Anyone know MSG Sheldon Kluck? He should be a SGM by now. If I am not mistaken, he was headed to the SGM academy in 1989. Anyone remembering me and wishing to get in touch, please do so. For you 31C's from that time, I always ended my transmissions with KKK HOSER KKK. I remember a Louisiana native being in the 143rd that saved my but when Division NCS kicked me off the net one night for being a butthead. I would triple key my transmitter and he would reply in kind, and I'd send my traffic using his call signs. I LOVED IT. NOBODY CAUGHT ON TO THAT...HA HA HA

just got back from germany. during my stay in Frankfurt I went by where the main post exchange used to be. now there is going to be the Hessian state Police Beueau (Polizei Praesidium) The monster building that housed V Corps HQ's (Abrams Building) now back to the old german name IG Farben. It is being totally restored by the Germans and turned into a university. Went up to Butzbach to check out Schloss kaserne. Now it is known as Schloss Park. All of the barracks have been torn down except for old Service Battery building and the Schloss itself. Those are of historical importance. The building that housed Bn HQ's (Puzzle Palace) has been renovated. The annex has also been restored. The kaserne is to be turned into a residential park with townhouses. The center of town is now a pedestrian mall emanating from the square out onto all of the streets that lead to it. Very pleasant place.

Again, I’m trying (through this excellent page) to located Steve Greenwood serving in the 3AD stationed at the Gibbs barracks, Frankfurt in the year 1966-69. There must be someone out there, which can give me some help!

- Which units of the 3AD were stationed at the Gibbs barracks in that time period and where is they located in the States? Any name of high ranking officers which can be of any help?

- Any idea where I can start looking for more details about Steve Greenwood (Social Security No., Personal No. etc.)

Very interesting site. My uncle Sgt. Lloyd W McCoy from Iowa, joined the 36th AIR in 1942. I have his original yearbook? from basic training. He was wounded twice from what i'm told and was then KIA on February 28th 1945. I was told that he was possibly killed while held up in a house for the night when he or someone else was cleaning a weapon. I also have one of his dogtags, purple heart and a picture/postcard with his photo on it that he sent my aunt from England. Sure wish i knew more about him. i also would like to obtain service records etc. for my dad who my uncle raised. My brother commanded tank companies at Camp Polk & made major in Feb 1942-he served overseas; remained an army officer-served in Korea-retired in 1962 with rank of colonel. He lived in Lake Waukomis, Mo. until he died in 1970. He is buried at Ft. Levenworth National Cemetery in Kansas. If any of you knew Bob, I would like any information about his service that you remember. He earned a bronze star; but so did many of you. Thanks for any info.

I first arrived to 3AD assigned to D-2/32 AR in 1988. In 1989, after being appointed a WO1, I was reassigned to the DISCOM as the Property Book Team Chief for 1st and 3rd Bde. During deployment to Desert Shield/Storm, I went forward with 2nd Bde. I was the last PBO in the Division and was charged with deactivating 3AD.

On December 26th 1944 a tank fell down a bridge in Hesperange (Hesperingen) near the maintown Luxemburg (Luxemburg/Europe) and three of the US - soldiers inside were killed. Only the driver and the MP-man survived. As we know from the archives it could have been the 3rd Armored Division coming from France to enter the battle of Bulge. As we don't have any information about the persons who were killed, the town-government of Hesperange is looking for any information about the accident of the tank driving to the french frontier. Where can I get informations (such as official reports, after battle reports, pictures or the names of the three victims) ? The local government of Hesperange would like to erect a monument to honour those soldiers and our association would like to publish an article about that accident (we have two eye-witness-reports and pictures) in a book about Hesperange (Luxemburg)at the beginning of 2001. Who can help me even if it's only for a hint ???

I was in bco 122d maintenance at fliegerhorst, in Hanau, Germany from Nov. 71 to Nov. 75. When I first got there It was Hq/A company an then in late 72 or early 73 in changed unit designation to b. company. I would like to locate an SSG, Jack Goddard and SSG. James freeman. Does any out remember SSG Wesley Bray commonly known as POP. He ran the snack Bar that we had that was upstairs by the motor pool office in the shop. It is with great sadness that I must tell of the passing of Darrell D. Moore former Plt (CSC 3/36 Inf.) and First Sgt(I belive one of the companies in 2/33). Darrell was retired from the Army and worked for the PX system in Giessen. He was due to retire in sixteen days. He was a great platoon sargent and respected by all those who served with him. Looking to hear from the men at the end of the road who worked 7 days a week at the Univac 1004 site under CWO Stavenesly. Sgt Pluff Detroit, R Stroud AR, Small CA, Olson CA, Fletcher GA, M.Kalina OH, D.Chase V IN, S Travonovitch OH , Harris? and anyone I forgot. Still have my SeaCaps Mug and I can't remember what the anchronym stands for. Other than the routine of the unit my first day reporting in, there were two armed guards on the flower pots at the barracks front. The CO wife donated two flower pots and some of the boys returning from the club smashed them. It made the "Oversea's Weekly" I would like someone who remembered the name of "Top" from this time, he put me on guard duty at the ammo dump on my 21st birthday. Since I worked 3rd shift it used to drive him crazy that I could sleep in and not make formation. Remember the second CO Lt.Aquilarra calling us "My Little Tigers"? My buddy "Frosty Mathieu" would always mimic him and paid the price when he caught him drinking the night before the IG inspection.

I regret to inform you that SP4 Dennis Mathieu Chicago, IL passed away Oct. 1981.

As one of thousands of draftees in Aug '55 I was assigned for Basic and Advanced Basic to Ft. Knox, Co D, 33rd Tnk Bn. In May '56 our unit left by train to Brooklyn Army Terminal. After 5-6 days at sea we arrived at Bremerhaven, boarded a troop train and ended up at Gelnhausen. Our brand-new M-48 tanks were waiting for us. At least once or twice a month we had an alert in the early morning hours and moved with the tanks into our alert area in the Langenselbold woods, usually bringing the rush-hour traffic on the roads outside of Gelnhausen to a near standstill. Twice a year we went to Vilseck (Grafenwoehr) for 4-6 weeks of maneuvers and tank firing. As an avid photographer, I still have hundreds of b/w and color shots of that period. From 1957 till my return to the US in Jan '60, and on special duty as a UP (Unit Police), I ran the small civilian pass control shack near the PX-gate. I was born in Kassel, Germany and immigrated to Nebraska at age 18 in '51. Going back to Germany in US uniform or seeing the country from the tank turret were quite interesting experiences. I met a German girl in Gelnhausen who has been my wife now for more than 42 years. We go to Germany every year. If you haven't been there for many years, you wouldn't recognize it. Hardly any US military presence there anymore. And Gelnhausen is quite built up and, it seems, one third of all people in the streets are non-Germans. Scouts Out!!!!!! I was pretty disappointed in not seeing any entries from 4-8 Cav. To start off, I would like to say how nice it is to see so many 3AD veterans commenting about their history!! I started with the unit 3-33 Armor. (Pickles) We then renamed the unit 4-8 Cav. Went to Desert Storm with, in my book, the best damn Scout Platoon in the military. Most people don't remember the name PFC Fisher who was the driver on my Bradley. He, while searching bunkers ran into a very bad blister agent which turned out to turn our unit upside down. I am currently a disabled veteran from injuries directly related to hard times in the military.
