I found your site while searching the web for information on a PVT. Max Wine. He served during WW2 with 23rd Engineering Battalion, I found a note from him to his wife dated April 28th 1945 in the palm grips of a P-08 Luger I added to my collection. I was curious if anybody knew his story or had a picture of him.

Service: | Years: | Unit: | Company, Battery or Troop: | Other: | Comment: Dear Sir,
On March 29th 1945 MG Rose, the commander of the 3rd armored division, was killed in action during the Battle of Paderborn. On March30th I was able to experience an advance of a smaller unit, the task force Welborn, towards Paderborn.
Are there any records or details of this advance towards the hamlet of Busch. Did any veterans write about it? What about the official history of the division?
Sincerely, Gerhard Duesterhaus
