Cpt. Runnels Sgt. Orange [radio repair] Lt. Lemon [radio repair] Sgt. Tony Lavelle [radio repair] Dan Zittel York,PA- My Homie All T —– Broan? Doc "WhirleyBird" -Sorry about the Graf incident

Looking for anyone I was with over there. Some memories:

Tent city over Xmas while barracks remodelled. Racing VW's on the back 40. Craxy Sexy in Frankfurt. Rat Rig to Graf w/o windshield or heater. Site 5 guard duty- Hanau? Downing boots of beer. Old Top "Whats the confusion in the gutters?" Short-timer Wheels Guy that was ripped off by a German girl- money sent to her to go to states. She kept $ and stiffed him.

I wish I would have kept the names of some of my fellow troops.I have fond memories of my time there.

Looking for old friends from Brigade HQ from 1976-1978, and scout platoon members from 1978 & 1979. Lou Doubravo left an entry last year, still waiting to hear from others.

Pre-ordered my General Rose print this week from the website store. I have another print in my office done in the evolution of cavalry to armor that people who stop in constantly look at and ask questions about. Can't wait to put this one up as well. I encourage all of you to consider getting one who can afford it. Its a great way to preserve and teach the history of the division to others who never heard of us and what we did.

A few of you may remember me, when you first came into the Division HQ and went throught the replacement detachment, from '88 until '90, I was a cadre there during this time, with SGT Meyer, Baradat, Harper, Paige, and, a few others that names have faded from the faces that I can still see. later re-assigned to 533rd MI BN (LRSD) D Co. as well as SGT Meyer. During Desert Storm the LRSD was attached to HHT 4/7 cav, , after the war we came back to Germany and Inactivated in '91. would like to hear from anyone who still remember me whether from the Replacement Detachment or the LRSD, Walker, Trimble, Rhett, Petts, Meyer, Ward and Holley. Some great times and very fond memories that I will never forget. the last that I heard of Holley he was with the Ranger BN at Ft Benning. Shoot me an e-mail…

My name is Jim Lowman and live in Mississippi. My Father was in the 3rd Armored in world war two. I did not get to know my Father and would like to know more about him. His name was Jack Jacob Lowman and he worked on tanks. He had a piston rod blowen through him when working on a sherman tank. He was from Forest City Iowa, his wife was Pat Lowman from the same town. I have a picture of him and does anyone remember him or can help me find someone that can. He died here in the USA in 1963. My e-mail address is jim_lowman@yahoo.com

Harris was my team partner and we got the win with the m60 in 1971.I went back to visit the "Rock" IN 1986 and took the wife with me, some changes but the "Rock" will always be the "Rock".I located Larry Overstreet he was the old mans driver Lt.Col.T-Berg.I wonder what ever happened to Capt.Fredrick?

I was one of the medics that came from 1/68 AR in Wildflecken to Mainz. I was an HHC Medic, an E-5 at the time. PFC Cox and PFC Haymaker were the two medics on my track. I am currently a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Sam Houston, I am a SFC at the present time. PFC Cox is still on active duty, a SSG. PFC Haymaker I believe passed away a few years ago from an unspecified illness. I have a question concerning the Combat Medical Badge, were we or any medics assigned to the Division awarded the badge? If we were could you e-mail me with information? My e-mail addresses are: Edgar.Wurster2@amedd.army.mil or ed_wurster@yahoo.com

The more comments you leave about Magu, the more in his demented mind he will think he is accomplishing something by doing what he is doing. Just ignore him, and eventually he will tire of the game and move on. And remember, when you get the e-mails from some person in a foreign country asking for your bank account number so he can transfer millions of dollars to you, it is just him. Delete it with all the lower member enlargement ads you get.

I was assigned as Battalion Chaplain to 2/6 FA, and attached up to DivArty as Deputy DivArty Chaplain. I was also assigned to Hanau South Military Sub-Community as Fund Custodian of the Chaplain Non-Appropriated Fund, and served as Pastor of the Protestant Chapel Service at Francois Chapel. My rank was CPT. Chaplain (MAJ) Virgil Knipp was DivArty Chaplain.

I served from Jul 86 through Aug 87. I was compassionately reassigned to WRAMC in Washington, DC due to the illness of my father.

I would like to thank all the men i served with in the gulf war.Cpt. Schweitzer was hard but a fair man.We played hard and fought and worked even harder.(I remember the day over there the enter company got in to it that started with you being pulled out of your track by the mant.men then that after noon during chow we got them back.1SG Waters being pulled around by a rope. The xo well we know what happened there.)But when it was work time it was work time.I know you were proud of us but now looking back i must say thank you. You had to be soldier, leader, father, brother and friend to all of us. With out some of that rough housing out there life —well lets just say thank you Sir.You made us strong ,tough, smart and a family for that time in history .So to you and all the men of the 12th 33rd and the 3Ad i thank you for letting me be a part of that close family.I have learned alot in life to this point but not as much as i did in that short but long time with that great group of men, and Amercia's greatest fighting soldiers. Thank you Larry Peckham <driver for 2lt wakelyn D company (GOD BLESS AMERICA AND IT'S FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN)

Where are there orders or something in writing that would show what we are eligible for? I would appreciate some info.

Sorry about the double entry on the guest registry but I failed to enter "C Troop" on my first attempt. I have several reels of super 8 movies of Budingen which were taken in the late 60's and a couple of vhs tapes (shot in 1992) of Budingen and Grafenwohr should anyone be interested. I wanted to get the movies copied to vhs tapes but I failed to do so and now they may be to brittle to attempt it. Like many others, I have some photos from the 60's as well. Unfortunately, half of my photos have been "lost" because one of my albums disappeared several years ago. I am not sure but there may be some connection between its contents (old girlfriends) and my wife.

Although there were some days I did not particular care for being in the Cav, my feelings have made a 180 degree turn for now I often look back on those days as some of the best of my life – especially the last 12 to 14 months.

Thanks to all who have served and to those who are currently serving their country.

I was stationed in Butzbach in 1977, even though I really don't remember some of the names of the officers that I had served under. But the one I do remember the most was 2nd Lt. Leipold. He was more of one of the guys than that of an officer. He used to hang out with us at most of the clubs just outside the front gate. One that comes to mind was the Vegas Club that was less than 50 yards away. Most of the guys went there, but there were a couple of others that we hung out at like the VFW and a gausthaus. Both of those were on the other side of the main square just to the right and down the alley. I fell in love with that town and the people that were in it. My two best friends were McKinley Williams and his brother Leon Chaney. Those two guys I trusted with my life and both would cover my back if trouble came my way. I broke my right hand playing softball at the field just east of the billets that I stayed in. And there was a little building that was a little bit bigger than an outhouse. There they made pomfritz and brats (served on a hardroll) and we would take them down to the motorpool when we had to go and knew we were going to be ther for a long time with the howitzers. If given a chance I would like to go there again to see what they did to the place after the demolition. I know that it isn't the same and you really can't go back, but in my mind it is the same beautiful castle as when I was there. Spearhead all the way.

Wow. I can't believe that Sgt. Borts and I are still the only ones from HHC 3-36 (1976-1979 period) that have logged onto this site. Where's all my fellow "Dunning's Raiders"? Where's all the guys that used to make the regular trips up to Marburg to hang out with our girlfriends at Happy Jack's? Where's Whitlock, Higgenbotham, Moose, Kuchta, and the rest of you fools? Man, what a great time in my life. Partying in Marburg till 4AM and barely making the last train back to Butzbach, and walking from there back to The Rock, getting there just in time for first call. Getting drunk in the beer hall and then drag racing APCs on the tank trails at Hohenfels without getting caught. How the hell did we survive some of the stuff we did? Great memories though. Just 19, got off the plane in a strange country, and soon fell in love with Ilona Moennig from Wetzlar. Had the eyes of an angel. Then she broke my heart. Thought I was in love again with Julie fom Marburg, enough to get married before I left. Bad, bad idea. I should have known it wasn't right when I ended up in bed with Ilona again the night before my wedding. Whoa! Despite too much beer, too much smoke, and too much sex, we were still the best at what we did when the time came to do the job we were there to do. Well, hope to see an entry here soon from one of my ol' fellow Raiders. Can you still sing the song? Do you still have your shirt? I can, and I do.

I looked at every guest entry listed. Steve Zink ,I remember you ! You went home on leave and got married and brough her back with you. Besides that Bill Wainscott and I are sill in contact with each other. He's told me of seeing you a couple times.Gary Anderson, If your the same SGT. Anderson that was a TC in 2nd Plt. Co.B 1st Bn 32 Ar Ive got some pictures of you. When I first arrived I was assigned to 2nd Plt, but was transferd to Hq Plt and became the Co's driver,Stephen T Haines . Billie Wainscott was the 1sgt's driver,Connley was his last name. I also drove for Ltc Kelly for a short time while I finished High School. We had good times and bad, like those move out alerts at 02:00 to the F.T.A. those letters had two meanings back then. There was snother time I'll never forget, one night a guy named George Gittichel from Chicago came in the Barracks and asked me if he could borrow my Sgt stripes. Seems he met some German girl up at the EM club & she only dated Sergents. I gave him a set and then I left for the Rod &Gun Club. When I returned later that night there was a line of guys from Sp/5 Collins room 1/2 way down the bay.The next day 1st Connley was pissedshe was in our AO and got her out of the area. After that I heard she went over to Charley Co. They had their time with her also. A few months later we were rail loading down at Graf. when someone showed me an Easey Riders Mag. he got @the PX ,one of the guys from Charley sent in a letter to Merraculos Motha about long trains and signed Charley Co APO09074. true story it would never happen now! We were also the 1st Copany in europe to get the M60A2 tanks. My tank was B-50 it was the tank Pres.Ford climbed on up @ KG when he visited. Well thats enough from me.If anybody remembers me send me an E-mail . I'll scan some pictures and submit later. SSG.Steven Listman US Army Retired, 9-30-97

I'm especially looking for SPC Dan Miller who was assigned to 2nd platoon. If anyone has information on him that might help me find him or have any info where he was last heard from please e-mail me. And that goes for anyone else who was assigned over there the sametime, would love too here from you.

My father served in the HHC, 3rd Bn, 36th Inf. Reg. during WWII (landed at Omaha and fought in the Battle of the Bulge) 1944-45. I am looking to find him a unit crest (DEEDS – NOT WORDS). Any help would be great. Thanks to all veterans who have served before me and paved the way for us currently serving. God bless America. Sarge

Some of my most vivid memories of the time I spent in the army are those spent in the 3rd Armored Division. I honestly believe that I could still drive to Graf or Hohenfels without a map to this day. I think that between myself, MAJ Stamillio, MAJ Miltenberger and LTC MacPherson we should have gotten frequent flyer miles for those trips.

In the previous guest book i am listed as in Supply co. I was in Charlie Company 45th Medical Battalion. Charlie company supported the 3rd Armoured brigade which included Tankers and Infantry + other support. My Co at the time was Capt. James Moore. I actually got out between Christmas and New Years 66. I may be wrong but I think the unit slogan was " Best By Test"

Great web site. Congratulations. Served with the Pickles from 74-77 with Mortar Platoon, S3 shop, XO in A Company and Commanded B CO. Whatever they say in the Buffalo Soldiers I found that 95 per cent of the troops in the battalion were fundamentally good people who did what they were asked an more. I grew up as a soldier and a human at the Kirchgons and closed the place as the last Brigade Commander to fly his flag at the Rock. I will never forget it or the soldiers with whom I serve. In fact I saw my mortar platoon medic just today. Good kid then and a good man now. Greg

Does anyone out there remember Alabamas? If so let me know what ever happened to that shack. God I think I can still smell the old beer and wiskey on the floor.

I did not serve in the military, unless you count my 19 years as an Army brat! My father served 32 years in the U.S. Army, served in WWII, Korea, and two tours of Vietnam. His name was MSgt Verl Glen Coons. Also, someone very dear to me, Rodger Bailey, served in Vietnam. So today I am visiting to thank all of you veterans who gave so much and still continue to give. God Bless you all.

Cover-up Or Incompetence? SSG David Coates

Right after the cease fire I was tasked to take five trucks to Saudi Arabia to scrounge up some needed supplies for the battalion. I had a pretty detailed list and was given a week or so to get what I could. I always looked forward to going to the rear, especially when Captain Joe Kime was the convoy commander. He was "the man". He never micromanaged but was always there if you needed help or advice. He knew his stuff and being a former Marine like myself, we got along great. The day we gathered all of the brigade trucks to go, Captain Kime briefed us, gave me a hug and asked me what I was shopping for. I told him that I needed some cots and showers and possibly some latrines. He, being the officer and a gentleman that he was, informed me that he knew where some cots were but he couldn't be involved in securing them because they belonged to someone else. I, being the good Supply SGT that I was, told him that I would get any cots he needed along with my cots, no questions asked. You have to understand our need for cots, we were living in the desert and when you sleep on the ground you get unwanted visits by cobras and such. We usually had to steal the quality of life stuff, which was no problem. Whenever we tried to get showers, tents and cots, some rear echelon support soldier would turn us down. They would use excuses like; you have to be in a front line unit or we are saving the cots and tents for EPW or refugees. We usually had some Iraqi money I purchased along the way or some Iraqi TA-50 with us as trading material. I would find some lower echelon that had what we needed and make a trade. I always got the supplies my unit requested. Colonel Nash would occasionaly give me a short list of stuff some other unit needed and couldn't get. He knew I could and would do what it took to get what was needed. I never could understand why our American fighting men had to come last, even behind the enemy when it came to support.

We left the "Ready First" area for Saudi Arabia after Captain Kime checked the route with division (I don't know for a fact who he checked with). We didn't have any maps and only the two HUMVEES had radios. We proceeded towards Kuwait at a pretty fast pace, another reason why I loved being around Captain Kime. We came upon a road leading to the Kuwait border, we slowed down and proceeded to traverse this road. The road had trenches and concertina/barbed wire leading away on two sides of the road, these were former Iraqi defensive positions. We saw a few signs that warned of mines. This told us that we would not be deviating from this road. We were moving along pretty slow when the convoy came to a stop. Nothing to worry about, when convoying in the desert you stop for lots of reasons. Well, the reason we stopped was not routine. Captain Kimes HUMVEE had run over a piece of ordnance. I didn't know why we had stopped until someone yelled for a medic. I had a medic with me, I can't remember his name, he came running passed my truck towards the front of the convoy. Myself and SSG Hobbs followed, what we saw was Captain Kime laying on the ground, bleeding. A piece of shrapnel had gone through his vehicles battery box, pierced his right buttock and exited through his stomach and finally leaving through the windshield of his vehicle. I stopped about twenty feet away, I think I was in shock. Here was my most favorite officer in the world bleeding into the desert floor. My medic was holding Joe's intestines in his hands and trying to stop the bleeding. Captain Kimes driver, SFC Earl was beside himself with grief. I couldn't take anymore of the carnage so I went to the back of the convoy where an engineer CAPTAIN (name unknown) was talking to a medivac. He of course didn't have a map but was giving some good directions from some land marks he remembered. I think this man deserves a medal. While we were waiting for help a couple scout choppers from the West Virginia National Guard flew over. These people were so professional, the LTC in charge left one bird in the air and proceeded to land on the road to access the situation. His chopper was too small to haul casualties, but he and his wingman had GPS and radioed our position. A Blackhawk flying by with a surgeon dropped in and offered assistance. I can't remember what chopper took Captain Kime and SFC Earl, but they were air lifted out pretty quickly, I think a huey medivac did make an appearance. SFC Earl was in shock and needed medical attention. My medic was an SPC and really tried to help Joe. If I had made sure that my medic had an aid bag with him maybe Captain Kime would be alive today. After the choppers left the engineer captain took charge of our little sad group and we donned our flak vests and helmets and walked our trucks out of this sad place. I can remember when I walked over the blood stain and the hole the explosive made in the road a feeling of great sadness, there were no more explosive devices on the road. If Joe's HUMVEE had been a little to one side he would have been out of danger. The explosive that killed Joe was the last one on the road. We did finally make it to Saudi Arabia and got the stuff we needed. We didn't know that Joe had died on the operating table until we got back to our unit.

I blame myself for not making sure this medic had an aid bag. I made the fatal assumption that a medic always traveled fully equipped. Stupid of me, I will live with the guilt of not being able to help my friend when he needed me most.

What you need to know about the 3/5 CAV Medical section is pretty bad. We had a Second Lieutenant for our PA who in my opinion didn't care about troops. A good troop had died before the ground war, SPC Swano. I knew Swano from Echo, 3/5 CAV and can tell you the kid was top notch. What I know about his death is pretty second hand. I talked to most of his Mortar Platoon about what went on and here it is. SPC Swano had an intestinal bug or something, the PA kept giving Swano stuff for diarrhea. Swano never showed any improvement, I saw him just before he died and he was a sallow color and had lost a lot of weight. He also was very listless. He had to be carried to the latrine, at night he usually couldn't make the short walk to the latrine. I won't sully his memory by going into much more detail, I will say that his squad loved and respected him or they wouldn't have carried him when he needed help and they exempted him from all duties. When Swano died he had been carried to a latrine and started choking on his vomit. The two guys who had carried him to the latrine grabbed him and ran him to the aid station. When they arrived at the aid station some 100 yards away, the PA didn't seem to share in their distress. He had them put Swano in the M577 extension where an examining room had been set up. Of course they forgot to light the place, they rolled up the canvas sides before working on Swano. When it was determined that the 3/5 CAV aid station couldn't help Swano someone tried to radio for a medivac. One thing you need before asking for medivac is the location of the patient. These medics didn't know the grid coordinates of their own location. I think you get the picture here. SPC Swano died that day.

I had a run in with this PA at Tactical Assembly Area Camelot. During the two day trip to the TAA my feet were wet and I developed what I think was immersion foot. I went to the aid station when my feet were so red and painful that I couldn't walk in my combat boots, my feet didn't even fit in my boots. I asked the medic in charge if I could wear my tennis shoes for a few days and possibly lay out for a few days so my feet could heal. After hearing me explain what condition my feet were in, the PA told me I needed to put my boots back on and to suck it up and drive on. He never once asked to look at my feet. I can tell you that I came pretty close to committing murder that day. I was lucky because we didn't really have a lot to do and I did stay in my cot as long as I could until my feet did heal. The skin peeled off of the entire bottom of both of my feet. My boss, SFC Johnson also had problems with this PA, SFC Johnson would wake up covered with blood. He had a kidney problem and was pissing blood. My favorite PA kept telling SFC Johnson he did not have a problem. I insisted on driving to a support battalion field hospital and having SFC Johnson looked at by a doctor who gave a damn. Needless to say, this trip got SFC Johnson back in tip top shape.

I had a few run ins with this PA at the "Rock". I had back problems and the most he would do for me was give me Motrin and send me on my way. He would never get me x-rayed or refer me to a specialist, even when his NCOIC, SSG Muniz asked him to refer me. I am retired now and have since received a 40% disability rating from the VA for my feet and back.

If someone had taken the PA out of 3/5 CAV, Swano might still be alive. I can't say for sure if the missing aid bag would have saved Captain Kime but I sure wished it had been available. I have visited Joe Kime at his final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery. A very sad place.

I have tried to list the facts as I remember them. Please keep in mind that these events happened ten years ago. I did interview a lot of people back then but never wrote anything down. I can remember SSG Hobbs was a TC on one of my trucks.

David Coates SSgt (ret) USA

I thought I would share this essay with my fellow veterans since today is my birthday and the day before veterans day. I realize people die in wars, I just wish there was more accountability in the military when it comes to higher-ups screwing up. I chose not to supply my email address because I am sick of spam and this mugu idiot.

Been a while since I have been on here. Have heard from Blaine Peterson. We served together on the Rock with the Red Lions and tented together during Desert Storm. He was a PFC in the wheels mechanic section of the Red Lions and is now a Captain. Wow! I have to put a plug in for my book, "Faraway Thunder: A Journey through Army Life & the Gulf War" which is available on this site in the store. 3AD Alumni Association bought a bunch from me to sell here on the site, so I have to give it a plug so they can sell some of them. If you served on the "Rock" or were in Desert Storm with the division you will find some good recollections of the Rock and descriptions of getting to Dahrain, travelling to KKMC and on up to the Border of Iraq, then of my and my unit(4-32 Armor Red Lions) as we went into Iraq and battled the Tawakalna Republican Guard Division. Also a lot about after the war and taking care of the refugees in and around Safwan. A little bit from the book about the Rock: "Within four months I was in a place called Kirch-Gons, West Germany. I was assigned to a unit in the 3rd Armored Division and stationed at a placed called the Rock, right outside Kirch-Gons. The Rock was exactly what its name implied. It sat on a hilltop surrounded by open German countryside. Its reputation held it as one of the toughest tours in Germany. When I arrived and people told me just how bad a place the Rock was, I figured it poetic justice. The army found the toughest place in Germany to send me just to see if I could hack it. Units at the Rock go to the field a lot. Some spend six or more months per year training in the woods or the mud. The battalion I was assigned to went to the field on average about four months per year … My unit was the 4th Battalion, 32nd Armored Regiment, of the 3rd Armored Division; nicknamed the Red Lions. Our uncompromising motto was "Victory or Death." We were a tank unit. As time passed I found this particular tank unit had a pretty good reputation. In 1988 our Abrams tanks shot the highest score ever recorded for a unit at gunnery training. We had the most advanced tanks and equipment in the army: the M1A1 Abrams tank; the Bradley fighting vehicle; and a bunch of those funny looking new jeeps called humvees. I guess when you put it all together, the equipment and our performance in training, we were, at that time, the best tank unit in the army. Probably the best tank unit in any army. Our mission was to protect a huge pass in western Germany called the Fulda Gap. The Fulda Gap had been the chosen invasion route into that part of western Europe all through ancient and modern history. If the Russians were to attack West Germany they would surely come through the Fulda Gap…" Great hearing from people in the unit. Drop me a line.

The best damn medical section in the division, soldiers like; Kevin Sarrett, Kenneth Cummings, Paul Cummings, Robert Thompson, James Carr, Smitty "Dog", Bullock, Simpson, and many others, we worked under the superb command of "PT Joe" Cpt Joseph Galkowski, hardest commander of a Headquarters and Headquarters Company you'ld ever like to meet. I was never as proud of a unit as I was of the Medical Section of the 23rd Engineer Battalion. Best Damn Medics anywhere.

Just searching net and found this. You have a link for all members who served with 2/3FA the gunners during Desert Storm. I would like to reach whoever compiled that list so I may contact some old friends.

I was stationed at Kirchgoens "Rock" and in 1969 our M113 squad won the live fire event at Graf. We won a black patch that probably had the crossed cannons and 3rd AD logo. Does anyone have a picture of the patch that they could share. Or any information on what it was exactly. I know we beat out all of the infantry mechanized M-113 squads and also the French and the British were there. It was one of those things to be proud of that you just kind of lose track of over time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone! I was stationed at Kirchgoens "Rock" boy they sure nicknamed that place right. We went to graf 2 maybe more times. I need some help on a patch that we won at the war games. We had a mechanized M113 sqaud that fired everthing M-79, 50 caliber, rifles as we went down range live fire. Long story short we took it all in 1969 for that event and got the black patch wear on our shirt pockets. Does anyone remember what this patch looked like or have a picture of it? Please let me know.

I have not sent a guest book entry for awhile. I actually gave up on finding some old B-509th. chums from '56 to '58 and D-73rd. from '58 to '59. Can anyone remember Capt. Dick, Cook (Spc) Williams from North Wilkesboro, NC, SFC Loden, 1/Sgt. Harvey, PFC Harrold Silvers (I'm wondering if he might have died in 'Nam), PFC George McClellan (he transferred from B-Battery to C in 1957), PFC Norman Lane.I'm in the Louisville, Ky phone book. Man, just to chat with some of these men again. Some confusion continues about the 509th. and 2/73. The 73rd. did not exist in Germany before 1958, so names associated with that unusual battalion before 1958 should not be.I say "unusual" because, in 1955 the bn. had SP 155's,at Fort Knox, then, in Germany it had SP-155's and later, SP-8 inchers. When the bn. became the 73rd. FA, it had these weapons as well as the 762mm Honest John rocket. The Soviet Military Mission based in Frankfurt was doing its damndest to get info. on the outfit, which had full atomic capabilities (which it did, of course, from frauleins in Hanau and Germans and DP's working on Pioneer). I know abou the atomic stuff, for I was one of the D-73rd. GI's who was detailed to hump the (at least part) atomic arsenal from an unknown depot to the basement of D-73rd. sometime in 1958. Anyone remember that? And does anyone remember that all KP help (Germans, DP's)employed by the bn. had to go? One of the KP people working for B-509th., was named "Joe." He was supposed to have been a DP from Poland. He was a real nice guy (are not all spies?). "Joe" worked in the B-battery mess hall, then was let go when the outfit became D-battery of the 2/73rd. He was seen (dressed much better than he had been as a KP)coming out of a bar (possibly the Dolly Bar), on Kaiserstrass in Frankfurt, by George McClellan and myself on a Saturday in 1957 0r 1958. I'm convinced the "nice" guy was a spy, and had gained employment with the 509th.to ply his trade for the East Germans. B/509 and D/73rd. occupied the same old barracks, and was next to the barracks that housed C-Battery of the 509th…in a building across the street, about half-way between C and B batteries was the tailor shop, near it was the post chapel. I remember that kaserne and Hanau better than I do my own hometown in northwestern N.C. Just trying to point out a few things.M.M.

John Ivory, now there is a name out of the past, this is HI-FI, I was in 5th plt., you were in 2 plt. w/Dave(Gabby)Dalton. Dave, Mick Meyer, Johnny Johnson and I were all in AIT together at Fort Knox 1972 thru Jan 1973. We shipped over to the Rock Feb 1973, in the middle of winter weather. I remember driving up in the bus to 1st BDE HQ Bldg, a couple feet of snow, so foggy you could not even see the building, and about 30 degrees temp. We were assigned to C Co. 2/32 the barracks right next to BN HQ's, & the Messhall. We had the 2nd floor, as I recall there were 2 big barrack bays one at each end of the bldg, I was in the one near the parade field. Lets see in our bay there was Mitchell Hill, Pete Looker, Dave(Greyhound)Gray, Ron Johnson, Tom Wisner, Dave(Roach)Weisner, John Fowler, Pee Wee, Spacey, ……..there alot more but can't recall all of them. Combat Support was on the 3rd floor, that was a rowdy bunch of guys, 1st flr was all the Sgt's Qtrs and armory, Capt's office, supply Sgt's room. Well enough of that, I haven't seen Dave post on here before, I first posted on here about 2-3 yrs ago, Dave. Mick, Johnson, and I hooked up after our ETS 1975 and kept in contact for about 5-6 yrs, Dave & Mick both worked at the Post Office the last time I heard and Dave got Married 1979-80, and last time I heard was living out in the Inland Empire area I think. Well, I have to get back to work, maybe Dave will check this site out someday. Happy Halloween HI-FI

I did not know there was a website about pioneer Kaserne, I was thrilled to see it and read about it. It does not look like I remember, are there any recent pictures of it? Does anybody know if the 56th RPSC which was in the 8th Maint. BN, 3rd Coscom, V corps even still exists. I left just before Desert Storm.

I lived on the top floor above the Italian restaraunt across from the Kaserne that had the 9 inch guns then the MLRS. I used to walk across Lamboy onto the kaserne to do my Laundry. Always bought my export beer fro the Italian guys at the restaraunt, anyone remember those guys? Cheers!

Hello,

My name is Joe Somolik, a dsiabled RVN veteran. I am doing some research and can beenefit from your help if possible.

Can you provide me with any information about the Combat Tanker/Cavalry Badge from unit history/records? Was it awarded and later denied by Gen Marshall/Bradley? Was it always unofficial?

Is there anyone I can talk to who can guide with this research?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Joe Somolik

I served with Battery B and then with personnel. It was my first assignment in the Army and I went on to make the Army a career and retired as a CSM in January 1985. My time with B Btry, 2/27th FA was the best assignment I had in the Army.

Great site. It sure brought back alot of good memories. I was stationed in Freidbery, Germany at Ray Babbacks from 1967-1968. If anyone remembers I broke my wrist, while training at Graf. After that they found out I could type with one hard so they assigned me to our company's maintance section, taking care of the log books. I was promoted to the rank of SGT. in 1968. My platoon Sgt was Sgt Broman. Does anyone know where he is today? He was the best damn Sgt that I served under!I am very proud to have served in the 3RD Armored Division.

I sent an e-mail a while back to add my name unde C CO. and you probably didn't get it. I also identified the driver for CPT (LTC) Turner and also gave a couple names that are missing from C 3/5 but there also still missing. I sent a picture of a few of us in the desert and they are not posted. I just wanted to check and see if they got lost in the e-mail. I could try to send them back if need to be. Thank you.

Awesome site!! I was stationed at Hutier Kaserne, Service Battery/HHB Maintenance trying to find anyone who was there and went to the sand box. I visited Hanau earlier this year and it brought back alot of old memories, still pretty much looks the same as it did 12 yrs ago.

WAS STATIONED AT DRAKE-EDWARDS KASERNE IN BONNA-MAIZE(FRANKFURT). MOTOR POOL SGT. GOT TO EXPERIENCE THE FIRST LEBANON CRISIS. WENT FULL RED ALERT TO FULDA FOR 3 WEEKS. GREW UP A LOT DURING THOSE 3 WEEKS. RUSSIAN TROOPS A MILE AWAY WITH 13000 TANKS. WE HAD ABOUT 2500. OUR CAPTAIN SAID WE WERE TO HOLD THEM TILL HELP CAME. WE DIDN'T NEED HELP, HE JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS: The new log-in id and password for the members only portion of the web site has been emailed to all of you using the email address in our records. I have had more than three dozen bounced messages. I know some of these are because you have not kept your email address current with the Association; you must do this since this is our primary means of communicating with the membership. Send email address changes to me at secretary@3ad.org. Please do not just post them in the guestbook as they may be missed there.

Another reason for bounced email messages is spam blocking software that you may be using. I try to send mass email in blocks of about 50 addresses. This sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't depending on how busy the servers are. That many addresses in a message will often cause the blocking of the message as spam. Therefore, I always attempt to send the message again as a single addressee, which is very time consuming and doesn't always work either.

If you are not hearing from the Association (especially newsletters and member log-in information), please make sure we have your current and correct email address. If we do, review your spam blocking settings and consider if you want these messages to get through or not. If you don't understand how your particular spam blocking works, review whatever it is your using and adjust accordingly to your wishes. Some of you who have email managed through an IT (such as if you get your email through your work) may want to check with your system administrators about their spam blocking settings and rules.

Personally, I do not use any blocking schemes. My delete finger can work pretty fast, and I feel that this is a small price to pay for being accessible even to people I don't expect to be contacted by. Many people using spam blockers set them so that they receive mail only from the people they have added to their address book or some similar setting. If you are hoping to hear from that friend from you 3d Armored Division days and you are set up like this; sorry, you are not going to get that message. We all agree that SPAM is a major aggravation, but think about this when you are setting your blockers.

If you have not received the new log-in information in this past week, send me an email request and we will send it back to you in a reply.

We are working hard to stay in touch with you! Your Association Secretary. Daryl

Hi, I am looking for an old friend. He used to be stationd for the US Military in Hanau (Germany) back in 1990/1992 (I am not sure but I think he was stationed in Hutier Kaserne or something like that). His name is Nick (Nicolas) Aguilar and he should be around 34/35 years of age by now. He also went to the Gulfwar back then. If there is anyone who knows him or regognize this, please drop me an email! I would like to know how he is doing.
