122d Support Battalion (Main)

On Christmas Day, December 25, 1990, the 122d Support Battalion (Main) deployed for Operation Desert Shield from its home Kasernen in the 3d Armored Division area and embarked from Frankfurt, Germany.  The 122d debarked in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia at "0 dark 30" on December 26th and moved to the Port of Dammam, Saudi Arabia to prepare to receive equipment. Selected soldiers from the 122d proceeded to the Port of Jubail, Saudi Arabia to assist in equipment off-loading. After receiving their equipment, the 122d began deploying from the ports to Tactical Assembly Area (TAA) Henry on January 5, 1991. The 122d completed deployment to TAA Henry a few days later on January, 12, 1991 and set up Direct Support (DS) Operations for the 3d Armored Division on Main Supply Route Green. The TACFIRE and FIREFINDER Repair Section from Charlie Company was co-located with 3d Armored Division Artillery. In early February 1991, the Warehouse Operations from Alpha and Charlie Companies, and the attached Test, Measurement, Diagnostic, Equipment (TMDE) Calibration Team were relocated to Log Base Echo (LBE). The remainder of the 122d(-) deployed from TAA Henry to Forward Assembly Area (FAA) Butts a few days later on February 16, 1991, and continued to provide DS level support through "tailgate support". The 122d(-) moved forward into Iraq with the division on February 24, 1991 and reached Objective Collins on February 25, 1991. In early March, 1991, the 122d(-) then proceeded to "Camp Spearhead" located in Kuwait. The 122d(-) provided Direct Support Operations at "Camp Spearhead" and supported the Safwan, Iraq Refugee Center until May 9, 1991, when the 122d(-) moved to Redeployment Assembly Area (RAA) Rose, Saudi Arabia. The Warehouse Operations and TMDE Team at LBE rejoined the 122d at this time. The 122d redeployed to Germany from King Khalid Military City, Saudi Arabia on May 23-24, 1991. The 122d Support Battalion (Main) deactivated on December 15, 1991 at Fliegerhorst Kaserne, Hanau, Germany.
